Albums and I Cloud and I Cloud Match

2013-01-25 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello.

I'd like to ask a question about I cloud. I wish to know is there a limit on
how many albums you can download? also, depending on how many albums you
downloaded, would this impact on your I Cloud Match quota? as you get 25
thousand sonGs if I remember rightly from the Apple events.

Kawal.

Re: Changin Text Color in a Document

2013-01-25 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland

Anne,

One thing that I have actually needed to do a few times which is slightly
different from what Harry's trying to do is to change the background! color,
not the text color. Apple is telling me in Pages there really is no easy
way to do this. They said the only way really is to insert a shape, say, a
rectangle, then fill it with a certain color shading. Then, type within
that rectangular box that you shaded. The only issue is, they said if you
start typing, that box won't stretch automatically to fill your text. So
say your box is only 40 characters long horizontally left to right, by say,
5 characters virtically going down. So, if you run outside the marginal
bounderies of that box, it won't stretch to compensate. You'd literally,
they say, have to then take the mouse, grab one of the little handles of the
box, and drag/stretch it to fit around the text. Is there a more easier way
to go about doing this that maybe they're missing?

Hello Chris,

Actually, it is just the same in Pages, and in every other text editing
application I've used. Cmd-Shift-c opens the colour palettes.

Re: Changing Text Color in a Document

2013-01-25 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
oh, ok, so, apparently, without the command key, just doing vo+home takes
you to the top visibly of the current window, where if you do the command
you described with the command key as well in place, that actually takes you
to the top of the window, even if it's not visible. So, in other words, say
you had a text area and you were interacting with it, now, this probably is
a bad example... actually, probably a very! bad example, but it proves my
point. Provided that you were not just in the text area, but also were
interacting with it, which normally! you'd not have to do with text boxes,
although sometimes, it can be necessary, if you was then to hit vo+home say,
while you were about 2 literal print pages down in the box, you may only
jump half way to the top of that text box area window. where if you hit
vo+command!+home, it would jump you literally to the very very top. The
reason it wouldn't do that without the home key in this senareo, cheesy as
it is, is because, well... think about it a minute. If you're two pages
down in that area, then obviously, the top of that window is visually gonna
be scrolled upwards off the screen to make room for the text below it. So,
without the command key, it's only gonna take you to the top of the window
that visually is showing. Again, that's one heck of a bad example, I know,
seeing that you could just normally do command+up arrow, or command+down
arrow to move to the very end, but, again, I'm trying to make a point
here... LOL! Give me a break, it's early in the morning, and I'm also kind
of sick, so I'm probably not thinking totally logically. Heheheheh.
Suffice it to say, I hope that at least somewhat helps.

Sorry, got a little off subject. I used to just do ctrl, cmd, option home,
but that made the mac go busy. What exactly is that command for? I know
that ctrl-option-shift-home or end is quicker and better, was just cupios
about what the other one does.

Re: Filling in tables in the docx format.

2013-01-25 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Anne.

Thank you for your suggestion.

It was exactly the way I thought of doing it, but I could not find out how to
setup numbers, I can create a new document.

But how can I add the table?

I simply open the table in pages as the first step, when I mark the table, how
do I get it pasted in numbers.

The reason why I am bringing this up, is that here in Denmark, it is 1 of the
main reasons not to recommend mac. It makes me a little sad, because mac can do
so much, and it is so fun to work with mac as I experience it.

Best regards Annie.

Re: Filling in tables in the docx format.

2013-01-25 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Annie,

To copy a table from Pages to Numbers, open a blank spreadsheet in Numbers,
select the table in Pages (VO will just report a highlighted space but Cmd-c
will copy the table), then paste the item into the blank spreadsheet.

Once the information has been entered, select the portion of the table you wish
to copy back into Pages and copy it to the clipboard. In Pages, paste the table
into the space it came from.

You can use the Convert table to text menu item to check that everything has
been copied correctly then use Cmd-z to undo that action.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Albums and I Cloud and I Cloud Match

2013-01-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The 25,000 limit only refers to those songs in your iTunes Match that were not
purchased by you from the iTunes Store. So, if you are purchasing these albums
from the iTunes Store yourself, then you can purchase as many as you wish and
it will not count towards the songs in the 25,000 limit. If these albums are
acquired in some other manner, then it is not the number of albums but is the
number of songs within each album that will count towards you limit.

curser and selection problems, any ideas?

