Re: Web Creation and Voice Over
Hi, Last time i looked at Rapidweaver it seemed very accessible, it's a bit on the expensive side, but maybe worth looking at. It's a web creation system where you can both use code and wysiwyg style editing. Both worked well as far as i can remember with VO. It's available in the Mac App store. /Krister 11 feb 2012 kl. 01:31 skrev Eric Oyen: > A friend of mine in Kansas (who is also blind and a mac user) uses a simple > text editor (textedit) and writes the raw html. > > if that is not for you, there may be a solution in OpenOffice. that program > can publish web pages. Problems with new extended keyboard
My friend just bought a 21.5 inch I Mac with extended USB keyboard. In key describer mode, the f1 through f4 and F7 and F8 keys do not work. Is there a special key combination to enable these function keys or did he just get a bad keyboard? Thanks. RE: A few Chrome Questions
Thanks. Are there any chrome extensions that do make reading web pages or navigating the net a better experience with VO? -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Teresa Cochran Sent: Saturday, February 11, 2012 1:34 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: A few Chrome Questions Hi, Bill, Chromevox is basically a miniature screen-reader that reads the content of webpages. You would need to turn VO off when you launch Chrome in order to use it. Also, it doesn't read menus and preferences within Chrome. However, it may have better webpage accessibility than VO in a few cases. Just be aware that you can't use VO and Chromevox at the same time. The way to install chromevox is to go into Chrome preferences with command-comma. Find the extensions tab and go to the extensions gallery from there. You can search for Chromevox in this area and download it. From there you will have instructions on how to use Chromevox. My suggestion would be to leave Chromevox alone for a bit and try Chrome with VO instead. Context Menu on the iPhone?
Hello, I am looking for the equivalent of a context menu for iPhone apps. Somehow it is probably activated by tapping once and then holding but I could be wrong. I am also wondering how to do a "select all" in an edit field. The other day, I used Siri for text dictation and could have really used a "select all and delete" command on my iPhone. I had dictated a text in English, but I had neglected to switch Siri to understand English. It took me forever to delete the text since I could only delete one character at a time. Any help on these issues is, as always, greatly and gratefully appreciated. Mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Context Menu on the iPhone?
The equivalent to a context menu for an element is typically activated by double tapping and holding, but this is neither universal nor as ubiquitous as you'd find on desktop operating systems. To select all; move through the rotor until you get to "edit" then flick up until you reach select all. You can then double tap to select and delete or replace as you like. Hi, To add to that, what one might think of as a context menu is more typically found on the iPad, as opposed to the iPhone, since the iPad screen is larger, therefore more realistate is available to the user. -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Aser Tolentino Sent: Saturday, February 11, 2012 11:50 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Cc: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Context Menu on the iPhone? Re: Context Menu on the iPhone?
Hi Mike, If you're in an edit field on a text, mail, or note on your iPhone, you can set your rotor to "Edit". Place two fingers on the screen and make a twisting gesture as though you were turning a dial. You'll hear options like "Typing mode", "Language", "Characters", "Words", "Lines", and "Edit". Then, once you have set your rotor to "Edit", flick up or down through the options. You'll hear options like "Select All", "Select","Paste", "Replace", etc. Double tap when you reach "Select All". I'm pasting in the relevant instructions from the section on "Entering and editing text with VoiceOver" from the iPhone User Guide: Select text Set the rotor to Edit, flick up or down to choose Select or Select All, then double tap. If you chose Select, the word closest to the insertion point is selected when you double-tap. If you chose Select All, the entire text is selected. Pinch apart or together to increase or decrease the selection. Cut, copy, or paste Make sure the rotor is set to edit. With text selected, flick up or down to choose Cut, Copy, or Paste, then double-tap. Undo Shake iPhone, flick left or right to choose the action to undo, then double-tap. If you put an icon for the section of the accessible HTML user guide dealing with VoiceOver on your iPhone Home screen, you can click the Home button, then navigate to this part of the guide on your home screen, double tap, and read up the sections with instructions. Then you can double click the Home button to go to the App Switcher, and return to editing your text. Mike, I did a lot of this sort of looking up instructions when I got my first iPod Touch, which is why I suggested (in my post on the mac-access list) that users add either the section heading for VoiceOver or the one above it for Accessibility to their iPhone Home screen. I'll excerpt the instructions from my mac-access list post: My preferred way to learn the VoiceOver related material is to add a link to the copy of the section of the HTML user guide that specifically deals with VoiceOver or accessibility on my home screen. For example, for the iPhone in iOS 5, this might be the section dealing with VoiceOver: • VoiceOver (in the iPhone User Guide for iOS 5) http://help.apple.com/iphone/5/voiceover/en/iph3e2e4218.html or else the section one level above it dealing with Accessibility: • Accessibility (in the iPhone User Guide for iOS 5) http://help.apple.com/iphone/5/voiceover/en/iph3e2e2c13.html There are different specific links to these sections in the guides for the iPod Touch and iPad. In Safari on your iPhone, double tap the "Utilities" button just above the Home button at the bottom of your screen. One of the options will be "Add to Home Screen". Double tapping that button will put an icon on your home