KX-T: KX-TA1232 vs TD1232

2002-07-29 Thread Charles P.

Randy (or others),

When would a customer choose the A1232 over the D1232? is it just the price
that makes a difference?

KX-T: Fw: KX-TA1232 vs TD1232

2002-07-29 Thread randydell

I think it is primarily price, not just the price of the KSU, but phones
also. The down side is a single line display on the 70XX and 73XX phones.
I am sure Panasonic will release a 3 line LCD, and with some improved
CallerID features the TA will be a much better residential solution.

Just my opinion

You know, you just might have something. Last spring, someone STOLE a
Combine from a farm implement dealer. They hopped in and drove it down the
road to a waiting trailer :-).

CID would have worked. I guess they must have activated CFOS, a Comdial
feature for Combine Forward Off Site.

A few other things:

(1) Customer is upgrading from an older analog system for more capacity
or to have CID or better VPS operation, but customer plans to keep old
analog phones, or likes the looks of the 7300s better than 7400s.

(2) Customer can buy it wholesale without certification.

(3) Customer wants CID on CW.

(4) Customer can buy it wholesale without certification.

(5) The A1232 could handle four door intercom speakers before the D1232
could.

(6) Customer can buy it wholesale without certification.

Lads and Gentlemen

In this corner, weighing in at 899 dollars is the TA-1232 Ugly Stepsister
of the TD-1232. In this corner, weighing in at slightly more (1299?) is
the TD-1232.

Sigh, is this a 15 rounder?

I sold my last TA-624 carded as a 616 for a 1.5 mark on the KSU and cards
and a 1.4 mark on the phones. Yep,
round numbers $125 for the 7050's, $140 for the 7020's, $170 for the 7030,
$190 for the 7330, and $220 for the 7130/35. WTP? The customer stepped
himself up to 7020's and took a 7135 for programming. (does anyone REALLY
like the Euro-style phones, missing the 4 extra programmable buttons?)

Did I mention that I marked it up from Pana LIST? The 7% wasn't even
mentioned.

If you lose a system to price, go on to the next quote. If you lose a
system on SERVICE, go back to class--and I don't mean Panasonic class.

Price fixing, by manufacturers or groups of dealers, is illegal, but not
unknown. Some cars are almost never discounted, and Bose speakers are
almost never sold below list price except during manufacturer-authorized
sales.

In the short term, it's tough to compete with dealers who sell at "P"
price. But in the long-term, installers have much more to fear from
products like the KX-TGA420 (wireless 4-line speakerphone with AA, VM,
CID, etc.), than from sellers who don't care about profits.

More and more you have to sell brain power -- your ability to make a
product do things that other dealers can't make it do -- not your
ability to snake wires.

I'm a dealer, not a distributor, so I can sell to anyone.

Distribs are not supposed to sell digital products to non-certified
dealers, or to end-users.

Some digital products, and lots of analogs, get sold by hungry distribs
to end users.

> I have cleaned up some of your uncertified sales...Jim

I'm glad to hear it. I assume the customer was grateful and you made
money.

I think most dealers, including us, have cleaned up/fixed up/added
to/explained systems sold by others.

It's a gender thing, Ken.

The 7300s are chick phones. Real men want 7400s (but not the wussy
12-button models).

Even more macho stuff is coming: 7600s (digital next year) and 7700s
(analog this year).

Yeah, and the 624-4 and the TA-1232-2 and the TD-6's are all coming in
October :-).

Well, it's something to look forward to in the seminar on 9/10.

With key sytstem manufacturers struggling, it's refreshing to see Panasonic
helping us sell by offering real incentives to help them unload old product
and dog phones, back to those 73xx's again :-). Of course, this is in the
wake of Comdial MD'ing the 408 Digital KSU and replacing it with the DX-80,
and Lucent/Avaya...well, let's not go there. I hope I never need to expand
the Partner sytems I sold, because I might not be able to get new parts.
In fact, the same goes for Comdial, but I guess some of us have a bit of a
nightmare trying to find
72xx series phones.

I don't know, the phone on my desk is a standard 7230. I like it. A 7020
is my workstation phone. I mean, how many lines of display do you need and
I have the same 10 numbers or less in my speed dial that I had for the last
12 or so years...in the same locations. I tried a 7235 for a month. Hated
it. It was too fragile for the way I treat my phone. I don't abuse it, it
just ends up on the floor a lot. Luckily I've only consumed 3 or 4 total
sets in 15 years.

I may have to sneak out a 7135B for evaluation out of my demo case next.

I took a VA system out of one home and put in a TD816, the customer saw the
7400 size and said no way. He loves the footprint size of the 7000.
