The error ocurrs when I try to install debian on a new 15" powerbook
(the modell changed in oct-nov), i tried last week a daily build and
it didnt work. The CD starts without problem, but it doesnt detect the
CDROM and the Hard Drive, so I cant install Debian.

I have a G4 powermac at the work, and there I downloaded the oficial
2.6.14.5 kernel from kernel.org. I needed to patch it because the
pmac.c and pci_ids.h didnt contain the change for the new powerbooks.
Then I tried to create a custom CD, and with my custom kernel, it
detects CDROM and Hard Drive, but I didnt create the CD correctly and
it didnt load modules, but the kernel patch seems to work. Now im
downloading yesterdays daily build, Sven said me that it comes with
2.6.15-rc7, I hope it works. As soon as I test it I will update
information.

What always apears at the first line of the archive.
The OASIS spec always uses the 'store' method to pack a file called
`mimetype'. `mimetype' must have the correct MIME type.

This applies to Calc, Draw and Base documents too.

When running emacs with flymake/epylint warnings are shown just like errors.

In the epylint.py script the call to pylint is made with this message template:

This template does not produce an output containing "W" or "E", and thus the
regexp won't match and replace correctly. Changing it to:

'{path}:{line}: [{msg_id}, {obj}] {msg}'

Made it work for me.

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading from kernel 3.2 to 3.10 or 3.13, I wasn't able properly to 
capture video with my webcam nor my capture card. It happens that video is 
captured as if it's been fast-forwarded, while the audio captures at normal 
speed.

I'm using Mencoder to capture the video. What's interesting is that when using 
Mplayer to reproduce the video directly from the device (webcam or capture 
card), it does it at normal speed. So, I can't capture video using kernel 3.10 
or 3.13, but if I boot kernel 3.2, I can capture with no inconvenience.

I don't know if the bug is in the kernel itself, or in v4l, or in mencoder. But 
I think that this is more kernel-related.

Bug#635718: MooTools version conflicts with ZoneMinder package (any version).

libjs-mootools version 1.4.2 makes zoneminder version 1.25.0-1 near useless.

When zoneminder package was using mootools 1.3, libjs-mootools was 1.2.4.0.

Now, zoneminder 1.25.0-1 uses mootools 1.3.0 and libjs-mootools is 1.4.2 but
*without 1.2/1.3 compatibility*.

Reading libjs-mootools' source I see this was build from here:

The fix is simple:
Just build libjs-mootools again, with the "Include Compatibility" option 
checked on.

I don't think it's required to provide a backtrace any more. The bug
has been merged with #706330 which already has a backtrace.

But you can always launch it from the terminal:

  $ gdb gnome-settings-daemon
  (gdb) run

The tricky part here is to open a terminal when the desktop session
fails to load. You can minimise the “Oh no!” screen with a key
binding (don't know which one is the default, I customised mine).
Then you can use your system (almost) as usual and open a terminal
to run gdb and obtain the backtrace.

The upgrade from XFCE 4.8 to 4.10 came with this particular bug.

To set a simple example, let's say I have the clock at the right corner of the 
panel and a XFCE Menu Button at the left corner. Between these elements there 
is a Windows Buttons element. Running XFCE 4.8 the clock would always stay at 
the right corner of the panel. Under 4.10, the clock moves along as you open 
applications. This means that if there isn't an application opened, the clock 
is next to the XFCE Menu Button. Before the clock would always stay at the righ 
corner, and I think that's the normal behavior.

Bug#709239: laptop-mode-tools: Fail to set state on system shutdown

Dear Maintainer,
after the last laptop-mode-tool upgrade in testing I noticed that cpu
governor was not correctly set after boot (it was my kernel default, not as set
in /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/cpufreq.conf). Manually restarting laptop-mode via
invoke-rc.d restored the situation.

Now, I found out that in /usr/sbin/laptop_mode is taouched the file /var/run
/laptop-mode/enabled just because $ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_TOOLS is '1', regardless
of the fact that the script may have been called with 'stop' parameter.

Since the same file is created/removed by the init.d script I tried to comment
out the line in /usr/sbin/laptop_mode (643) and this fixed the problem for me.
I'm not sure if this could break some other usecase though.

window manager and some other services, then displays the “Oh no!
Something has gone wrong” screen. gnome-settings-daemon was not

I think this happens only when printing pdf files, or at least most of the time.
I was able to print some pages of a file, but then the printing just stopped. 
It's like cups "doesn't like" to print certain pages.

Maybe some extra information helps, like my printer is an Epson Stylus CX5600.
I use Evince-gtk package to print this files. But it also doesn't work with lp 
or other printing methods.

