Bug#608866: lintian: False positive: extra-license-file usr/games/rott-sitelicense

2011-01-04 Thread Fabian Greffrath
Package: lintian
Version: 2.4.3
Severity: normal

Hi,

in the pkg-games SVN repository I have modified the rott package to build an
additional variant of the game that plays the CD Site License Version data
files. The corresponding binary is 'usr/games/rott-sitelicense' and lintian
complains it has found an extra license file. Sure, the file name contains the
"license" string, but it is really just another variant of a game. Maybe
lintian should skip files in /usr/bin, /usr/games, etc. or even binary files at
all in this check.

Best Regards,
Fabian

In that case, please file a bug upstream at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg.  Choose
Driver/nouveau as Component, and let us know the bug number.

Bug#608641: debian-installer: Debian installer loses its mind when doing again the process after an error in novice mode

2011-01-04 Thread Stephane Ascoet

Christian PERRIER a écrit :

These questions don't disappear. They've been asked once already, so
the user's choice is already known by the installer.
It's actually the problem! If there is a problem, the user will likely need to set them again! It's incoherent to ask additional
questions for theses reasons, and not asking again the others ones...

This behaviour can lead to have a installed system without bootloader for
example!

Bug#608867: dynamite: Please add tool to extract custom id software archives

2011-01-04 Thread Fabian Greffrath
Package: dynamite
Version: 0.1.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi Evgeni,

please find attached a source code file by Hans de Goede (CC:ed) of Red Hat
fame. It allows for extraction of custom id software archives, which contain
some custom headers and then the actual files compressed using dynamite
compression. It was originally created for extracting the data files of
commander keen shareware (for something similar to game-data-packager under
Fedora), but it works with wolf3d's shareware .shr file too.

It just needs to get compiled and linked against -ldynamite. The file name for
the resulting binary should probably get called dynamite-shr or similar.

I can provide an NMU patch for your convenience, if you mind.

Bonus points for getting this integrated upstream. :)

Cheers,
Fabian

Thanks for that, it's really appreciated!

If the re-evaluation will include a round of private conversations
with "key people", then I think it would be fair if you would also
include the original appellers that didn't get contacted in the first
place.

I don't think that the debian-experimental branch (which i built from to
ensure consistency (and uninstallability) with debian has merged
upstream's latest changes, and upstream seems quite insistent that
upstream debugging should be done against their most bleeding edge git
repo. :(

This is probably because i only managed to file this bug after reverting

Hi Alessio,

I'm a little concerned, because last time I said yes, (for another program I
wrote, lv2file), you pointed me towards this page:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianMultimedia/Join to join the team, where it
says:

By joining the team, we expect from you that you:

   - are familiar with managing bugs in debian.
   - agree to review other's work (patches and packages).

Neither of which is the case with me. I'd really be happy to contribute as
much as I can, but I can't in good conscience "join the team" unless you
explain more.

Bug#580393: Bug #580393

2011-01-04 Thread Vincent Cheng
Package: gnote
Version: 0.7.1-1.1

I think that this bug should be merged with bug #602439 ("gnote: New upstream
version (0.7.3) available"), now that the latest upstream version of Gnote is
0.7.3.

I do not wish to advise you as to how to run your project
but it occurs to me that, because this patch has nothing
to do with the code of the installer or it's operation, that
the web pages of the translations _could_ be updated,
even after release, as the translations arrive.
Nothing would be lost to those without a translation
and something gained by the rest.

like educating me as to your policies or process.)

Bug#608871: yate: new upstream release

2011-01-04 Thread Anand Kumria
Package: yate

thanks

Hi,

A few weeks ago, Yate 3.0.0 was released. It would be appreciated if this
new version could be packaged up too. It includes a sample logrotate file
which could be adapted to fix bug #503624.

Thanks,
Anand

Bug#608094: Bug #608094

2011-01-04 Thread Vincent Cheng
Package: gnome-games
Severity: normal

There actually is such an option, but it's not readily visible. The following
command will disable the background image and should leave you with nothing
else but a black background image:

$ gconftool-2 --set /apps/quadrapassel/options/usebgimage --type bool 0

(Aside from the fact that this option could be made more visible, this isn't
really a bug, and should perhaps be closed.)

Well, it's actually a mess with two sides, the mysql RA interestingly
exposing both:

* Some upstream defaults are just horribly outdated (such as the mysql
binary defaulting to safe_mysqld, which IIRC MySQL 3.23 was the last
version to ship with). And I believe those should be fixed upstream.

