At the time I reported the bug, emacs-snapshot was an official package.
I only mentioned the above to show that the changelogs of the now
unofficial emacs-snapshot package also cover the old case.

No, which is part of the problem :) and the reason I didn't reopen the
bug.

Anyway, if it pops again, I'll come back.

Thanks for caring.

And there is mimeinfo.cache after thunar removal.

Bug#488887: licq in stable can't login - resolution suggestion

2008-07-02 Thread Goldie Goldie
hello!

the reason for no login is not protocol change but
server reject. its description can be found at
http://www.licq.org/ticket/1637

generally the best for etch will be to have a
"security" update pushed down the Debian
infrastructure in order to have the client version
changed. same could be done for lenny and sid.

Bug#459235: It may have to do with seahorse

2008-07-02 Thread Paul Sundvall
Hi, I encounter the same problem and could not solve it with the
suggestions in this bug report. However, it seems like seahorse is used:
gpg is invoked with --use-agent from within enigmail, and the man page
says it looks in the environment variable GPG_AGENT_INFO. On my system,
it is set to
$ echo $GPG_AGENT_INFO
/tmp/seahorse-iiTyst/S.gpg-agent:4032:1

I then opened seahorse, and there is an option under menu (translating
from Swedish now, may be inaccurate) edit/settings/pgp pass phrases
where "never remember any passphrases" was checked. Changing it to
"remember in 300 minutes" solved the problem in icedove/enigmail.

We're discussing in the context of Debian bug #488271 right now. That is,
the discussion is whether we need a proposed rootdelay patch in Debian's
version of cryptsetup or not...

I completely agree with this approach. In fact I proposed it to Marco
d'Itri (Debian's udev maintainer) in April 2007 and pushed a testing
branch to the initramfs-tools git repo at about the same time.
Unfortunately it was rejected by the udev maintainer. I should probably
raise that proposal again when I have time...

Anyway, we're going offtopic.

Hi Guillaume,

You've commented on an old bug with an entirely different stack trace.
Open a new bug in future, because we could always merge it; splitting
this one apart would be more difficult.

Having said that, your problem should be fixed in f-spot 0.4.4-1,
recently uploaded to Debian unstable - we turned off beagle support. It
will be a few days before it reaches testing.

Bug#488821: apache2-suexec: suexec configuration change demands extensive system changes

apache2.2-common suggests apache2-suexec. A recommends would not be
appropriate because the point of the separate package is that it is
not installed by default (and apt pulls in recommended packages by
default). But I would recommend you to install apt-listchanges. It
will display relevant sections of NEWS.Debian during upgrades.

Users like sshd and mysql have no fixed uid but are guaranteed to be
in the low 100s range. Those are the users I wanted to disallow.

Many of the suexec restrictions are in there to guard against bugs in
suexec. For example, there has been a race condition in suexec that
could be used to circumvent the owner checks in some obscure
circumstances. Similar or worse issues can happen again. But maybe
the gain is not large enough to warrant disrupting many system
configurations. I will change it back for now. Maybe the
apache2-suexec-custom could be extended to make the minimum uid
configurable. Then the standard suexec could be changed to min uid
1000. But this will not happen in time for lenny.

> you. At least be kind enough to your users to announce in
> NEWS.Debian that you might be about to break their system. :)

The min user id change was announced in NEWS.Debian, just like the
move to a separate package.

Cheers,
Stefan

Closing since this problem should be fixed doing this:

On Thu, Mar 20, 2008 at 03:51:36PM -0400, Matthew Rosewarne wrote:

I've seen this detail trip up plenty of people before, and something will have
to be done about it.

Firstly a hidden requirement to add users to a particular group merely
to use a normal desktop system is not reasonable behavior.

Secondly part of the bug report is that the error message is completely
incomprehensible. I don't see any indication that this has been improved.

Therefore I'm reopening this bug report.

Thank you for reporting this bug.

I suspect the bug is specific to the 'urwid' UI selection. Can you
please confirm whether selecting a different UI (e.g. by using
'reportbug --ui text').

If you still get the crash using a different UI selection, please
report that traceback also to this bug report.

Bug#488932: xserver-xorg-video-vesa: xf86GTFMode implicitly converted to pointer

2008-07-02 Thread dann frazier
Package: xserver-xorg-video-vesa
Version: 1:2.0.0-1
Severity: serious
Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

Function `xf86GTFMode' implicitly converted to pointer at ../../src/vesa.c:345

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

It looks like this function is available in xserver-xorg-dev from
experimental, but not sid. Maybe this needs to be a versioned build-dep?

Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain
architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed
(e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug
does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting
in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity.

Bug#488931: RFA: mp3splt -- Splits MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files without reencoding

2008-07-02 Thread Francois Marier
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the mp3splt package.

The package is in a good shape and will have a new upstream release soon that
should fix most of the forwarded bugs.

The package description is:
Mp3Splt is a command line utility to split MP3 (VBR supported) and Ogg Vorbis
files into smaller files without decoding. Useful for splitting albums, either
manually, using freedb.org data, or .cue files and for splitting based on
length or on periods of silence in the file.
 .
Can easily extract files created with Mp3Wrap (from the mp3wrap package) or
 the AlbumWrap format (http://www.infamus.com/albumwrap/).

Bug#488935: audacious: add internet address replaces the current playlist

2008-07-02 Thread Evgeni Golov
Package: audacious
Version: 1.5.1-1

Subject says it all :)
When I have songs in my playlist (which is kinda common for an audio
player) and click "add internet address", I get a playlist containing
only the stream I added (it does not care if I add a pure stream
http://site/stream.ogg or a playlist http://site/list.pls).
I think it should behave the same as when I add regular files (or
playlists): just append them at the end of the list.

Evgeni

After thunar removal you're saying that there is still a .desktop file
with a MimeType=x-directory/gnome-default-handler in
/usr/share/applications?

Could you grep for that?

Make sure you dont have anything left from thunar. If you don't, I guess
it's a problem in update-desktop-database but I would find that quite
weird.

I had a look at the code, and I agree that this message should be more
clear. I have changed the code for the next version to display something
like the following in the first case:

Master link "/etc/alternatives/desktop-background" points to alternative
"/usr/share/images/desktop-base/Debian.jpg", but no such alternative is
 registered, according to "/var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/desktop-background".
 See "update-alternatives --display desktop-background"

> Maybe it should also print a message saying what is to blame, and what to do:
> File a bug against xxx that is is missing yyy...

I'm without broadband at the time I'm writing this, so my best guess is
that:
 - you had desktop-base installed, which set up one of its files,
/usr/share/images/desktop-base/Debian.jpg as the only alternative for
   desktop-background
 - then you uninstalled desktop-base, and it either failed to unregister
properly (a bug in desktop-base), or this is just how
update-alternatives behaves in such case (a bug in dpkg).

It could also be a more complex interaction involving another package
providing this alternative.

To figure out how you got into this situation, you could do:

ls -l /etc/alternatives/desktop-background
find /usr/share -type l -ls | grep desktop-background
dpkg -l desktop-base
look for dekstop-base in aptitude's and/or dpkg log

I will try to look into it further when I get to an internet connection.

Bug#488885: aqbanking-tools: Upgrade woes

2008-07-02 Thread Micha Lenk
Hi Christoph,

thank you for your valuable feedback. Mostly every problem you
discovered is a documentation issue. I'll see whether I can fix them all
properly.

Upstream decided to drop the command line interface aqbanking-tool. If
you really need a command line interface he provides one called
aqbanking-cli under a commercial license not suitable for Debian. If you
want to stick with the old aqbanking-tool linked against the old
AqBanking 2.x you should downgrade the previous package aqbanking-tool
again and set it on hold to prevent further updates. The new package
aqbanking-tools can be installed in parallel without interference.

Yes, this needs to be fixed.

The command addmedium does not exist anymore because the medium layer
does not exist within AqBanking anymore. Unfortunately the README didn't
get updated together with these major changes.

Another source of help you should know about is the AqBanking manual:
http://www.aquamaniac.de/sites/download/packages.php?package=06&showall=1
It is not included in the package because it has no clear license. In
chapter 5.2.2.2 you can find the command how to create a new PIN/TAN
user on the command line (you don't need "aqhbci-tool addmedium" anymore).

Regards
  Micha

UUID=52978f9a52:9540e417:e3565b0a:1da235 name=bluebottle:2

The above is a diff between two versions of mdadm.conf. The presence
of "metadata=1" results in mkinitramfs producing an image that won't boot.
Removing that (while leaving the "name=" section) results in making an
initramfs that works.

Also note that I didn't use knoppix or any other distribution for this. I
created the software RAID-1 with Debian/Etch and chose the latest metadata
format. See below for more details about my RAIDs.

