nisus writer express
Hi all, Has anybody had experience with this product and VO? Mac updates has it as a promotion for 50% off today. I wondered how it was compared with Pages, especially since there are issues with not being able to read tables in Pages. How are they in Nisus writer with vo? Any other comments? $22 seems like a decent price if this product is really accessible. mary Mary Otten motte...@gmail.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. We have a little Bose system that I use with my iPod. The sound is great, particularly for something so small. Re: re-uploading songs to youtube
the easiest way is with quick time player. it has a camera capture, or a screen capture function. I use the screen capture for creating video of problem websites and then sending the link to the appropriate webmeisters. be aware, I have had problems with QT and youtube. better to export the video to iMovie and then publish from there. both QT and Imovie are reasonably accessible under voiceover, so not too many problems there. -Eric On Nov 17, 2010, at 3:09 AM, Donna Goodin wrote: > Just to add to this. Re: re-uploading songs to youtube
I've been poking around iMovie for any screen capture abilities. if there is one, I haven't found it yet. otherwise, iMovie can import from just about any supported camera (including the iSight) without a hitch. QT has a greater number of codecs and options for exporting movies but will try to save in .mov with H.264 video and AAC audio. this is easily importable into iMovie where you can add effects, edit the clip and publish to youtube (or export as an m4v file and allow youtube to upload directly from their upload link). each has it own advantages that they bring to the table. I use both because one has a feature or 2 the other does not. -Eric On Nov 17, 2010, at 3:18 AM, Donna Goodin wrote: > Thanks. Re: re-uploading songs to youtube
there's a nice technique for taking pictures that any blind person can learn. just take the digicam and hold the back of it to your forehead and then listen for where your target is. if you hold pretty level, you can achieve some pretty good shots. at least this is how I do it. I also use a helmet mounted handicam when I am out bike riding (tandem or sighted guide solo). I don't know what my shots look like. but it seems they are very usable on youtube. -Eric On Nov 17, 2010, at 3:25 AM, chad baker wrote: > Hi the problem i'm having my song is in mp4. > Also is there any alternative besides youtube its only audio. > > i'm not too good taking pictures > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "MacVisionaries" group. > To post to this group, send email to macvisionar...@googlegroups.com. > To unsubscribe from this group, send email to > macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > For more options, visit this group at > http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries?hl=en. > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Oh boy
That is something my PC friends always ask, where is the tower? I would hate to have some big bulky tower again. It is a shame Apple do not make TVs, imagine how slim and gorgeous it would be with the iOS operating system built in. No more need for a TV aerial, could just stream content to it via wi fi and the only lead you would have to hide on the wall would be the power lead. The iPad/iphone/iPod Touch could be the remote control. I would rather have that, then some little add on TV box. Apple need to seriously consider this as Sony are now building in Google internet services and BBC iPlayer, Twitter, YouTube, Yahoo Weather, Love FILM etc and Samsung are going down this route too. Re: re-uploading songs to youtube

I'm always afraid that I will shoot something inappripriate. But I think having some videos on Youtube might help my music fan base grow. Oh, now that I think of it it's not a program it's a website. You upload the mp3 file, and then the picture and it will export it and upload it to Youtube. Have a wonderful day. Hi CHad, You have to import the song in to Quicktime, once you record what you want, there are the share options you spoke if. Once the file is in QT the share options should not be dimmed. Hi Donna and all, THe site I was speaking of earlier is: http://www.mp32tube.com/ I have never had success with importing anything in to Imovie. Re: speeding up media
Hi Heather, You could use QuickTime Player to speed up playback. Navigate to the mp3 file you want in Finder, then bring up the context menu (VO+Shift +M) and find the selection "Open With". Right arrow to the submenu and select QuickTime Player. If you bring up the A/V Control Window (Command+K shortcut to toggle this window on, or go to the "Window" menu on the QuickTime Player menu bar to find this option), navigate to the Playback Speed slider and interact to set the speed you want. If you want to do this after locating your track in the iTunes songs table, I think you can use Command+Shift+R to reveal your track location in Finder under iTunes 10. (In iTunes 9 it's Command+R to bring up a Finder window with your selected track highlighted.) Then, go to the context window to "Open with QuickTime Player" as outlined above, and use the A/V Control Window playback slider to speed things up. I use AppleScripts to switch track playback between iTunes and QuickTime Player at preset faster speeds, following a tip that once appeared at the Mac OS X Hints site, and which is described in this archived list post on speeding up podcasts: http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg09819.html However, you can always just open QuickTime from the context menu as I described above. HTH. Cheers, Esther On Nov 15, 2010, heather kd5cbl wrote: Well, I was listening to some mp3 lectures using media player classic on the pc side and itunes on the mac side. I guess I am so used to listening to things fast that it get really boring to listen to it slow! Re: Oh boy