2013-01-25 Thread William Windels
Hello,

I discover sometimes very strange problems with osx 10.8.2 on my recent macbook
air 11 inch):

Because of a strange reason, I can't navigate anymore in textedit while
quicknav is off. When I put it on, I can navigate again an also when I put it
back off after some seconds, I can navigate again.
Can this be a bug?

also, perhaps related to it: when I am on a middle of a line in textedit and I
want to select to the beginning of the line, sometimes voiceover says or shows
nothing in my braille display about the selection.
But when I do command+x, the part that should be selected, is gone.
So, it was selected but I didn't know it.

Some idea's?

kind regards,
William Iwndels

adding folder to favorites bar in Mail?

2013-01-25 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
How do I add a new folder I made to the favorites bar? I made a filter in gMail
so all apple-related items can skip the inbox and go right into this new label,
and of course the new label made a new folder on my imap-enabled devices that
use my gMail account. I would like to set this up so I can just hit cmd-2 to
access it, but the context menu for the folder shows nothing about the
favorites bar. I know I'm missing something simple, but what? Thanks.

It's kind of hit or miss with mountain lion. But what you do is. High
light the folder you want to put in favorites, hit command coma to drag it,
stop interacting with the mailbox list, Go to your favorites bar, interact
with it, go just to the left of the mailbox where you want it, then hit
command period to drop it. Like I said, with mountain lion it's sketchy,
sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In lion this feature was
flawless! Good luck..

Re: adding folder to favorites bar in Mail?

2013-01-25 Thread Alex Hall
Thanks. That didn't work, but you gave me an idea to try something you
sometimes have to use in Xcode. Here's what did work:
1. Move vo to the folder you want to move, then route the mouse to it with
vo-cmd-f5.
2. Disable cursor tracking with vo-shift-f3 (remember to add function if your
machine requires it).
3. Press vo-shift-cmd-space to lock down the mouse button.
4. Move to your favorites bar and go to where you want your folder, then route
the mouse there with vo-cmd-f5.
5. Release the mouse button with another press of vo-shift-cmd-space and the
folder should go where you want it to. Remember to re-enable cursor tracking
once you are done (vo-shift-f3).

odd thing with gMail filters and apple mail…

2013-01-25 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
So, I have my Apple filter working nicely; gMail filters apple-related messages
and sends them to the apple label, and I can see them in the apple folder on my
mac's mail client. Now, here's the problem: messages I send, not just ones I
receive, are appearing in the apple folder and I don't know why. Google has
nothing on the subject, so I'm at a loss. Does anyone happen to know why sent
messages are being put into this folder and, more importantly, how I can fix
this? Thanks.

Have a great day,

Wavepad questions

2013-01-25 Thread Marc Rocheleau
Hey all,

Is anyone else out there using wavepad for the mac? I used to use it
on the PC and read somewhere that it is accessible. I downloaded and
started fiddling around with it this morning -- while its
accessibility is pretty good, there are a couple of things I can't
figure out.

How do I save a file under a different format? When I go to save my
file, it sets it as a wav file by default and I can't figure out how
to change that.

Also, when saving as a wav file, how do you make it so you can
customize the encoder settings? I know there's a pop-up menu and
"auto" is selected. I bring it up and go to custom but then it doesn't
let me leave the menu... or if it does, it goes back to auto as the
selection. If I hit return on it, it will close and just bring me back
to the main window without saving.

Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks!

-Marc

Hi,

Rather than copy the table to Numbers, You can go to the inspector and select
rap. Then, in the object placement section choose floating.

When you do that, the table can be seen by Voiceover in the layout area. You
can interact with it as you would any other table.

Once the information has been entered, select the portion of the table you wish
to copy back into Pages and copy it to the clipboard. In Pages, paste the table
into the space it came from.

You can use the Convert table to text menu item to check that everything has
been copied correctly then use Cmd-z to undo that action.

Re: Filling in tables in the docx format.

