Re: RFB&D Releases RFB&D Audio iOS App
Sarah that is not accurate. NLS in fact could develop an app and you can bet this is being quietly explored. NLS may not publicly saying little or nothing, but there has been messages posted that would suggest different. So, never say never and here is something else to consider. It would be more cost-effective for NLS to leverage the iOS platform then producing players. And imagine if they sold the app for $20 and the money they could make, but getting ahead of myself. :) They may not be able to make a profit, but would help them in these difficult budget times. So, I Believe I hve an iTunes problem, but not sure
So, yesterday for the first time since getting my MacBook a week and a half ago, I authorized and attempted to sync my iPhone. I removed some albums from my sync list, and attempted to sync. While I was making the changes, itunes was horribly slow and kept giving me the message "iTunes busy". Then, I hit sync, and received a message that the sync could not take place because the iPhone was not connected. Yet, it showed up in the Sources list. Also, the capacity bar insisted I was 1.24 gigs over, but I had *removed* items and I had over 5 gig available before. Is this an iTunes issue, a connection issue, or an iPhone issue? What should I do or attempt? Thanks. Christine -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: FileMaker
I used to use FileMaker back in the early nineties and it was fully accessible. I'm sorry to say that, as of my most recent check of the demo version, FileMaker isn't accessible with voiceOver. Their Bento product is quite accessible and is considerably less expensive. It takes some experimentation to wrap one's head around how it works but I would imagine that reading the manual goes a long way toward explaining the program and how it organizes data. some good and some possibly bad news for bo users
According to the article found at http://www.tuaw.com/ Mac OS 10 offers high quality multi-lingual voices, There are going to be a whole lot of high quality voices, in a variety of languages, available for download in the next iteration of Apple's os. For me, the one possible sour note was the reference to Samantha and Tom as an improvement over Alex that we have now. I hope this will not mean that Apple will decide to retire Alex in favor of what are, for me at least, vastly inferior voices in Samantha and Tom. There will be other English voices, the ones we know on the IPhone. Indeed, it sounds like the voices that are coming to Lion are those we now have on the I-devices. Great for speakers of languages other than English. Great for folks who prefer a non-U.S. English reading voice. But a definite leap backwards if they can Alex in favor of what's on the IPhone now, even if they include the male voice. Re: some good and some possibly bad news for bo users
Hi Mary: I recently wrote to Apple Accessibility regarding voicing. I inquired about the possibility of the Alex voice being made available for the iPad. The response I got was encouraging in that Accessibility indicated they had gotten a lot of good feedback about Alex, and they couldn't comment as to whether he'd be brought over there. Re: some good and some possibly bad news for bo users
I am not a mac user, but I, too, emailed apple about porting Alex over to the iOS platform since he sounds so much better than Karen or Samantha. I hope they do not get rid of him, and I doubt they will. I heard a rumor (a tweet, actually) that he has been improved in the newest 10.7 beta; not quite as choppy on some syllables and overall smoother. Remember, everyone, to email accessibil...@apple.com to express your desire that Alex not be retired, just to be on the safe side! Well, voices are totally subjective, and I can't speak for other languages, but I'd much rather have US espeak than tom or samantha. To me those voices sound like complete garbage. Guys relax. I heard a sample of the voices and sorry I should have posted the article, but someone will. I have to say the new voices sound great and certainly no worse than Alex. So, I think we're going to be in for a real treat. In fact the voices will be a download option as well, so you won't have to have every voice on your machine. I really think folks will like them. Of course I don't mind the Samantha voice on the iOS platform all that much, but hell she grows on you after a while; sort of like mold. :) Scott On Mar 2, 2011, at 12:58 PM, erik burggraaf wrote: > Well, voices are totally subjective, and I can't speak for other languages, > but I'd much rather have US espeak than tom or samantha. Hi Scott, I looked for the links for the voice samples and did not find them. The tuaw article has a link to the source, and that source supposedly had links for samples. I went there, found the article and the link to comments but not the voice links. Where did I go wrong? Installing Dragon Dictates
Hi All, I just got Dragon Dictates and I can't get it to give me any instructions on installation. Podcast Question