Hi Sarai, Sounds like a fun time. If you do consider mounting an iMac on your wall, here are a couple of things I learned about the process: 1. Regardless of the wall mount you choose, you will need to purchase Apple's VESA mounting adapter kit for the iMac. I think it currently costs around US $30. I used to have Apple's 24 inch LED display and found it pretty simple to remove the existing stand and install the VESA adapter. The adapter kit included the tools necessary to remove the existing stand and attach the VESA adapter. 2. If at a future time you decide to remove the iMac from the wall and put it on a desk, it is pretty simple to remove the VESA adapter and re-install the original imac stand. 3. The current model of the smaller 21.5 inch iMac does not have the same VESA mounting capabilities found in the larger 27 inch iMac model. Apparently it is not possible to remove the existing stand from the 21.5 inch model without performing major warranty-voiding iMac surgery. I think there is a 3rd party vendor who sells a wall mounting kit for the 21.5 inch iMac that works with the existing stand still attached. No trackpad commander in VO utility
Howdy Folks, I've gotten the opportunity to play with a loaner MacBook pro. I'm trying to get the hang of VO and have run into a problem. I brought up the VO utility, navigated to the commanders item, and then magitated through the tabs. There's the numpad commander and the keyboard commander, but no trackpad commander. I'm trying to find out if this is because my hardware is too old, or my software is too old. Could someone advise me on how to determine exactly which version of VO i'm running, and perhaps even how to tell which MacBook I have (if it matters) Thanks To Everyone, Jim -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: No trackpad commander in VO utility
Hello Jim, First of all, if the MBP is still on Leopard, you won't have the Trackpad Commander. You can check this by going to the Apple menu (VO-m) then navigating down to About This Mac and pressing Return. If you navigate right, you'll find the level of the OS (10.6.5 if it has the latest version). Another reason for the Trackpad Commander to be missing is if the MBP doesn't have the multitouch trackpad. If there is a separate long bar in front of the trackpad, then it is an older machine and the Trackpad Commander cannot work on it. Re: No trackpad commander in VO utility
all the information you need will be in the "about," menus; for the Macbook, use VO M to navigate to the menu bar at the top of the screen; when you hear "apple," down-arrow once or twice to "About this mac." VO space bar on that, and you'll be presented with a window with which you can interact and read about which mac and software you are using. When you're in the VO utility, navigating to the menu bar and right-arrow once to "about voiceover utility," and down-arrow twice to "about VoiceOver Utility," will give you similar information about which version of VO. However, if your software is older than version 10.6, you might not have all the commander options. • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. More about ODSAgent was Re: longshot help with odsagent error
Arg, I'm irritated. I've got rid of the ODSAgent unable to locate componant error. Apparently it was caused by apple cd and dvd sharing, because when I uninstalled that thing it went away. unfortunately I haven't got dns resolution back. I downloaded Itunes for windows figuring that it would have all the latest cd and dvd sharing drivers and guessing it would probably have the latest bonjour stuff too. Well, it installed a tank load of stuff, but I still don't have dns resolution. I've gone in and checked the huge list of services and it seems that everything to do with networking, internet, DHCP, DNS and so on is checked. So, any other thoughts? I'd love to go in and do apple software updates, only I can't get to the update server because it's name isn't resolving. Re: Oh boy
Oh yeah you would definitely want to mount something like that to a wall. It's like a flat screen tv. I have a 73 inch display that I hang on the wall in a similar way. I could see setting this up against a back wall near my desk so it didn't take up desk space. That or mounting on a swing out near the bed, etc. Lots of variations where this might make sense. I know someone who has a flat screen similar mounted in a hottub. On Nov 17, 2010, at 10:43 AM, Carolyn Haas wrote: > Ok, Chris. Thanks for the explanation. Re: Oh boy
I was jealous the other day, not because of an Imac, but my girlfirend's brother-in-law runs a recording studio and he runs a Mac pro with 8 processors and 5 tb of harddrive space, which is just beyond crazy. compared to that my MacBook Pro is a toy. Not to mention that I would probably replace my regular windows machine with an imac, but I'm waiting till the machine dies first, plus I don't have the money at the moment. And Nic, would that shield cover be the Belking shield eclipse cover for iphone 4 and Ipod touch 4th gen? Bryan, It sure pays to read instructions sometimes. I can usually feel things and know what to do. but this is a helpful note. Thanks. Isaac - Original Message - From: "Bryan Jones" To: Sent: Wednesday, November 17, 2010 11:11 AM Subject: Re: Oh boy Hi Sarai, Sounds like a fun time. Re: mounting the mac to the wall