* Other upstream defaults merely don't match what the specific distro
considers the default (such as, with mysql, config). Established
precedent, from SLES, is that distro packaging substitutes the "correct"
distro default.

> We could talk also with upstream about making these
> per-distro configurations made at ./configure time.

Ugh. That sounds like making things worse. No I think pretty much
everyone upstream agrees that distro specific stuff should be covered in
distro packaging.

Just my two cents.

Cheers,
Florian

No, that's not correct.
The release-notes recommend to not _use_ the x server for upgrade,
but you can have an x server running.
It is not recommended to shutdown any running x servers on the
machine!
That's not the same.
And that's what I asked for.

Shall I reopen?

It's only a few commits behind, for the very latest you need to build
libdrm from git first. It can't hurt to report anyway.

The nouveau kernel module should be loaded and log its messages long
before X starts.

Indeed, looks like X is up and running with the DRI enabled now. So what
are the current symptoms, blank monitor? Can you switch to console with
ctrl-alt-F1? If so, do you get a picture of the GNOME desktop if you
switch the monitor to the other DVI connector of the graphics card once
X is up and running?

That sounds fine to me.

That also sounds fine to me.

Perhaps you can handle the upstream side of things and I'll
handle the Debian side of things by putting Laurent's patch
into debian/patches? I can make a new upload too.

Ok, sure, I'll drop that portion of my thought on the floor right now.

Bug#608874: [cron] New behavior of returning an error if grandchild exit status not 0 is not properly advertised

2011-01-04 Thread Philippe Teuwen
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-116
Severity: minor

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
After upgrade from cron 3.0pl1-114 to 3.0pl1-116 I had the following
problem:
My log reporting system began to send me a lot of error messages from cron.

Digging down it appears that the following cron command was the culprit:

Jan  3 04:41:01 private /USR/SBIN/CRON[12126]: (www-data) CMD (if [ -d
/usr/share/webcalendar ]; then cd /usr/share/webcalendar/tools;
./send_reminders.php 2>&1 |grep -v "PHP Notice"  ; fi)
Jan 3 04:41:01 private /USR/SBIN/CRON[12125]: (CRON) error (grandchild
#12126 failed with exit status 1)

It never produced such an error before and apparently it's due to the
exit code of the last grep, usually =1 if nothing is output from
./send_reminders.php else than some PHP Notice.

I fixed it by a simple cat, just to avoid to have an exit status=1:

Jan  4 09:51:01 private /USR/SBIN/CRON[6150]: (www-data) CMD (if [ -d
/usr/share/webcalendar ]; then cd /usr/share/webcalendar/tools;
./send_reminders.php 2>&1 |grep -v "PHP Notice"|cat  ; fi)

Before I was able to fix the problem I looked into the files
NEWS.Debian.gz and changelog.gz but couldn't find a description of this
new behavior.
I think it should be documented in one of those files.
Hopefully this bugreport by itself could help other people facing the
same problem and identifying what to do.

I am sorry - I sure didn't meant to be rude or disrespectful.
My reasoning was related to the fact gbase's upstream is dead, but you're
right - there's no reason why Debian shouldn't keep with both packages...

That said, a fix to this should go to scoth then (and untag this bug from
gbase), and should be something as easy as re-renaming this particular binary
and manpage.

Any reason you don't use g_timeout_add_seconds for large timeouts? that will
cause less wakeups (so less power consumption) and I guess precision is not a
concern for such timeouts...

I've just tried kernel image 2.6.37~rc7-1~experimental.1 from experimental and
the problem is gone. /sys/class/power_supply/ACAD/online returns the correct
information.

Since it's fixed in a newer version the problem remains with 2.6.32 for
squeeze.

The change that fixed this must have come somewhere between 2.6.37-rc5 and
2.6.37-rc7
since 2.6.37-rc5 still displayed the wrong information.

Bug#605090: Updated patch

2011-01-04 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
I've put updated patches on
http://molly.corsac.net/~corsac/debian/kernel-grsec/patches/ (kernel is
built but not uploaded to packages/ since it's quite huge, will do that
at one point. Patches are attached to that mail too.

The first one (add-grsecurity-featureset) is against the debian kernel
svn tree and add the featureset, while the second (debian-grsecurity) is
against the grsecurity upstream patch and adapts it to the current
debian kernel sources (removes the stuff already backported by the
kernel team etc.).
I expect it to be really smaller for 2.6.37.

