Finding highlighted text in Safari with quick notes and VoiceOver
Hello, I’m getting around to exploring the new quick notes feature in Monterey. One feature is to highlight text on a web page in safari. Once a quick note is created, only the link to the site appears in the note. To get to the highlighted text, one hits the link, the page opens, and the highlighted text appears on the page. I can’t figure out a way for VoiceOver to find the highlighted text. Does anyone know how to do this? Brett -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. Re: Another Dictation Breakthrough
Hello Mark, This news is good to hear, yet perplexing. I installed Air Dictate on my phone, along with the software for my Mac earlier today. I found the iPhone app to be unresponsive with VoiceOver. I couldn't activate the prompt to connect my phone with the Mac. With VoiceOver off, sighted assistance performed the connection instantly. Following the connection, I activated VoiceOver again. As I felt around the screen, it sounded like a keyboard was present, but my borrowed eyes said there was not a keyboard present. I managed to find the mic button, and completed one dictation. After that, the mic button was allusive, and when I managed to come across it, it was unresponsive. Please share how you found success with this app. I've contacted the dev, and they opened a ticket. They said perhaps it can be made VO accessible in the future. Thanks, Brett C. On Dec 23, 2011, at 10:05 PM, M. Seeking enlightenment in regards to iTunes equalizer
Hello, I've noticed that a few list members use DJ apps etc. I'm hoping someone can provide tips tweaking the equalizer settings in iTunes. I recognize listening preferences is entirely individual, so I'm asking that someone explain what each setting changes in the sound. I count a total of 11 boxes to adjust settings. VoiceOver only reads a number along with hertz. Can anyone explain what each box changes in the music or a DVS movie audio track? Re: iDisk not in sync? Need help please.
Hello Jenny, I think I have an answer for you. Go to Mobile Me in your system preferences. Select the sync tab, and look for advanced, and select it. You will see a list of your computers syncing with Mobile Me, and a place to select a percentage of data change to be alerted to. Following that you'll see a Reset Sync History… button. Select this button. You will be presented with the options of replacing On this computer with sync info from MobileMe., or Replace All Sync Info on MobileMe with sync information from this computer. If everything is how you want it to be on your Mac, I suggest replacing Mobile Me data with the data on your Mac. It may take a while. Unfortunately, I've found the bluetooth devices often don't like to play with other devices when they are paired with another. This is often, but not always true. Re: viewing suggestions in spell checker
I apologize if this is common knowledge. I just thought I'd mention that I like to use the command, shift, semi colin. This brings up a full dialogue that works quickly for me. VO will highlight the first misspelled word and you VO down arrow twice to see the suggestions table. Hit enter on the desired suggestion. I've experienced that sometimes the suggestions table has the word ready to hit enter on, and other times I have to interact with the table. Exploring the spell check dialogue, one will find ignore and learn. The learn button will add your chosen spelling to the dictionary. You can hit escape anytime to exit spell check. If you are presented with a misspelled word that you're unsure of, hitting escape will land the VO cursor at that word in your document., so you can edit from that point. This spell check feature is available most anywhere there is an edit box, Text Edit, Mail, Safari etc. Nothing new here, just thought I'd elaborate in case someone reading this is new to the feature. Re: Exercising and iPod
It's the strangest thing. I also couldn't find it in a search, so I googled it and found a direct link to it through a couple of reviews. The links brought up a message in the iTunes store saying the app is currently not available in the U.S. store. My uneducated guess is that the developer is about to submit an update. It really is great, and an update just came out a week or so ago. The developer has been quite mindful of VoiceOver. I'm guessing it will show up soon. iTreadmill:Pedometer Ultra w/ PocketStep Brett C. Numbers, jumping to start or end of columns and rows

Using iChat with facebook Chat
Do you know that it's possible to use iChat for facebook chat? I didn't. Below is a link leading to instructions for setting it up. It's quite simple, and it works. In case you're a little slow on the draw like myself, when the instruction in step 4 tells you to enter your user account name, it is not the email address used to log in, if that's the method you use. You need to have created your facebook user name. For example my user name is brettc3. I don't recall whether the user name is created in settings or profile. The user name makes it easier for people that know it, to go to your page directly via URL. Anyway, if Adium isn't your thing, here is another option. http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=7626 Brett C. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Latest iTunes
Josh and all, Are any of you using the Genius Mixes feature? I'm not talking about selecting a song and instructing iTunes to create a playlist. I'm talking about the feature that enables iTunes to automatically create various playlists for you based on your library and it's online data base. When I select the Genius Mixes in the source list, and VO right, nothing is read by VoiceOver. The behavior is the same as we experienced with the applications source list prior to the previous update. I have confirmed with sighted assistance that the Genius Mixes playlists are indeed there, and apparently they're quite beautiful to look at. Anyway, my borrowed eyes confirmed the situation is the same of the previously mentioned applications source list. I'd be thrilled to hear that it's working for you. Either way, please let me know. Re: Battery status
You can navigate to this area in two ways that I'm aware of. You can either use the VoiceOver command VO M, pressing the M twice while holding down the control and option keys. The other is a Mac command, control F8. Use VO plus arrow keys to find what you're looking for. Brett C. Trying new Echofon twitter for Mac, I can't read tweets.