Hi Heather! Although I do not have mine mounted! I should think there would be enough of a gap behind the Mac for air cooling! There has to be enough room for the power lead and some people might want to plug things into it! Even though you can go wireless! I do not know in exactly what situations it happens, but in my opinion it is completely unaceptable that they are going to make something that claims to be a damn cell phone and there are reliability issues with the contacts even dstaying on the damn thing! This is just what I think is a justified frustration with this product not measuring up to acceptable standards in an area where it clearly should. In any case, I have come to the conclusion that a way around part of the problem of the lack of reliability, and only part of the problem but at least a big part, is to use a program like IDrive lite or contact tools to backup your contacts from the phone once you have them the way you want them and these programs allow a way of restoring selected contacts or the entire database. Contact tools keeps the backup on the phone internally in its own file in your choice of formats, a couple of which are able to be used for a restore and IDrive lite backs them up to their server on the internet and can be accessed through a web browser from anywhere. The parts that definitely can not solve is the inconvenience and the issue of when some disappear and you get an incoming call from one that has disappeared at that time and the phone will not recognize who that is and will give you a number instead I presume on the caller ID that hopefully you will recognize at that time. An unreliable contacts manager in something that has any damn business calling itself a phone is something that is just absolutely unacceptable in my opinion for sure though. Maybe 4.2 will fix it, but I doubt that more than I would assume it would. I love what the IPhone afords us in accessibility, but I can't stand what I perceive as Apple's attitude towards quality assurance in their products. They get by on people's inflated illusions in that area. Yes that is my opinion. Yes some will disagree. Can they back up their position? I don't know. This is not correct. Well half correct. There are different kernels both the 32 and 64 bit version, it just depends on which you load. Re: More about ODSAgent was Re: longshot help with odsagent error
Eric, Did this ever work for you? If not, then put your Snow Leopard installation disk into the computer when the VM is running. There should be a set of drivers to install. I didn't think these were needed when using a VM, though they are certainly needed in a boot camp version of XP. If you snapshot that VM before doing the install, then you won't be any worse for wear, since you could always revert back. If you don't need your Windows machines to see your Mac, then you don't need to turn on this option. Also, you might try navigating to smb://WindowsMachineName where WIndowsMachineName is the name of your windows box. If notthing else, you might get a error you can look up in the Macintosh help files. Jon On 17/11/2010, Mike Arrigo wrote: > Try going to the computer window by pressing command shift c. Re: speeding up media
I'm afraid I don't know how to do this on the Mac, so someone else will need to step in. However, if iTunes/idevices think that what you're listening to is a book, then you have the option of speeding it up. In my windows iTunes, you can go into get info, and change the type of media you're listening to to be "audiobook" I'm guessing there's a way to do this on the mac as well. Weird. I got the magic track pad to pair with my macbook pro, but it won't pair with my mac mini. Wondering if somehow the batteries are dead, even though I only got it a month ago. Re: Syncing folders over the Air
So the questions are how paranoid are you. Things to think about: 1. Do you have a router / firewall between you and the internet? 2. Do you have modern 64 bit or higher encryption on your wireless? As long as the above two points are met correctly, and you don't try to use FTP outside of your lan, then you should be safe. The problem with FTP is that the password must be transmitted unencrypted, so anybody that can watch your network traffic can get your password. Also the data transfered will not be encrpted by the transfer stack unlike with SFTP. Jon On 15/11/2010, Austin Seraphin wrote: > Yes. Unfortunately, I've found the bluetooth devices often don't like to play with other devices when they are paired with another. This is often, but not always true. Adjusting latency in Amadeus Pro
