Price fixing, by manufacturers or groups of dealers, is illegal, but not unknown. Some cars are almost never discounted, and Bose speakers are almost never sold below list price except during manufacturer-authorized sales. In the short term, it's tough to compete with dealers who sell at "P" price. But in the long-term, installers have much more to fear from products like the KX-TGA420 (wireless 4-line speakerphone with AA, VM, CID, etc.), than from sellers who don't care about profits. More and more you have to sell brain power -- your ability to make a product do things that other dealers can't make it do -- not your ability to snake wires. Michael N.