I subscribed to the following: http://feeds.feedburner.com/mage/irish but there's only from episode 60 to the present. That said, I can download the rest, so I am slowly doing so. I download the files, rename them slightly, and then change the media type to Podcast once they are added to the library. (Wish there were a way to do that *outside* of iTunes.) So I have two podcast feeds with the same name, and I would prefer they all be in one feed. Is there ant wat to accomplish thism or am I just stuck with two separate things named Irish and Celtic Music Podcast? Re: some good and some possibly bad news for bo users
Hi all, For one thing, the voices on the mac will be of a higher quality than on iOS. Apple insider has samples of the voices. I didn't think much of Jill, but samantha sounded better than she has on any previous platform, and tom was just fabulous. I think Tom has a good chance of replacing alex for me. For those having trouble finding the samples, I think having click to flash installed makes this kind of thing much easier. Here's the link to the article. HTTP://Dlvr.it/J1fXf Also, I would think that everyone waiting for Alex on iOS will be slightly disappointed. He will be pleasant to hear for sure, but not up to the standards we expect of that voice on the mac. I would guess it would be a marginal improvement over samantha at best. Remember, quality is somewhat limited by the lower specifications of the device. This is why, for example, Samantha sounds so terrible on the Victer reader stream and so good on the iPhone. Nobody need worry about Alex going anywhere. Apple knows Alex is the most popular voice. Moving items in iTunes playlists
Hiya all, Is there a way with voiceover, using Drag and Drop or whatever, to move items up and down within iTunes playlists? A couple of friends of mine want to start a disco, and I'm (for my sins), doing the DJ setup, so I need to set them up a playlist, we can use with DJ, to get the whole things running, but we'll need to add items into the middle of the playlist, whenever we add them into the set. Is there a way to relyably do this with VoiceOver? Re: housekeping: set-up for replying to list
I agree with the below statement. And not that I've seen this a lot, but you would think that, considering the volume of the list, the one liner messages could be avoided, if at all possible - imho, it is common sense. This is a great setup as it allows posters to very easily take a conversation off the list and keep it going privately; to do so, one party needs only to reply to sender, instead of reply to all, and the rest of the list will not see the subsequent messages (unless someone copies the list address on a message for some reason). Rogers and at&t share the same towers, or at least rogers in Canada bought them from the US. No wonder signal, overall network speed suck here, though I'm not getting any dropped calls. the hello, I'm just curious you mention that they been deal with Bluetooth Trail, from what I understand it varies by display you support to an IOS when it comes to Bluetooth braille. Editing Tracks in Amadeus
I use Amadeus to do podcasts. So I have a track with my voice. Then ideally I will have another track with the intro and outro music. I think I've figured about expanding and collapsing the boxes in the scroll area to tell it the track(s) on which you wish to work, do I have that right? Anyway, I can paste the intro in the track fine, but what about the outro? Markers seem to only apply to one track. Really I want to set the markers in my voice track, then bring them down to the music track so I can drop in the outro. This doesn't seem to work. Any help? I read about moving tracks in the manual, but it only described it with drag and drop gestures. I tried the drag/drop VoiceOver commands but they didn't work. I suppose I could compute the length and generate silence then put in the outro, but that sounds torturous at best, and I know a better way exists. I just have to learn. Thanks for any guidance anyone can give. - Austin -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: iOS 4.3 to Launch on March 11th: HotSpot, Faster Safari, iTunes Home Sharing
What, exactly, is broken about bluetooth braille? I have a BrailleNote Apex and use it several times a week. Aside from the initial pairing process, which I have only had to do a couple times, things could not be easier. The one major problem I have is lack of computer braille and/or a better translator, but if you type quickly it is really not a problem. Of course there is always room for improvement, but I have not yet found anything that needs fixing (aside from the translation trouble). Actually I do everythign in one track. 1. load yoru podcast track. 2. past in yoru intro at the begining. 3. past your outtro at the end. Re: one liners
to me if a one liner can explain something and explain it well then go for it, but if it is just simply, yes then no. example number 1: Yes example 2: Yes the feature you suggested does work very well with voice over and is very accessible. All you need to do is tap tap hold and flick to the choice. Ok the second one was not a 1 liner but it is close enough. lol! Take care all. Re: Any hidden Gotchas when installing more RAM in a MacBook?