Patch and build procedure is:

  mkdir kernel-grsec
  cd kernel-grsec
  svn co svn://svn.debian.org/svn/kernel/dists/sid/linux-2.6
  cd linux-2.6
  curl

binary-arch_amd64_grsec_amd64 or the variant you need)

See the kernel handbook (http://kernel-handbook.alioth.debian.org/) for
more info, and remember to check the various stuff you download,
sha1sums for the patches are:

Bug#607368: Please decide how kernel ABI should be managed

You are correct.

I have 30 beta-testers that are affected by this issue on the
workstations they have started using for their everyday work. Although
it's still a beta phase, at this point, these workstations are to be
considered "in production" given the users have basically made the
switch now.

Full deployment involves over a thousand workstations.

> worked around by using DKMS or similar with prebuilt binaries and
> requiring exact kernel version dependencies?

DKMS is useless if the ABI number doesn't change, in its current
form. If DKMS was changed to rebuild all modules when the kernel package
is upgraded, we'd still have issues with on-disk modules not matching
the running kernel ABI until the machine is rebooted. This can sometimes
take two or three weeks if a long-running computation is running on the
machine.

We switched to DKMS to reduce the maintenance cost associated with
prebuilt binaries. We'd rather not come back to that if we can help
it. It also adds a delay to kernel updates that we'd rather avoid.

As to using strict dependencies... it makes all of the above even
worse.

And I'll ask again: what's the point of the kernel ABI number if we have
to use strict dependencies? Seriously?

We need a kernel ABI numbering we can rely on.

JB.

Bug#608881: proftpd-basic: postinstall warning about missing /var/run/proftpd dir

2011-01-04 Thread Teodor
Package: proftpd-basic
Version: 1.3.3a-5
Severity: important

Hi,

There are two warnings on first install (or reinstall):
| grep: /etc/inetd.conf: No such file or directory
| Warning: The home dir /var/run/proftpd you specified can't be accessed: No
such
|   file or directory

Note that /var/run is on tmpfs, configuration that should be supported for
squeeze:
| FilesystemTypeSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
| varrun   tmpfs2.0G  112K  2.0G   1% /var/run

I don't know yet if the home directory is used anywhere by the proftpd service,
but
the home directory should not be on the /var/run topology. The direct
consequece is
that all files from /var/run/proftpd are deleted at every system reboot.

Thanks

I think it is supposed to have it, yes, but since we don’t have the
equivalent of libdvdcss for AACS encryption, I doubt it is of any use
with a real Blu-ray disc.

This seems to be this BUG():

static void set_aliased_prot(void *v, pgprot_t prot)
{
   [...]

if (HYPERVISOR_update_va_mapping((unsigned long)v, pte, 0))
BUG();

I would expect some log on the hypervisor console (xm dmesg) which
corresponds with this hypercall failure, which would be very useful to
see..

Bug#608886: exim4-config: REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA macro setting *still* ignored

2011-01-04 Thread Rene Hertell
Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.69-9+lenny1
Severity: important

It seems that the bug is still there, even if it's marked as done in the
previous bug #514113.

/etc/exim4/config.d/transport/30_exim4-config_remote_smtp
contains this clause:

.ifdef REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_FROM_DNS
 helo_data=REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA
.endif

and the file
/etc/exim4/config.d/transport/10_exim4-config_transport-macros
contains

.ifdef REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_FROM_DNS
 REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA=${lookup dnsdb
{ptr=$sending_ip_address}{$value}{$primary_hostname}}
.endif

Because of this, there is now way i could specify a REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA =
mail.foo.bar without messing around with the original
transport-macro..

To get a custom value into REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA there is needed an other logic
in setting this value.. This following caluse in
/etc/exim4/config.d/transport/30_exim4-config_remote_smtp would let me set a
custom value to REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA

.ifdef REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA
 helo_data=REMOTE_SMTP_HELO_DATA
.endif

Bug#608887: release-notes: Debian Documentation and Debian Wiki in Chapter 6

2011-01-04 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: release-notes
Severity: normal

In Chapter 6. More information on Debian GNU/Linux, I have few touch up
requests.

DDP was mentioned but its link is pointed to
 http://www.debian.org/doc/ddp (not the best page for us).

As I recall, DDP web pages were reorganized some time ago and this
particular page is more of historic place holder with half the page
talking "Problematic manuals". We should use instead the following for
the entry point for the DDP and other key documentations:
 http://www.debian.org/doc/

Contributor of DDP should be more happy to see
 http://www.debian.org/doc/cvs

In order to switch all translation in any state to be updated, I request
to change release-notes.ent content for url-ddp. This is used twice in
the whole document and switching from .../doc/ddp to .../doc/ is better.