Is anyone on the list trying the newly released Echofon for Mac? It seems quite accessible with VoiceOver, with the slight exception that the tweets aren't being read. I'm wondering if my tweets aren't being downloaded for some reason, or if VoiceOver can't read them. If someone else has taken this twitter client for a spin, I'd be interested in hearing about your experience. Re: A mobile Me question
Yes, it is a service. When you purchase from the Apple site, or Amazon, you are sent a code in the mail. When you receive the code, you enter it on your mobile me account. I don't know why it's less expensive on amazon, but I have purchased it myself with success. You can also get the $69 price with select purchases through Apple. Re: Can a mini be connected to a TV and work with VoiceOver?
As I stated earlier, I'm a novice when it comes to cables. My early research shows that one can purchase a mini DVI to HDMI cable. For the sighted people in the household, the HDMI is supposed to provide better picture quality over the VGA connection. Rumors state that future Macs will move to HDMI, which will enable one to transfer picture and sound through one cable. Brett C. What are the monitor connections on Mac mini and Mac Book Pro?
What are the monitor connections on the Mac mini purchased March 09, and the Mac Book Pro purchased July 09? I thought they both have mini DVI, but the mini DVI to DVI connector that came with the Mac mini doesn't fit in any of the slots on the Mac Book Pro. I'm determining if I need to purchase separate accessories to connect them to a TV via HDMI. Thanks. Re: Slow Mac Mini
I submitted an almost identical post a few weeks ago. Krister's Suggestion is the ticket. My mini is brand new with 4 gb of ram. I connected a monitor and every little trouble, especially the busy disappeared. I understand being reluctant to connect a monitor, but based on my recent experience, you'll be amazed with the difference. I didn't try just using the adapter, it may work, but the monitor changes everything for sure. Bluetooth trouble
Mac bluetooth is not detecting bluetooth devices when using voiceover. When I use the setup a new device with voiceover, it just states searching, zero found. I thought the bluetooth hardware must be faulty. My sighted assistant used the mouse, and my devices with bluetooth immediately appeared in the list. My sighted assistant tried this with voiceover running and shut down, using the mouse both ways. Either way, the devices appeared. I tried again, using my voiceover commands, and again no devices were detected. We confirmed this behavior on two identical Mac Books. Has anyone else experienced this behavior and is there a cure? Is there a Safari work around?
Hello good people, I teach at a community college. I communicate with my students through an internet platform from Sunguard higher education called mypage, which includes mymail. I use the mymail to email my students. I'm having a problem that seems strange to me when I try to send messages on my Mac. I am able to get to the point where I select the students to be emailed, and then when I press the button to move on to compose etc. I get the message "access denied". I performed the task on a PC with no problem, so the issue isn't my account. I confirmed the problem on three different Macs. I contacted the school's tech support, and they suggested the problem is with Safari. They recommended I try another browser. I am quite new to Mac and VoiceOver, so I'm hoping for thoughts from our Mac community. If it is Safari, are there any settings I can change? If I do need to use another browser, is there one that works with our beloved VoiceOver? With the exception of not being able to work proficiently with spreadsheets yet, this is my only obstacle keeping me from being free of PC thus far. Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Two questions of little significance
The first question I have is related to the ticking sound one can hear when VO is focussed on the progress indicator during a download. Somehow the ticking has stopped on my Mac, and I like it, and I want it back. I explored System Preferences Sounds, but don't see anything relating to specific events. Does anyone know how to activate the download ticking sound? My second question relates to VO actually reading the download progress indicator. I always simply VO right back and forth to hear the data. Well, the other day I pressed some key and the percentage was spoken while remaining in the same place. I thought, cool, I'll have to remember this. Now I can't reproduce it. Does anyone know a key combo to press to read a progress indicator without moving back and forth? I know these questions belong at the very bottom of a priority list, but the list is here so I'm asking. Thanks for the incredible information the list members have provided to me thus far, both in questions I've asked and reading others posts. Excellent, VO A is just the ticket to read the progress. I believe the download ticking is a Mac sound. I hear it on my wife's MacBook and she does not use VoiceOver. Wow, that sounds like time consuming work. Re: address book with email
First open the Address application. Next, if you haven't already, go to the create new group button and select it. Give your group a name and create it. Next go to the group table and select all, then move to the Name table. Here you will find every name you have added to your address book. Find the name you want to add to the group and copy with command C. Go back to the group table and select the group you want to add the contact to. Navigate back to the Name table and paste the contact card with command V. If you know how to select items in a list that aren't consecutive with VO, your task will go much faster. I haven't mastered this task as of yet, so I repeat the process one at a time. To email the group is quite simple. Create your email message and in whichever address field you like, you simply have to type the name of the desired group. You can interact with the address field to confirm the addresses have been added. Good luck. Brett On Jun 18, 2009, at 10:11 AM, Maxwell Ivey Jr. wrote: > > Hi Group; Now, I'm stuck.