I have had this bug since Squeeze, and maybe Lenny. I've attached 
/var/log/cups/error_log

installed, you can't install LMMS, when actually wine-unstable (and its

The only thing left to do was to downgrade to previous version, 1.0.1-1, which

how I realize that this package in particular was causing the problem.

On a note: to share bandwidth (and to speed up things) when I travel I
change the mirror's two letter country code via an homemade script
(which geolocates the IP, or at least it tries to). So sometimes it is
ftp.es.debian.org, sometimes .it. and sometimes something else. When
it changes the system is instructed to run a sudo apt-get update to
rebuild everything. I don't know if this might be the source of the
problem, but it seems to me it shouldn't (in a perfect world, I know).

I have a similar problem with NM: it lacks PPPoE. Because it I need to use
pppoeconf:

This occurs because NM starts after networking and pppoe.

I can avoid the problem disabling NM or setting `managed=false' at
`/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf'. But if I put NM offline neither
Evolution or Empathy do connect.

Trying to rename a series of pictures, by date and time, with Thunar Bulk 
Rename. 

Typically, the hour is wrong, and the pictures end up unsorted. 

If you open the file properties, you can see that the actual time of the photo 
is correct, so Thunar Bulk Rename fails to extract the correct hour out of the 
file. 

It doesn't do with every file. Some files are incorrectly renamed.

Format used: %Y-%m-%d_%H-%M-%S_(ORIGINAL FILE NAME).JPG

Dear Maintainer,

sending a simple https get request to tomcat 7 on Debian 8 with the 
default configuration, makes the cpu jump to 100% and stay there for 
hours making the server slow.

If I restart tomcat server the cpu goes again to 1%.
No custom java applications are installed on tomcat.

Logs: Watching catalina.out I found this error message in corrispondence 
to the cpu pitch start
org.apache.coyote.http11.AbstractHttp11Processor process INFO: Error 
parsing HTTP request header


How to replicate:
- Create a Debian 8 VM Instance on Google Compute Engine
- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get upgrade
- sudo apt-get install tomcat7 apache2
- open a browser and go to https://serverip:8080 and the server cpu 
start going 100% and stay there for hours.


I'm using a fresh debian 8 default image from Google Compute Engine but 
it's possibile that the bug happens with physical machines too.


This can be a security issue because it's possible to ddos a server with 
Tomcat7 and Debian 8 simply sending https remote requests


Searching on the web, I see this bug report, maybe can be useful, maybe not:

Install the Debian backports version of Tomcat 7.0.75 solve the issue 
but it will be great if this issue can be solved on stable too.

I did some more test:
1) In a clean sid chroot
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/django/conf/project_template is a
symlink to /usr/share/python-django-common/django/conf/project_template

2) But upgrading form previous versions of django (1.8 was my real case,
but I could reproduce with 1.7 from jessie)
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/django/conf/project_template just
remain an empty directory and django-admin does not look in
/usr/share/python-django-common/django/conf/project_template.

Bug#787226: openshot: Workarounds

You can "fix" this by adding some filter to the clip. I suggest the filter
"Color Adjustment". Just by adding it, the saturation disappears, however
we shouldn't need to add a filter to fix the colors.

I've have upgraded to the latest version, and the bug is still present.

I also should mention that this does not happen on my amd64 install. It's a
different PC, though.

Dear Maintainer,

When I restart thinkfan or reboot the whole machine, thinkfan dies with the 
following message:

setfan_ibm: Error writing to /proc/acpi/ibm/fan: Invalid argument
Cleaning up and resetting fan control.

I tryed to recompile thinkfan with some more log messages in setfan_ibm() and I 
noticed that the string it tries to write to /proc/acpi/ibm/fan is unreadeable, 
while (if I got it right) should be something like "level 3".

Also when this situation appears I still can issue:
echo "level 7" > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan
as root and it works.

I have
options thinkpad_acpi fanc_control=1
in my /etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad_acpi.conf
and the demon starts and works correctly after a clean boot.

After some more tests I can't say which exact circumstances make thinkfan
work and which not; what cause it everytime is:
 1) reboot
 2) service restart (service thinkfan restart)
After a first fail even a complete shutdown does not fix it every time. The
problem seems to "vanish" after a while.

I actually spotted the problem with a simple configuration without level
adjustments, this is my conf after the first test (temp level were the
same with the simple conf).

