[MlMt] Resend-Help with a script to create an event from an email
Folks, I'm very new to MailMate and not a programmer, plus while I thought I sent this to the list before, I've seen it come through, so trying again. I'd like to replicate some of the workflow that I had in Apple Mail. One in particular is the ability to create an event directly from an email. I understand that auto-identification of dates in email messages may not be possible yet in mailmate, but if I select an email, has anyone created a script to create an ical event that would be opened by the default calendar app (mine is BusyCal)? Thanks! Rob ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com http://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
Re: [MlMt] Resend-Help with a script to create an event from an email
The approach taken by Apple Mail is when a date is identified, the event is created with the name of the event = to the email subject, and the url slot in an event is populated with a url to the mail file. I think it also takes the first sentence or something like that from the email and puts it into the notes section (could be wrong on that). Apple mail does some nice parsing of the date info, looking for time too and if no time is found, makes it an "all day" event. To start, it can take the selected email and allow a user to specify a standard parsing of text -> date/time [12/6/14, 10:15 becomes December 6, 2014 at 10:15 am for the default time of 30 min or so?]. If the user selects text, that can be assumed to be fed into a date/time parser? Is there some sort of standard syntax from text to event? Launchbar uses this http://www.obdev.at/resources/launchbar/help/index.php?chapter=WorkingWithCalendars On 6 Dec 2013, at 2:16, Benny Kjær Nielsen wrote: On 6 Dec 2013, at 9:01, Torsten Grust wrote: I too use BusyCal and would love to create calendar entries from with MailMate. However, as fas as I can tell (I do hope somebody proves me wrong), BusyCal does not have an AppleScript dictionary, effectively rendering it non-scriptable. That's a siginifcant obstacle to a tight integration with MailMate (with any other application, for that matter). Busycal has an alternative to using AppleScript based on a custom URL scheme (similar to what is often done on iOS and what MailMate does for the `mailto:` URL scheme): https://support.busymac.com/blog/23829-busycal-url-handler This can actually be a good thing since it's probably faster than using AppleScript when launching a command from within MailMate. Now, I'm not sure exactly how you want this to work, but it's certainly possible to create a command which based on the currently selected message (or selected text in the message) can create an event in BusyCal/iCal/Fantastical (3 more bundles to be created). The main problem, of course, is to convert text to event data. I could perhaps implement a feature where MailMate can be told to analyze the message (or selected text) with the data detectors in Mac OS X (10.7+) before calling the external script. This could help find dates, addresses, and phone numbers I believe. [MlMt] Markdown list help please
MM Newb here… HTML markup is not my forte but I can't seem to get Markdown to do what I think it should. I assume that bulleted list and numbered lists should look indented and such, but I'm not seeing that at all, in fact I don't see anything different in the rendered view than I do in the edit pane. Same issue using Brett Terpstra's [Markdown Service Tools](http://brettterpstra.com/projects/markdown-service-tools/). For example, I thought * this should be a bulleted list * and at the same level ** this should be next level indent I thought 1. and this should be a numbered list 2. and so on 2.1 to indent a level I tried # hash sign ## but that is doing headings… And here is Terpstra's markdown service attempt for bullets (I select then apply the service) * bullet one * two * indent And numbers 1. number 1 2. number 2 3. number 2.1 But I'm getting all sorts of weird things, or nothing. [MlMt] Extra signature added to message
I'm having an interesting thing happen. BTW, I run with Markdown as my default. When I create a new message and I'm in a smart folder or other general area, it seems that MM assumes the message will be from my most common account, and puts that signature into the message. But then when I type in a recipient MM puts another signature in the message, above the first. If I change the sending account, it does the same thing, adding an extra signature from that different account, above the original "default". Any ideas? Ok - I've added the same tags to the other install and looked at the activity log and I DO see PERMANETFLAGS with my list coming across. And, when I add a new tag to a message, it shows up in the other install. What is interesting is that the old tags that I have defined are not showing up as linked to the existing email in the new install. In fact, I can add a new instance (of a tag) to a message that has "missing" tags and only the new tag instance appears on the email when displayed on the new install. This means that the first install has two tags on a message, while the new install only has the new one. So there appears to be some sort of temporal issue as to when tags are recognized. Re: [MlMt] Stuck in "rebuild DB" loop
Benny, No replies from me in the middle of the night ;-) MM is now back. First the re-build loop: * Yes, I do have rules enabled so that may have been part of the issue. * In my case the error dialog would appear noting an email that could not be found and at the same time the database corruption dialog would appear. They seemed to be independent activities because the DB re-build could be launched and run with the error dialog still up. * When I tried to clear the error dialog, I would get a SBOD that required a Force Quit of MM. * When I eventually looked at the message folders that corresponded to the error, the message ID was not in the folder. Not sure if that meant the emails had been "removed" or what. Interestingly, as I kept re-trying to get out of the loop, the message ID in the error would change. * Now that I have apparently solved the problem by re-downloading from the server, I see that the message folder has the set of messages I saw just before using the re-download approach and then additional messages that have IDs with much higher (say ~2x) numbers. So it did re-download messages that apparently "disappeared". * Since I didn't look at the email library until after trying the cache method of rebuilding, it seems using the cache process must have done something that resulted in messages disappearing? As for the original crash, as I noted, this happened when I was adding a third email address to the To line and the potential list of acceptable addresses was partially off-screen, essentially onto my other monitor. I'm not saying the multi-monitor issue was involved because I have had MM crash adding additional addresses to the To list a few times in the past week, like Roland. He