Bug#448242: [SOLVED] by tuning vdr

2008-07-02 Thread Dominique Dumont

Hello

With vdr 1.4.7 I can tune the pixel width of the OSD. By narrowing it
to less than 544 pixel, I can have usable menus.

On the other hand, the menus are rather ugly when viewed with a
720x576 video. Too bad that vdr is not able to change the width of
the OSD depending on the video resolution.

So you can close this bug.

All the best.

Bug#488937: acpi-support: Incorrect D-BUS HAL call in dbus-hal suspend method

2008-07-02 Thread Austin Clements
Package: acpi-support
Version: 0.109-5
Severity: important
Tags: patch

The implementation of the dbus-hal suspend method in the
/usr/share/acpi-support/suspendorhibernate script is incorrect. I've
attached a patch which fixes a number of issues with the
implementation:

 * Currently, it calls the DBUS wrong method and thus reliably fails.
 * stderr was dup'd on to stdout using "2&>1" instead of "2>&1", which
was passing '2' as an additional argument and redirecting the
output to a file called '1' instead of the intended effect.
 * The current check for a DBUS error is fragile, since it uses 'grep
-v' instead of negating the whole condition (that is, currently it
checks if all output lines are not DBUS errors instead of checking
that no output lines are DBUS errors, though these appear to be
equivalent in the current implementation of dbus-send).

I also made the latter two fixes to the dbus-pm method, though I can't
vouch for the correctness of the method being called in that case.

Bug#488813: [Pkg-gridengine-devel] Bug#488813: gridengine - FTBFS: Unsupported architecture UNSUPPORTED-lx26-s390

2008-07-02 Thread Mark Hymers

thanks

As you'd have spotted if you'd looked at the architecture lines for the
binary packages, gridengine currently doesn't support s390.

Architecture: i386 amd64 sparc powerpc ia64

I intend to try and get ports to more architectures working soon, but
given that we declare which architectures we currently support, this
certainly isn't a serious bug. Also, it really isn't my problem that
wanna build decides that it knows better than maintainers about which
architectures to build on.

You were right.

As I see thunar-data package still installed.

So why .desktop files in /usr/share/applications/ remove only if I
remove thunar-data package.

If
#sudo aptitude remove --purge thunar thunar-data libthunar-vfs-1-2
then everything is OK.

Okay, I can't see any big difference between your installed gtk- and
python-packages and my ones.
As you worte above you can't reproduce the bug using gnome, so I'm quite
sure the problem is not within system-config-lvm.

I'll wait for some time, if nobody can reproduce this bug until then I
will close the bugreport afterwards.

I've confirmed this for the 'urwid' UI selection only; the (default)
'text' interface does not have this issue. Accordingly, I'm
downgrading the severity to "important".

The above still applies. I couldn't reproduce the bug without choosing
'urwid' UI, but if you do, please report the traceback.

Meanwhile, this bug will be addressed for 'urwid' UI only.

I am actually interested, but ftp-masters rejected my package about
1.5 years ago because they consider it to tiny (it is just a init
script). However that package is as tiny as important, it is a
must-have in Linux audio systems using realtime kernels (it sets the
correct priority to the IRQ-thread of the soundcard).

Do you think I should try to re-upload it motivating the need of the
package? Or try to find another package able to "host" the script? (I
would personally prefer the latter, I don't see problems in tiny
packages, there are a lot of dummy ones around after all)

Ciao,

Hello Benoit!

Is the git/cares2 problem something PPC-specific? I can't reproduce it
on my amd64 installation atleast. Can you think of something else that
might make this problem appear for you?
Could you do ldd /usr/bin/git to check if your binary is linked to
c-ares?

Git doesn't seem to have any dependencies or build-dependencies on any
c-ares version.

Bug#488941: python-gmpy: Please upload gmpy 1.03 (patch attached)

2008-07-02 Thread Ondrej Certik
Package: python-gmpy
Version: 1.02~1.dfsg.1-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

I packaged the new upstream release, the package builds, it's lintian clean.
The patch is attached. I also added myself to uploaders and the DM upload
field. Feel free to remove it if you disagree. I also imported the package to
the DPMT repositories. Let me know if you are against maintaining it in there
and I'll remove it. However, I strongly suggest you are not against :), as it
is much easier to maintain it in DPMT, as anyone can easily fix the package and
if you stay as the maintainer, you will need to approve all changes in the end
and you will have to upload it.

Let me know if you have any questions to the patch and also let me
know if you are busy but otherwise agree with the patch,
I'll ask some other DD to upload the package.

