Thanks, that settles the problem, the font server was lost. This had nothing to do with LyX, sorry for the thread. -- Jean-Pierre
babel
I defined a new command in the preamble: \newcommand{\RKe}{\selectlanguage{polish}Rafa"l K"edziorski} but, using as ERT, I get this output: Rafa"l K"edziorski But if I put this {\selectlanguage{polish}Rafa"l K"edziorski} instead of \RKe then I get the right output. Surely a babel-related detail. Juergen, could you produce a rpm of 1.3.3 with the patch in bug 1415 and let alberto test it? It would be a goo way to check that the bug is indeed solved. Hmm, I have read the release notes now, and indeed your rpm may have problems nevertheless. I'll remove it. JMarc

book with exercises and answers
Hello. I guess I'm not the first one that wants to write a book with exercises and answers to these exercises. The problem that I have not found an answer to, is how to keep track of the answers (that are printed in a chapter/section in the end of the book, OR at the end of each chapter), so they get the same number as the exercises like 3.1.4 (chapter 3, section 1, exercise number 4, and so on). I guess the most convenient way in LyX would be to write something like ... some other text <-- mark this as "exercise" in LyX <-- mark this as "answer" in LyX ... continue with other text... And then LaTeX puts the answer in the right place, with the right number! Now, how do I do that in Lyx (or what would the best latex commands be?) I'm greatful for any help you can provide.

I have updated to qt 3.2.1 in the meantime. I don't think that an rpm built on my system will run on an "out-of the-box" SuSE 8.2 :-( But I have found the following RPM, which is an alternative build with the qt frontend: http://apt.bygden.nu/SuSE/8.2-i386/RPMS.suser-tcousin/lyx-1.3.3-1.i586.rpm Alberto, can you please try and test if this one is better? If yes, we could provide it one our server, too. Regards, Jürgen.
Problems installing LyX-1.3.3 on Debian Woody
Hello, I've compiled and packaged LyX-1.3.3 for Woody by using checkinstall. Compilation (--with-qt3 option) went fine and building the deb was carried out successfully, but I went into troubles installing the resulting package with "dpkg -i lyx_1.3.3-1_i386.deb". Obiviousely dpkg refused to install LyX because it tried unsuccessfully to override the file /usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/cm/cmex10.pfb which is according to dpkg part of installed tetex-extra package. Here are my installed TeX packages: ii tetex-base 1.0.2+20011202 basic teTeX library files ii tetex-bin 1.0.7+20011202 teTeX binary files ii tetex-doc 1.0.2+20011202 teTeX documentation ii tetex-eurosym 1.0-3 Euro symbol for LaTeX ii tetex-extra1.0.2+20011202 extra teTeX library files Now I am kind of stuck, don't know where to go from here! Any ideas? Doing the same with LyX-1.3.2 just went fine, so I wonder what changed so profoundly in LyX-1.3.3 Thomas Btw: My first trial to send this message ended into nothingness, so I send it once again to get some response

One simple solution (I'm sure there are others, probably more elegant): 1. Insert labels in your chapter and section headings. 2. Use the Enumerate environment for the exercises, and put a label in each one. Start each answer with a series of cross references separated by periods like this: .. Answer to Exercise 1. .. Answer to Exercise 2. Les

TOC problems
Hello, I am having two problems and cannot find solutions to them: 1) I need the first page of the TOC to not show a page number, but the counter started at number vi. But I need the second page of the TOC to show the next page number. So for example my TOC begins on page vi and the second page is on page vii. But I don't want the first page to show the page number. 2) I have my sections underlined. Upon completing this task, I found that the TOC also underlines the sections, when what I need is for them not to be underlined in the TOC. For reference I am using the report class in lyx 1.3.3. Any help would be much appreciated. Brad
Image not displaying in Lyx
Hello all, I have started using Lyx-1.3.1 Windows XP port by Claus. However I am having a problem getting any images at all to display in the the figure floats. I have added the lines: \converter "eps" "ppm" "convert $$i $$o" "" \converter "jpg" "eps" "convert $$i $$o" "" \converter "png" "eps" "convert $$i $$o" "" to my preferences file, and they show up in the Lyx dialog box. I have installed ImageMagic 5.5.7 for windows, and this setup works for the test. I can open up a DOS window and run convert on a jpeg file and get it to an eps file ok and view the eps using gsview32. However when I insert the picture into a lyx file, I get the error "error converting to loadable format". I then started lyx from a dos window using 'lyx -dbg 3' and tried putting in an image again. It comes up with a strange sort of error about not being able to find lyxconvert0.sh in a tmp directory. I have included a screenshot at: http://members.optusnet.com.au/~tjelliffe/lyx_error.jpg As I couldnt copy the error message. The setup details are: GSview 4.4 Ghostscript 8.11 ImageMagik 5.5.7 Lyx 1.3.1 (Claus port) Windows XP Pro Is this because it cant find the postscript viewer? I recall from stumbling through some of the setup details that it was looking for gs or gview, whereas GSview starts from gsview32. Not sure. So currently cant get any images, even ps/eps ones to display in my Lyx files. Thanks for any advice! Tim J

increasing TeX capacity
Hi guys, I've nearly finished my thesis but now that I have added in an appendix with 9 tables (128 rows, 9 columns); LyX (TEX) will not compile it. I get the error message: TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size = 350001] If you really absolutely need more capacity you can ask a wizard to enlarge me. Is anybody a wizard/can someone help me enlarge this? Many thanks Simon ps I've already checked Herbert's site and the mail list archive.
New ftp site for CJK-LyX
Hello, I have lost all the data on the ftp site, stone.phys.pusan.ac.kr, which I have tried to recover, but in vain. I do not know what caused the problem, but the machine has the history of being hacked from outside several times. So, I decided to open a new ftp site for CJK-LyX, ftp://cellular.phys.pusan.ac.kr/CJK-LyX Please notice that to save the disk space, I have uploaded only the most recent version of CJK-LyX on the site. Anyone who needs old versions may email to me. Regards, cghan