If you find out the type & speed of ram that your macbook has, you can just buy any ram that is the same specs. Bear in mind that if you want to go to 8GB it could get a bit expencive depending on your current configuration - e.g. if you don't have a 4GB stick, you'll have to get rid of all of your current ram and get 2x 4GB sticks. Re: Verizon to Drop Unlimited iPhone Data Plans as Soon as This Summer
Actually, lets discuss this a little there are some interesting points here. The largest limiter is spectrum. Each tower only has so much bandwidth (literal bandwidth) that it can use. This means you can only push so many megabits over all for everyone on a given facility. The more spectrum you have the more send and receive sessions you can have in parallel but the key thing to remembr it's a shared resource. As these companies use new technologies you also notice they add more spectrum in different bands. The newer technologies have more bands and use spectrum differently as well as more frequency space but the end result is more bandwidth and more efficient use of the available room. So the more pipe that's available, the more spectrum and better the technology you can use more devices in the same allocated resource level so you can give users more slices to use or drop costs, any combination of moves based on the larger facility. As for ATT and Verizon in the states, try them both. Don't just assume that ATT sucks and VZ does not. I did this and was proven quite wrong. ATT is 2 - 3 times faster and has some more advanced calling features do to the different technologies used. VZ is good no doubt but has problems as well and in the end it depends on the specific geography you will be using your device. I would definitely try both side by side though, it's not as cut and dry as you make it. iTunes question
Hello listers. I'm wondering if any of you are experiencing this problem. When I launch iTunes every time, a dialog comes up asking me if I want to allow incoming connections. This happens with other apps too but when I say allow, for any other app accept iTunes,it never comes up again. If any of you are experiencing this, have you found a fix? If not, I guess I'll be sending a bug report to Apple Feedback. Thanks for any info. Hi Joe, It will be an experience alright, one that you will cherish for years to come. I am going to do a podcast for blind cool tech on how to use hot spots in voice over, which is somewhat of an advanced topic but it is one that no other screen reader offers. You bring up some goodpoints. If you were referring to me making it cut and dry and advising to try both, I have tried both side by side where I live. Re: iOS 4.3 to Launch on March 11th: HotSpot, Faster Safari, iTunes Home Sharing
I have used the Focus Blue, Refresh A Braille, and Easy Link 12 now known as the Braille Pen with the current IOS, and have been happy with how all three worked. In fact, I love using my Focus Blue with my iPhone 4 and the Braille Pen at $995 with my iTouch is fantastic. Just imagine a nice notetaker with a 12 cell Braille display for well under $2,000. I have not seen any big problems with the bluetooth with any of these three displays, but I have not tried the Braille Connect. But, since I do have one on my desk at work I will give it a try and see how it does. Re: iOS 4.3 to Launch on March 11th: HotSpot, Faster Safari, iTunes Home Sharing
Ok, I have seen the loss of Braille when the screen locks. That would be a good one to fix. But, you can fix that by setting the iTouch to never lock. That is possible. I have not seen the display disconnect when the screen locks only that you no longer get any Braille output until the unit is unlocked again. - Original Message - From: "erik burggraaf" To: Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2011 4:55 PM Subject: Re: iOS 4.3 to Launch on March 11th: HotSpot, Faster Safari, iTunes Home Sharing When my ITouch goes to sleep it juncks the connection to my braille connect and I have to manually reconnect it.