Hi Anne,

what happened to me was after copying back the table from Numbers to Pages not
all of the text in a cell was still visible. A sighted person told me he
couldn't read all the content what he could see in the Numbers cell. So it
seems to me that Pages doesn't break the lines automatically in this case in a
table. Does this fit to your experiences?

All the best

how to exclude sent messages from gMail filters

2013-01-25 Thread Alex Hall
Okay, my test didn't come back to me, but another message from the list did, so
I think I can call this a success!

I have a gMail account, and part of what's so great about gMail is filtering.
This is basically a powerful message rules system, but it is web-based, so your
rules are applied to your mail on any imap-enabled client, such as your mac or
iPhone. I set up a filter to tell any messages from MacVisionaries,
Accessible-iOS, or accessibil...@apple.com to go to my "apple" label. Of
course, that label caused a new 'apple" folder to be created on my mac, which I
added to my favorites bar so I can quickly access it with cmd-2. So, now I can
read my inbox with cmd-1, and then read my apple stuff with cmd-2, a very nice
setup.

The problem, though, was that messages I sent were appearing in the apple
folder, which I don't like (I realize some people prefer this, but it annoys me
to no end). After much searching, I found the answer, and it was so simple I
can't believe I didn't think of it. As you create a filter, you are asked for
the matching criteria for a message (who it is from or to, if it contains or
does not contain some text, if it has an attachment, and so on). All you have
to do is enter "-me" (that's a dash, then the word me with no spaces before it)
into the "from" field. Just as in the rest of gMail, the dash is the negation
operator, and "me" is automatically set to your email address. So, "-me" in the
from field is basically saying "any message from anyone who is not me". This
seems to filter out any of my sent messages while leaving everything else
intact. I'm now going to set up other filters so I can strip my inbox back to
messages only from low-traffic mailing lists and people not on lists at all.

Re: batch convert pdf to html?

2013-01-25 Thread -

In terminal one can use the pdftotext program found at:

http://www.bluem.net/en/mac/packages/

The command to convert to html is:

pdftotext file.pdf -htmlmeta

The converted file has a html extension. The original files are retained
as pdf.

This can be put in a script with a loop to convert all pdf files in a
directory.

evernote on iPhone

2013-01-25 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi
I just installed Evernote on my iphone. Do other people find the keyboard makes
the bong bong noise as you type each letter? Is this a VO thing?
I'm finding the text edit fields behave differently than normal. If you return
to the body text field and want to add something else to the note, it seems to
put it in a different field from the one you indicated with a double tap.
Reviewing in the edit field also seems difficult.
I like the sound of this app and want to use it. Any comments welcome.

Re: Mike H a question regarding the mak and recording a internet screen capture

2013-01-25 Thread Chris Blouch
How many screens do you have? I think after you tell it to record, if
you have multiple screens, it wants you to click on the display which
you want recorded. The good thing is it doesn't care where and defaults
to the screen where your mouse was before you flipped to QuickTime
player. So if you have your mouse pointer following your VO cursor then
you can just navigate to a window on the screen you want to record,
command tab to QT Player, start a screen recording and then just do a
VO-shift-space to do the mouseclick. If you know the arrangements of the
screen you can just fling you mouse left or right and click to do
something similar.

Could you tell me what tab you were talking about? So, what number of the tab

Hi Barry,

got it. Thanks for your discription. It was the tap right before text. The
german translation is a bit strange. The used word means something like a line
break. That's what happens when you press enter at the end of a line. This
could change my complete view of Pages. I looked for so long for this option
and never found it.
Anyway: I got it and it seems to be wonderful. Thank you very much for your
help. Really: You made my day, Wow! thanks a lot.

Re: batch convert pdf to html?

2013-01-25 Thread Esther
Hi Alex, Dan, Gena, Annie, and Others,

I can adapt Dan's suggestion of using pdftotext to an AppleScript by putting a
wrapper around the command line instruction, so you can select files in Finder
and run the AppleScript in order to create .html versions of the selected files
in the same directory. This might work for his purposes, but the problem is
the requirement "I'd need line spacing preserved, and navigation could be made
into headings."