Also Debian Wiki has grown to be an important documentation resource for
the user which needs to be mentioned. (although .../doc page mention it.)
(Since debian-www is used by Wiki people, I CC my bug report there.)

Since Debian Wiki is not just for DebianIRC, I wish its reference to be
tuned in the same chapter.

I summary, I propose attached patch.

I'm not sure if I should use "cmsms" (which the developers of the
software seem to use quite often themselves) or cmsmadesimple for the
package name, I'd welcome suggestions on this.

"CMS Made Simple" is licensed under GPLv2. It uses a couple of other
libraries that are license under either LGPL or AL.

Consider the point when we are at aptitude's prompt:
# aptitude full-upgrade
No packages will be installed, upgraded, or removed.
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B of archives. After unpacking 0 B will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n/?]

If we answer n, we return to the shell right away.
If we answer y, we answer to the shell after a painful grinding of
computing something that is one big no-op... Why not just detect there
is nothing to do and act like we answered n. In fact why prompt at all?
OK. In my preferences I set Always Prompt... anyway, at least bail out
fast for Y just like for n when there is nothing to do.

like i said, we'll handle that as once squeeze is released. for the time
being, either do not use 3.x *experimental* branch and stick with 2.x,
or include your own templates as already said earlier.

experimental is a debian branch which has the name 'experimental' on
purpose.

This bug isn't about switching to a UTF-8 locale, but about upgrading
the 'locales' package before the rest of the system.

Note that this bug renders UTF-8 inoperative, just as well as the language
part. So promoting UTF-8 won't help here (even though I agree that dropping
support on the old junk is long overdue).

> So we should think this request is already addressed at the right level,

This is not the same issue as the one addressed.

A.3 tells people to switch their locale, but doesn't warn them that in order
to have it working during the upgrade (including translations), they need to
take special steps.

I agree.

By the way, many new configuration files under apt.conf.d preferences.d
sources.list.d trusted.gpg.d under /etc/apt/ are new for squeeze as I
understand.

We may need to adjust text reflecting these new *.d configuration files.

Well, I already pasted the radeon-kms.conf. I had no xorg.conf for the
initial tests, but I do have an xorg.conf now, because I've been
configuring the synaptics input device and a created an xorg.conf for that.
I could try moving it away and checking if it works or fails. Will get
back about this.

No, the kernel is the same.

Re-installing that machine is not really possible. But it's a really
nice model, and I think I might be getting hold of another one soon.

Uploading now. I'd appreciate confirmation from affected folks that
this is enough to make things boot. If it is, we can perhaps avoid
worrying about the rest; otherwise, we'll have to get more creative.

Can you not merge these in future? There have been multiple causes for
this issue in the past.

Bug#608892: proftpd-basic: should add proftpd and ftp users with their own unique group

2011-01-04 Thread Teodor
Package: proftpd-basic
Version: 1.3.3a-5
Severity: normal

Hi,

The postinstall scripts creates the users with the 'nogroup' group:
| Adding new user `proftpd' (UID 111) with group `nogroup' ...
| Not creating home directory `/var/run/proftpd'.
| Adding system user `ftp' (UID 112) ...
| Adding new user `ftp' (UID 112) with group `nogroup' ...

I don't think 'nogroup' was meant to be used by system services (apache is not
run
by user nobody:nogroup but by www-data:www-data). Please configure the proftpd
and
ftp users with their own private group with the same name.
('proftpd' is used by the server but 'ftp' seems to have no use by default).

Thanks

Please edit /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib to insert a line containing
just 'set -x' near the top, and then run update-grub again and send us
the output. (You should revert the change to
/usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib afterwards.)

Bug#608672: Fixed logrotate

2011-01-04 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
tags 608672 + patch
thanks

Hi!

A fixed logrotate file is attached.
There is no need in sourcing /etc/denyhosts.conf nor sorting
/etc/hosts.deny (do a "sort -u /etc/hosts.deny" to see how it mess
with the file content and doesn't properly sort the IP numbers).

Best regards,
Nelson

Jup. Saw it.

It's just that I don't consider this a bug but a missing feature. So I
would have a look at it anyway.

Some time ago we already had a fix in this direction. I'm currently
thing about if we can get dnet-common to support installing in
unconfigured mode (we allready support to deconfigure it, just by rm-ing
the config file after install).