Hello all, I downloaded the demo of Amadeus Pro, and I'm loving it. Currently, I have the output of my mixing board sent to the line in jack on my MBP. (I'll purchase an interface later.) How do I adjust the latency of the sound coming in through the line in jack? I'm still getting used to the Mac, so please excuse me if this is an RTFM sort of question. Just to add to this, Make sure your router doesn't automatically start redistributing your net bios traffic. User authentication is pretty useless if the ports are open so you want to make sure you have a router and the firewall options are set blocking traffic from the outside. John's comments are pretty on the money though. Just remember if you share it chances are it's available to the world unless you take steps to secure the data. Microsoft is known for being unsecure. It even speaks FTP and someone on Twitter even said NFS. Wow! So I can see my iMac from my MacBook Air, very good. Now, I want to figure out a way to keep folders in sync. Specifically, if I make a change in my documents folder, I want to automagically reflect over the network as soon as possible. If I change something on the Air, I want it to go to the iMac. If I change something on the iMac, I want it to change the next time I open up the Air. I've seen a few apps and tried one, but couldn't access it very well, and thought I'd ask the list. Any thoughts? I hoped MobileMe would do this, but no dice, at least according to the Apple guy. In Linux I would set up a rsync cron job or something. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. hi carolin, I have to agree with you about how tough the i-phone really is. i have an i-phone 3 gs since last october 31. I am looking forward to getting the i-phone 4 in the next few months it might take me until feb or march to get one but when i do it will be totally worth it in the end. I have a cousin that has one and i had the chance to play around with it and really enjoyed it. did not want to give it back in fact. next month i will be purchasing i-life 11 for my mb pro. and my cousin is going to put fusion onto my mb pro next month for free so that is one thing that i will not have to buy for myself. however, i am enjoying my wireless key board. it is so easier to send messages to people now without having to send them using my index finger all of the time like i had use to do before. chenelle Sent from my iPhone -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: imovie
Hi, You can import from various formats as well as your video camera. You can also record stuff using the built-in eye-site camera on your Mac if all you'd like to record is whatever it is picking up. It's not very accessible although movie editing is not an activity that visually impaired/blind individuals are expected to be hugely involved in. You can also read the help documentation under the Help menu as it is very useful. I use it lots when assisting students in the classroom. Later... I also think that 99c a track is still too much, no cheaper to buy an album worth of tracks and I don't even get a disc. real cds still sound better than downloads a home, of course i still enjoy my vinyl collection as well so I'm a throwback of course i still have a 2 channel pioneer system sitting here in front of me pioneer amp bose 2.1 bookshelf speakers, technics turntable ect lol :) On Nov 15, 2010, at 1:32 AM, Neil Barnfather - TalkNav wrote: > Ricardo, > > for me its the quality of the compression from the download that is the issue > that keeps me buying CD's. > > When I can get a download at a higher rate, up in the 700kbps range I'll be > happier, and one that let's me download the item within reason as many times > as I like, unlike Apple. > > At this time most downloads are 320kbps or less, often less, and yet I rip in > double this. > > can I hear the difference, not always, but often yes, granted not on my > iPhone headset, but on a good quality home entertainment system, or keeping > with the spirit of the conversation of cars, in the back of my Merc S Classs > yes, it certainly is notable. > > Its essential that the download providers get their act together and up the > quality of the download, and allow me to download my collection say at least > twice a year or so in case I accidently delete something. > > once I can do this I'll switch to downloads only. > > > On 14 Nov 2010, at 07:57, Ricardo Walker wrote: > > Its all ready changing. Re: Chat clients: Was Telnet
you aren' the oly one one major problem with the mac is it doesn't run mIRC I live on irc and that is one of two tasks I perfom on my old beat up slow pc that I'd MUCh rather do on my mac the other being mud games. telnet for mud is not really acceptable because voiceover skips older text whe new text appears, so you can die without realising yoru hp is getting low because you don't hear the reply to you rhp request for example. I never have been able to cht through telnet but I'm willing to try that as it is at least slower than a mud game most of the time, although no tby alot in some large rooms I frequent On Nov 16, 2010, at 3:45 PM, Deb Lewis wrote: > Hi!! > Still looking for chat client recommendations. Re: moving to a computer-based entertainment system Using Tivo
Hi: I set the recordings, manage season passes, to do lists, etc from the Tivo site. I have my shows organized in folders which appear in alphabetical order. The Tivo provides beeps, and other audio feedback as you arrow up and down menus. The tivo remote also as shortcut keys that have assigned tasks. On the PC, Tivo desktop will let you transfer Tivo shows from the Tivo to the PC. Direct Show Dump Utility will let you convert from Tivo format to any other video format. On the Mac, I have iTivo, which transfers from the Tivo, and converts to MPG which is my prefered format. You can use iTivo to transfer and have the videos show up in iTunes to transfer to an iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc. There is also a Tivo app for the iPhone that is supposed to let you accessibly navigate your Tivo box from the phone, but I cannot remember the name of it! I have a series 2 Tivo box.