It is actually difficult to find a program that maintains formatting in
converting back to HTML, especially of table data in PDF files, although that
might depend on how the PDF file was generated. The test case I use for this
is the HTML page for Appendix A of the "VoiceOver Getting Started Guide" at:
http://help.apple.com/voiceover/info/guide/10.8/English.lproj/index.html
You'll notice that the columns of shortcut keys and associated actions read
correctly when you use the web page. If you print out a PDF version of the
page, VoiceOver reads the entries under the first column of shortcuts and then
the entries for the column of associated actions. This does not get fixed if
you convert back to HTML with pdftotext (or many other programs).

The best solution I could find, in response to a question from a member of the
mac-access list whose bank statement was delivered in PDF format, was to get
the trial version of Wondershare PDF Converter or PDF Converter Pro for Mac
from the developer's web site. This had a limit of 5 pages for conversion in
the trial version, which was suitable for bank statements, but not in general.
Note, this is not a general recommendation for that software, but it worked for
that specific purpose. To read more about this and usage tests, see the mail

To get back to this specific suggestion of pdftotext, I'll post the link to my
earlier recommendation of pdftotext to Dan, which gave some suggestions for
alternatively using this either as an AppleScript or Automator action as well
as other notes about the application:
• pdftotext utility [was Re: Xpdf for mac]
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg61916.html

The AppleScript described there for HTML conversions can be adapted for similar
use (e.g., highlight files in Finder, then run the AppleScript to batch convert
files without having to use Terminal.)

I'll paste in the AppleScript below my signature starting below the line
"---Cut Here---" and ending with the line "end run". You can save it from the
AppleScript editor under a name of your choice, like "PDF to HTML".

Hi Alex, Dan, Gena, Annie, and Others,

I can adapt Dan's suggestion of using pdftotext to an AppleScript by putting a wrapper
around the command line instruction, so you can select files in Finder and run the
AppleScript in order to create .html versions of the selected files in the same
directory. This might work for his purposes, but the problem is the requirement
"I'd need line spacing preserved, and navigation could be made into headings."

It is actually difficult to find a program that maintains formatting in converting back
to HTML, especially of table data in PDF files, although that might depend on how the PDF
file was generated. The test case I use for this is the HTML page for Appendix A of the
"VoiceOver Getting Started Guide" at:
http://help.apple.com/voiceover/info/guide/10.8/English.lproj/index.html
You'll notice that the columns of shortcut keys and associated actions read
correctly when you use the web page. If you print out a PDF version of the
page, VoiceOver reads the entries under the first column of shortcuts and then
the entries for the column of associated actions. This does not get fixed if
you convert back to HTML with pdftotext (or many other programs).

Re: Using my new mac for email

Hello Chris,

I was reading up on it the other day and it looks like I didn't bookmark
it. But it's an easy enough process. Just pick up the files in
the thunderbird profile folder that don't have an extention. These are
mbox files. Carry them across and you can then select import from the
Mac app.

Re: batch convert pdf to html?

Thanks so much for your answer, it sounds like exactly what I need! I followed
the instructions, so that my "pdf2html" script appears in the Apple scripts
menu. However, when I selected a folder of 68 pdf files and then ran the
script, nothing seemed to happen. Is the output folder the pdf source folder,
or somewhere else? The readme said it would be the source folder, but maybe it
isn't? I did not see any errors, and cmd-k in the script editor did not throw
any errors, so I'm not sure what happened. Any ideas would be wonderful. Thanks
again!

Re: labeled elements not saving on my IPhone 4S.

2013-01-25 Thread Jessica Moss
If there is another way to rename them other than syncing them, I unfortunately
haven't seen it. I was actually looking for other options other than sharing
them this morning, that used to be there in IOS5, and they all seem to have
disappeared.
The "edit," option doesn't seem to be there anymore, which made things
somewhat easier if I played around with it, and I used to be able to rename
them that way, but I can't remember exactly how I found that option before I
upgraded, sense I eventually stopped using the voice memo's when I started
using the camera and taking video's, and Hannah realized it was more fun,
obviously, to see herself rather than simply hear her voice, even though she
swore up and down that she could see herself in the audio recordings lol.
Go figure though, she's only 3, but if anyone knows where the edit feature is
in IOS6, I'd love to know where to find it.