Will have a look at it within the next days, don't know how much work it
will be.

Are there any plans to request unblock of ices2 2.0.1-9 for squeeze?

Currently I cannot access that machine because of public holidays. The
problem about this request is that during last test the machine crashed
and automatically rebooted. We will try again one ot these days,
hopefully before tomorrow.

And about #605632, denyhosts should handle by itself any case of
duplicated hosts. It must not add a host again to /etc/hosts.deny if
it's already blocked.

Handling it in the logrotate script will need a more complex system to
sort /etc/hosts.deny (it should not mess with the comments (like "sort
-u" does right now), for example).

2011-01-04 Thread Steven Sciame
Package: epiphany-browser
Version: 2.22.3-9

Justification: renders package unusable

Upon startup, epiphany browser asks if I would like to recover crashed

crashes. This seemed to start happening after updating yesterday so I
suspect that might have something to do with it.
I tried to adduser to my system, but the browser crashed in the new user

Actions needed to fix this on we page is to edit following file (I am
not webwml expert)
CVS/debian/webwml/english/releases/squeeze/release.data.

It has:

%arches = (
i386=> 'Intel x86',
sparc   => 'SPARC',
#   alpha   => 'Alpha',
powerpc => 'PowerPC',
amd64   => 'AMD64',
#   arm => 'ARM',
armel   => 'EABI ARM',
hppa=> 'HP PA-RISC',
ia64=> 'Intel IA-64',
mips=> 'MIPS (big endian)',
mipsel  => 'MIPS (little endian)',
s390=> 'IBM S/390',
);

This needs to be changed and reordered to:

# order are from http://popcon.debian.org/
# Thus vender neutral :-)
%arches = (
i386=> '32-bit PC (i386)',
amd64   => '64-bit PC (amd64)',
armel   => 'EABI ARM (armel)',
powerpc => 'PowerPC (powerpc)',
sparc   => 'SPARC (sparc)',
#   arm => 'ARM (arm)',
ia64=> 'Intel IA-64 (ia64)',
hppa=> 'HP PA-RISC (hppa)',
#   alpha   => 'Alpha (alpha)',
mipsel => 'MIPS (little endian) (mipsel)',
s390=> 'IBM S/390 (s390)',
mips=> 'MIPS (big endian) (mipsel)',
);

This order is the current popcon data order:
http://popcon.debian.org/
So we will not ask user to look through long list.

I hope this fixes non-optimal order and word issue on Debian web page
technically. But we first agree on what wording are we using.

I like nonpedantic 32-bit PC/64-bit PC.

"EABI ARM" may be better to use "ARM (armel)" since we are not shipping
old arm any more.

It is not used as such, but it is also the only appropriate directory, because
it has to exist at run-time after init script execution. A /var/run
subdir is equally used by many other services as standard home, so I
think this part of the report is not appropriate.

Bug#608898: piuparts: should support testing a package from the archive and a local version

2011-01-04 Thread Holger Levsen
package: piuparts
severity: wishlist

Hi,

 i want to be able to do: piuparts -d lenny -d squeeze -d sid -a
piuparts -finally piuparts_0.39_all.deb
 atm i have to run piuparts twice and wait til 0.39 is in sid

This is because one has to either supply (a) .changes file(s), or .deb(s) or
package names retrievable by apt.

I would like to be able to test a non-uploaded packages upgradability before
it hits the archive with one piuparts run, the above should first install
piuparts in lenny, then upgrade to squeeze, then upgrade to sid, then install
the local package.

cheers,
Holger

This is not strictly true. All kernels which used to support sd* still
do. sd* support was never present in the pvops kernel, so it cannot have
been removed.

That's good.

 Be aware that, if you run a pvops kernel for your domU, like the Xen kernel
 2.6.32 of Squeeze, your domU won't be able to use (for example) sda1 as a
-device name for its hard drive. This naming scheme has been removed from Xen
-upon request of the mainline kernel maintainers. Instead you should use (as
+device name for its hard drive. This naming scheme is not available in the Xen
+pvops support available in the upstream Linux kernel. Instead you should use
(as
 a corresponding example) xvda1, which will always work, including when running
 Lenny 2.6.26 forward ported Xen patch.

2011-01-04 Thread Braun Gábor
Package: xz-utils

Severity: minor

In the Hungarian package description please correct the following typos:

replace 'tarttalmaz' with 'tartalmaz' in the sentence just before the
feature list (a 't' is erronously doubled),

replace 'flimseri' with 'felismeri' in the first feature.

Thanks.