screen that will let you bring up the linked section of the user guide immediately from your home screen. This provides quick access to reading about VoiceOver gestures, controlling VoiceOver using an Apple Wireless keyboard, etc. If you double tap the link given above to the VoiceOver section of the accessible HTML user guide for the iPhone while reading mail on your iPhone, then Safari will open up at that heading. You'll be able to get immediate access to the links for: VoiceOver Setting up VoiceOver Using VoiceOver Learning VoiceOver gestures Using the VoiceOver rotor control Entering and editing text with VoiceOver Making phone calls with VoiceOver Using VoiceOver with Safari Using VoiceOver with Maps Editing videos and voice memos with VoiceOver Controlling VoiceOver using an Apple Wireless Keyboard Using a braille display with VoiceOver If you double tap the "Utilities" button above your Home button, you'll find the option for "Add to Home Screen". That will allow you to immediately bring up the sections in the User Guide dealing with VoiceOver from your home screen. HTH. For those who want the full, accessible HTML version of the iPhone user guide -- which can also be accessed from your bookmarks in Safari on your iPhone -- here's the URL: http://help.apple.com/iphone/5/voiceover/en/ This information can also be found in the guides section of the AppleVis web site. Re: voice over trackpad commander gesture preference file
Hi Yuma, I don't have a direct answer for you, but here's a suggestion on how to locate the preference file you want. Open up a Finder window and use the Command-Shift-G "Go to folder" shortcut, then type or paste in the location of the Library/Preferences folder for your account: ~/Library/Preferences Have this set to view as list (Command-2), interact, then navigate to the "Date Modified" column and sort (VO-Shift-Backslash) so that you can view the most recently modified preference file. Then, go and set up a new custom gesture. After you do it, Command-tab back to your Finder window display of preferences, and check which were the most recently modified files (there might be more than one). This was the method I used to find out that the different keyboard language setups were saved in a file named "com.apple.HIToolbox.plist" -- something that I would never have guessed. The acronym stands for "Human Interface Toolbox". Also, if you're paranoid about wanting to keep copies of your most recently modified plists, using the sort by modified date and copying the most recent 50 or so may help if you want to track corrupted plists at a later time. I used to periodically keep a few saved plists just in case I wanted to track down odd account behavior changes. They don't take much room, but this ensures that I get the ones that are being modified by my actions -- whether I know their names or not. HTH. Re: voice over trackpad commander gesture preference file
Hi Esther, Thanks for the suggestion. The preference file is the one i previously checked. Com.apple.VoiceOver4.local.plist For some reason the gestures still won't save. I've also noticed that when creating a gesture in an activity, and changing a gesture back on the global commander settings, if there were no customizations on the activity, the change from the global don't reflect on the activity itself. This can quickly become messy when using multiple activities and i'm reporting this to apple as i don't think people want to be chasing down inconsistencies in gestures where global ones take precedence over non customized activity ones. A music Library without Syncing again!
Hello Everyone. This may be a long mail so delete if you do not want to read. >From time to time, we all have trouble with our music in our Itunes Library as >I had recently. To cut a story short, I had purchased a lot of music from Itunes using my I phone 4S due to the fact I was at work and feeling a bit bored with what I was doing. (Sh) do not tell the boss. I was finding that all my purchased items were not showing on my I phone 4S so I must have reset my phone half a dozen times and this kept happening that all my music was not showing. So today, I was talking to someone who has used the Mac for years with Voice Over and they were explaining how all his music was in the Cloud. Prior to that, I had gone in Itunes to the Store tab to view my account information. Purely by accident, I was checking that my Icloud was on and my Icloud Match was on too. So I kept arrowing across and I came to a tab called add devices to my I Cloud and it asked me if I wanted to add my Mac Book Pro which I duly did. Voice Over informed me that now all my music would be uploaded to the Cloud on my Mac. I then thought that this would mean I did not have to sync my I phone 4S with Itunes to get my music. So again I deleted all my content off the phone and set my phone up again. Whilst I was doing that, a friend of mine said that I should make sure all my music was uploaded to the Cloud. So he told me to do command J on my Mac as more columns would be shown where my music table was. I could check and uncheck the columns and two of the columns were important, I Cloud status and whether each song was matched or not. Once I had set up my columns, I went to each track in my music library and next to each track it either said download or local. If it said Local, then it was in the Cloud. If it said Download then it meant that I had to press the VO space bar to start the download. If I then went to the right with VO right arrow, then the Icloud status would say matched, purchased. So I went down the column with VO down arrow and made sure all the column was showing purchased, uploaded or matched. So now I have aperfect library where I do not have to sync my I phone to as I only sync my podcasts, Apps and books. Also, you can select all your music table, and do command I, go to the option tab, and slide your volume up to 100% and so when your music is played it's at maximum volume. I do not know if this information is useful to anyone but now I'm hassle free from worrying about my I phone 4S being filled up too quick. It even downloads the next trac ready to play when your track is finished. Best of luck for whoever tries it. Re: A music Library without Syncing again!
