One simple solution (I'm sure there are others, probably more elegant): 1. Insert labels in your chapter and section headings. 2. Use the Enumerate environment for the exercises, and put a label in each one. Start each answer with a series of cross references separated by periods like this: <Ref:chap:This-Chapter>.<Ref:sec:This-Section>.<Ref:enu:Exercise-1> Answer to Exercise 1. <Ref:chap:This-Chapter>.<Ref:sec:This-Section>.<Ref:enu:Exercise-2> Answer to Exercise 2.