Re: labeled elements not saving on my IPhone 4S.

2013-01-25 Thread Alex Hall
Go to the recordings list and double tap the "more info" button next to the
memo to rename. Double tap its current name (right after the heading) and
you'll get a list of names; double tap custom and you can enter your own name.
By the way, don't make my mistake and use dictation while entering the name.
When you double tap with two fingers to stop dictating, the app actually starts
recording a memo and dictation is still running. Once I got it to stop, the app
crashed.

this.

In my dropbox account, more specifically, in my photos folder, I have just now
probably over 25 to 30 MB worth of pictures. I would like to transfer all of
these photos over to my iPad. This way they will locally be in an album located
on my iPad itself that I can view offline. The problem is, as you probably can
imagine, 25 MB worth the pictures is quite a lot. I really am not up to opening
each picture individually, and then saving it individually over onto the iPad.
So, here is my question. Is there a way that I can select all of the pictures
in one shebang, and then simply copy them and one big batch over to the iPad.
This way I don't have to spend tedious time doing each picture one by one. I'll
do it with the former method, but man is it going to be your dictating! There
has got to be an easier way. Shortly I am making this way harder than it has to
be. On another note, I am noticing that Siri is butchering a lot of this
message which I am dictating via voice. Has anybody found that like me, they
have way less results As far as accuracy is concerned when using an iPad, where
if they use an iPhone, it works a lot better? What I really need to do is
probably just pair my Bluetooth keyboard that I have to my iPad. Period. Oh
well. Period. That's for a whole different post. Period. LOL! Anyway, forgive
the typos. I know it looks sloppy but whatever.

Chris.

Re: Question about dropbox iOS app.

2013-01-25 Thread Alex Hall
Do you have a computer? If so, you can just move the files into your iCloud's
photostream folder (you decide where that is in iCloud settings on the
computer). Then they will appear on your iPad's list of photos next time you
sync, assuming the iPad has Photostream enabled, and they won't be in Dropbox
anymore. Aside from that there's no way I can think of; Dropbox is designed to
be a way to sync files across different machines, so it would not make sense
for it to offer local storage.

have a ton of stuff, most of this being recipes I need to refer back to,

had issues with this, and if so, do you know of a work-around for it?

Re: Accessible ID3 tag editor

2013-01-25 Thread Danny Noonan
I've tried to find a demo copy to download but between the bad sites it's on
and the fact that half the time I can't find the different version that works
on osx 10.5 and higher, I'll have to look for this another day. It sounds like
something that would be very handy if it still works with VO. At $15 it isn't
cheep but isn't expensive either.

Re: Looking for old Outspoken demos for vintage Macs

2013-01-25 Thread Devin Prater
While I cannot tell you where to find a version, but I do know that one exists,
because I remember someone using it in a virtual machine.

Sent from my iPod with iCloud

On 24 Jan 2013, at 9:55 AM, Megan Bening wrote:

Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone happens to have a demo of the old Outspoken
screen reader that worked on (I believe) System 6 and 7, as well as OS
9.
Years ago, up until OSX was released, a company called Optelec (later
acquired by Alva) sold Outspoken. The software was discontinued in
2003 with the advent of OSX, and then the company was later closed.
Alva used to publish demos of Outspoken on their server, but it looks
like those links have been broken for several years. So, that finally
brings me to my point.
I have a couple of vintage Macs lying around, and it would be great if
I could use them independently. I'm looking for any Outspoken version
that works with System 6/7 or OS 9. I've got one Mac SE and one eMac.
I have some manuals and can probably figure out some more stuff just
by playing. I just need a link to a demo, if anyone happens to have
one, or maybe a link to a downloadable copy of the contents of a demo
CD. I would be willing to pay a small fee for this, just email me and
we can work something out.
I appologize if you feel that this thread does not belong here. I know
this is primarily an OSX list, and I generally use it as such, but had
no idea where else I could find a huge pool of blind Mac users to
consult and figured that, if nothing else, you guys might be able to
point me in the right direction.
A huge thank you in advance to anyone who can help me with this!
Thanks for reading,
Megan