Kawal, I was a little confused when you said that if the track said "local" meant it was in the cloud and "download" meant you could download the file. As I understand, "local" indicated it is on your local drive and "Download" means it is not on your local drive, but is in the cloud. Perhaps I misunderstood? At least for me "local" means just that and the track is on my drive. I just went through a substantial cleanup of a totally unattended mess. :) On Feb 11, 2012, at 6:56 PM, Kawal Gucukoglu wrote: > Hello Everyone. > > This may be a long mail so delete if you do not want to read. > > From time to time, we all have trouble with our music in our Itunes Library > as I had recently. > > To cut a story short, I had purchased a lot of music from Itunes using my I > phone 4S due to the fact I was at work and feeling a bit bored with what I > was doing. Oh sorry, I get your point, when I was doing this, for me it was just so I knew that the music was there so when it said local, it meant the music was on my drive and so you are right in what you say! How do I put Skype on my Mac?

utorrent accessibility redux...
well, I am not sure what I did, but it seems that the scroll areas are now reading desired information to me. 3 torrents and all complete (and seeding). all I need to do is start sharing VINUX (Linux free OS for the blind) and I am all set. perhaps part of my confusion is the layout of the client. btw, DO NOT try transmission bittorrent client for OS X. the client starts with no windows and its menu is completely inaccessible. definitely will not work with voiceover. another that will work with voiceover is an ncurses based (command line) called rtorrent/libtorrent. you will have to install macports to get this client. it works reasonably well, but can be a tad difficult to deal with using voiceover. you will need to interact with the scroll area in the terminal in text mode. reorient is useful for those cases where you don't want the complexity of a GUI. -eric -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Jenny: You can download Skype for Mac OSX from the skype.com page. Once it downloads, open the Skype.dmg file you'll find in your Downloads folder and copy the "Skype.app," file to the applications folder (~/applications). Re: How do I put Skype on my Mac?
all you need to do is go to Skype.com and download the client. then you can open the dmg file and copy the Skype application to your applications folder. then start up and fill in the username/password. one thing though, Skype 5.x is hard to use in some respects. you will need growl installed to be able to automatically read chats when they happen. I use Skype 2.8 simply because the 5.x interface is a nightmare for me. -eric On Feb 11, 2012, at 5:50 PM, Jennifer Perdue wrote: > Hi, > > I've used Skype on windows but never a mac. Super frustrated trying to read table
Hello all. I am in one of those "about to toss this thing out the window" moods. I have tried reading the information on a table using Safari and Google Chrome, something I normally have no trouble doing. I am wondering if it is the site, but in every other way, the site seems accessible. It is http://www.tassimo.com I am attempting to modify an auto delivery order, but cannot read the cells in the table, and can only seem to find options to change the frequency or ship date of an order, rather than change the quantity of products. I can only read the frequency of the order -- no other cell information is accessible. Any ideas? Thanks much. Re: Super frustrated trying to read table
Hi Christine, I tried out that site with Safari 5.1.2 (part of my very recent upgrade to Lion). Here are a few observations. If you are selecting Auto Delivery, start out by selecting the quantity on the product page, where you can check availability, select the radio button for auto delivery, and set the quantity before you press the button to add to cart. When you press the button to add to your cart, you'll hear VoiceOver say "Just added to your cart" "Close". This is a window that comes up that overlays your screen. If you use item chooser menu (VO-I), and first type "just" then type "but", you'll get "Just added to your cart, close button", "Just added to your cart, checkout button", and "Just added to your cart, continue shopping button". Choose one of these options. If you use the checkout button, you should be able to navigate the table of your order. However, I tried putting sample product in the cart with default quantity of 1, set the radio button to auto delivery, then got a message that auto delivery required at least a quantity of 2. Then I tried updating the quantity within the table. I finally managed to do this, but there's a problem because the button to update the changes you make to quantity is not labeled. After the last row of your order, you'll hear voice over say something like "row 4 PRODUCT spans 5 columns button column 1". That unlabeled button turns out to be the one that you need to press to update your changes to quantity. That's why I said it's easier to start by setting the quantity when you make your original product selection, rather than trying to change it. However, if you use item chooser menu to navigate to the "Just added to your cart, checkout button" so you can press it, you should be able to read and navigate the table for your order. HTH.