I don't think it's purely cosmetic because people have issues with
the absolute links. I fail to see a reason why an absolute link

Update:

I've figured out what was happening. It turns out I was using 
Debian-Multimedia unofficial repository. I had a version of Mplayer 
installed which caused this bug. What I did was installed Mplayer2, from 
Debian's official repository. Of course I had to make sure I was 
installing the version available on the official repository, and not the 
version on Deb-Multimedia.

To be more 'scientific' I tried first to make thinkfan print cur_lvl
value when workign, so I patched system.c code like this:

These are all from different runs since thinkfan crashes each time
(strange charachters may look different on may terminal, but I think the
point is that cur_lvl points to sequence of bytes all messed up).

I did that and I could not see nothing unusual on my
/proc/acpi/ibm/thermal, except that one sensor (the 10th, counting from
0)  jumps up and down between 100 and -100, some sensors are always 0
and the other looks like real temperaturs; though I couldn't find out
what are all about, I just guess that 0 and 2 are my two cpu cores (This
is an i3 with 2 cores, 4 with hiperthreading).

For completeness: I'm experimenting this issue on a Thinkpad Edge 11'
dmidecode -s bios-version
86ET33WW (1.17 )

I did a bios upgrade some month ago, but this was happending before.

I'm diving now a little more into thinkfan source code (slowly, because it
is a long time I don't read C). I will see if I can spot the source of
those strange chars.

Dear Maintainer,

I am also experiencing issues with google calendar after an upgrade from 
[1:45.2.0-3] to:: (1:45.2.0-4 Debian:testing [amd64]). Reverting back to 
[1:45.2.0-3] eliminates all problems. I have also tried version [1:45.2.0-4+b1] 
in sid but the problem persists.

The problem started when some alerts from G.C. popped up on my desktop, and no 
matter how many times I pressed 'Dismiss' the alert window would not go away. I 
then closed the window with the upper right cross icon, and the alert kept 
popping up a few minutes later.

I then realized that iceowl was not synchronizing with my G.C.

So I tried unsubscribing my G.C. from iceowl in order to add back a new 
subscription. But alas, this was not possible anymore. Adding a new calendar 
got to the point when I am asked to indicate the email associated to the 
calendar, but after hitting 'next' the list of calendars was empty, and there 
was not way to finalize the subscription.

I tried to add my G.C. as an ICS calendar, using the https link provided by 
G.C. This allowed me to add the calendar, but it was non-functional (no 
entries, no synchronization, nothing).

I hope this info can help to spot some bugs.

I tried to contact the maintainer of sendmailconfig, neither a reply
nor a bounce. Does anybody here have another contact address?
I think deprecating sendmailconfig (at least for configuring the
daemon) and using a native systemd unit that starts the service directly
is the only reasonable way.

It is possible to use variables from a file in the systemd unit to
offer some configuration options for the user.

I did it on another machine (same segfault), but there is no
xscreensaver-settings in driver.

The manpage files for it were created.

Please check how network is handled. Sendmail must be started after
all networking stuff is set up. Maybe check the discussing about moving
from sysvinit startscripts to systemd, so relevant parts can be
included in the systemd unit.

How is nsswitch.conf set?
Is a caching server like systemd-resolve or dnsmasq active?
Is nscd being used?

Maybe ask in newsgroup comp.mail.sendmail how sendmail handles DNS
lookups (does it really look up the resolv.conf or does it use glibc?).

From the sendmail 4th edition:

|But even if your sendmail binary supports DNS, site configuration
|might not. If your host supports a service-switch file, for instance,
|make sure that file lists dns as the method used to fetch information
|about hosts.

For met it looks like it doesn't directly read resolv.conf, so it might
be a general DNS problem on your system.

I have a new ASUS A7M, with AMD Sempron and NVidia chipset. Audio is nVidia 
Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev 
a2) that has seen by my Debian 4.0 Etch as snd-hda-intel but it doesn't work at 
all. No audio from the speackers and no 
audio with headphones. I have also tried snd-intel-8x0, nothing.
Kernel 2.6.21.1 with alsa modules from kernel and with alsa modules from 
package alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3.tar.bz2.
I have followed https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=2587 
using all the patch available but nothing. 
No sound.I have also opened a alsa bug 
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3000 last April 5 but I 
haven't an answer from alsa people.

capable of properly handling 2-D or MMR images.

Bug#432650: Solved, works for me (now)

After my daily `aptitude update;aptitude dist-upgrade' and reboot my hard drive
is an IDE again.
Since I'm waiting for the fix I changed my `/etc/fstab' to use UUIDs and the
boot process don't hanged as before.
I think the fix come from the updated `discover1-data' package.
Today's `/var/log/aptitude' (non-C locale, sorry):