might be correct that this is when the additional address (3rd seems right) causes it to add a line. None of the issues you've listed for known DB corruption are in play so this is a new situation. But what was unique was that I had had the crash occur a couple of times and no corruption until the last one with the off-screen situation, but that could be unrelated. I do use DropBox but it's not backing up my Library or Applications. No evidence of a time machine issue but I didn't look to see if it was running. No antivirus software. I'll update to your next version. Rob McClure sharkez at g On 15 Apr 2014, at 1:16, Benny Kjær Nielsen wrote: On 14 Apr 2014, at 22:30, Robert McClure wrote: Sorry about the late response. I can see you could have used it earlier on. You'll get a detailed answer instead. MM crashed earlier (one of a couple of crashes when adding an addressee to the to list) and is now stuck in a loop where it identifies a message it can’t find (I think initially the draft I was working on, but now I’m not sure) and the option of “do nothing” or do a rebuild (two flavors). I first tried the “from cache” rebuild because I wanted the draft, but that has led to a “find the error” dialog along with a “rebuild” dialog that no matter what, finishes the rebuild and then finds an error. I recently (last week) experienced this myself (I did not have any or did not understand reports sent to me about this). For me, the problem was that during the rebuild, rules are still active. This is of course not desirable and it was actually a good thing that the result was a broken rebuild-process. Do you have any rules configured? I fixed the bug and then noticed that rebuilding has become extremely slow (not because of the rules). I have seen reports about this, but I had assumed users were just impatient :-) I fixed a performance issue which should make it quite a bit faster (although more improvements could be done). Here is a [direct link](http://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/MailMate_r4174.tbz) to the most recent test version. Is there a way to get out of this? I have not allowed “download all messages” because I have ~40K messages that is apparently over 3G. I have multiple accounts but this seems to be all related to that one account and draft... I am of course very interested in the steps needed to reproduce a bug that leads to database corruption. For the record, known database corruption triggers are: * The database files were restored from a backup which was created at the same time as MailMate was writing a set of files. There is probably no way to fix that without a complete redesign. * Antivirus software puts a file (email) into quarantine (removing the file just after MailMate saved it). Some comments on that [here](http://freron.lighthouseapp.com/projects/58672/tickets/666-crash-shortly-after-startup#ticket-666-27). * I've had a few reports about hard crashes (as in pulling the plug of the computer) triggering database corruption. Technically (and embarrassingly), I'm not sure exactly what happens, but I assume it is related to low level behavior of the file

But when you update MM and the release note window appears along with the application window, they both seem to open on the currently active desktop (not where the application was before). In my case it switched monitors (therefore desktops). I moved the main app screen back to the "other" monitor, not knowing the release note was left behind. When I saw that it was on the window list, I switched to it, but it would disappear every time I tried to click on it, and would only stay visible if I moved the main application back to the same monitor - thereby making that monitor the "active" monitor/desktop while accessing the release note window. Simply showing them as folders isn't enough for folks who active use Gmail. Once I make a gmail label a tag I lose it it as a folder on the left however. So its hard to quickly see all emails with a given tag (which is something a Gmail user is pretty used to). I've tried working around this with smart folder submailboxes on Tags/Keywords, but it seems to be showing "Raw Flags" as described in ticket 374<http://freron.lighthouseapp.com/projects/58672-mailmate/tickets/374-Column-for-Showing-Tags-Keywords#ticket-374-3>. That unfortunately doesn't do the job since I get submailboxes like "@0, \Flagged" and "$NotJunk, @0, \Answered, \Flagged, \Seen" (@0 is my gmail label name). It's slightly better if you use the virtual `Tags` header instead of `Tags/Keywords`, but it'll only work well if you have at most 1 tag per message. This is because submailboxes cannot handle multi-value headers yet. This is almost only a problem for flags/tags and recipient headers, but those are of course important problems. Is there anything I can do to work around this? I was thinking I could perhaps try changing the submailbox format name from ${#flags.flag}", but even if I can get that to narrow it down just to the label name it won't handle the case of multiple labels on the same message. Yes, so currently your only alternative is to manually create smart mailboxes for each tag. On the plus side I answered your question in the [ticket system](http://freron.lighthouseapp.com/projects/58672/tickets/374) about how to manually add a (hardcoded) “Tags” column. Other users might find that interesting as well. -- Benny ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com http://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate { columns = { attachments = { formatting = { doubleClick = { mailboxSelection = "ALL_BODY_PARTS"; queryFormatting = { formatString = "#parent-body-part = ${#body-part-id} and ((content-type.type exists and content-type.type != text and content-type.type != multipart) or content-disposition.type = attachment)"; separator = " or "; }; setFormatting = { string = "ALL_BODY_PARTS"; }; titleFormatting = { formatString = "Attachments from ${from.name:${from.address}}"; separator = " or "; }; }; matchQuery = hasAttachments; string = AttachmentTemplate; }; matchQueries = { hasAttachments = "#attachments-count != '0'"; }; maximumWidth = 16; menuTitle = Attachments; minimumWidth = 16; sortAsInteger = 1; sortKey = "#attachments-count"; titleImage = HeaderAttachment; type = image; }; date = { formatting = { children = ( { formatString = "${#date-received}"; maximumValue = 1; onlyIfCollapsed = 1; }, { doubleClick = { queryFormatting = { escapeSingleQuotes = 1; formatString = "#date-received.day = '${#date-received.day}'"; separator = " or "; }; titleFormatting = { formatString = "\U201c${#date-received.day}\U201d"; prefixString = "Date is "; separator = " or ";
[MlMt] Missing recipient in sent emails
Sorry if this is discussed elsewhere, but for some reason all sent emails (all accounts) older than two days ago have no recipient information. Any idea what could have caused this and how I can fix it? Rob McClure sharkez at g ___ mailmate mailing list mailmate@lists.freron.com http://lists.freron.com/listinfo/mailmate