Thanks a lot,
Ondrej

Hi, thanks for reporting,

The problem here is that after original selection is removed, symlinks are
going to be set to the new value, but at that time new selected package is
not yet even unpacked, so is not possible. However, on pre-configuration
everything is shown (even the to-be-removed value), because
preconfiguration is done after all the old+new debconf templates files.

I am thinking about a way to defer symlinks setting during package removal
to new-to-be-installed package postinst when a new ispell dict or wordlist
is to be installed in the same run. This should deal with this bug report,
if working.

In the meantime I am reassigning your bug report to dictionaries-common,
where the mentioned changes should happen.

Cheers,

This means that for many laptop owner in medium sized companies, where
external LCD are bigger but with lower resolution the default behavior
(meaning without preferred mode settings) is barelly unacceptable and
there is no way to have a single xorg.conf file that work correctly for
docked and undocked case (I can limit the LVDS resolution by default in
xorg.conf but will then have to manually change it when undocking or use
acpi events).

As I can use xrandr to dynamically reprogram things without restarting
X, this is acceptable but is a change compared to previous behavior.

Again thanks for your time and patience.

I've done that, since I'm also seeing this in the latest unstable
version. BTW, you already had reported it as #401019.

The workaround is to edit ~/.kde/share/config/kio_httprc and add a line
with

Languages=de;q=1.0, en;q=0.5

or similar to give German a higher priority than English. Not exactly
userfriendly, and the preferred language should really be taken from the
locale settings. :-/

It works for me. Maybe you need to restart konqueror and/or clear the
web cache to let this setting take effect.

Bug#488937: acpi-support: Incorrect D-BUS HAL call in dbus-hal suspend method

2008-07-02 Thread Bart Samwel

Hi Austin,

Austin Clements wrote:

The implementation of the dbus-hal suspend method in the
/usr/share/acpi-support/suspendorhibernate script is incorrect. I've
attached a patch which fixes a number of issues with the
implementation:

 * Currently, it calls the DBUS wrong method and thus reliably fails.

Ah, that means I read the docs incorrectly. Thanks for correcting me!

 * stderr was dup'd on to stdout using "2&>1" instead of "2>&1", which
was passing '2' as an additional argument and redirecting the
output to a file called '1' instead of the intended effect.

Youch, that's a nasty one!

Sounds more robust indeed.

I also made the latter two fixes to the dbus-pm method, though I can't
vouch for the correctness of the method being called in that case.

Thanks very much for fixing this up. I'll include the fixes in the next
upload.

Cheers,
Bart

Pressing the power button produces two acpi events most of the time.
This makes using the event for something like hibernate quite
difficult.

I do not see any particular pattern in the behaviour. Pressing the
power button usually produces two events but sometimes only one is
produced.

please try out 2.6.26-rc8 trunk linux image
see apt lines -> http://wiki.debian.org/DebianKernel

2.6.25-6 produces one event most of the time, 2.6.26-rc8 produces two
events always for me.

Thanks

There was no output in the terminal (kfind) and no specific output in
the .xsession-errors -file (xfce4-panel).
I'll try to install some kde-dbg-packages but I don't know if it'll help
(give some useful output).

it is running in a vmware esx 3.0.1 environment with a Sun STK 6140
storage array.

During a disk change the following error is logged by the kernel:

sdc: Current: sense key: Recovered Error
<> ASC=0xe0 ASCQ=0x6ASC=0xe0 ASCQ=0x6
EXT3-fs error (device sdc1): ext3_free_blocks_sb: bit already
cleared for block 75569857
Remounting filesystem read-only

I have to reboot and fsck the partition.

Recovered Errors sounds like - there was an error, but the storage
recovered it, by itself - so wy the ext3 failure occured?

The same issue happend on a ubuntu 6.06 lts ( Kernel 2.6.16 ).

All debian sarge with kernel 2.4.27 survived the scsi error.

Is there a setting, to tell the kernel to retry the read or write
operation?

Regards,

Konrad

Bug#488949: libsvn1 - needs shlibs bump

2008-07-02 Thread Bastian Blank
Package: subversion

Severity: serious

libsvn1 needs a shlibs bump. It still uses "libsvn1 (>= 1.4)" but 1.5
have new symbols: e.g. svn_cstring_casecmp.

Bug#488950: laptop-mode: fails with some extravesrion strings

2008-07-02 Thread Hramrach
Package: laptop-mode-tools
Version: 1.42-1
Severity: normal
File: laptop-mode

I get an error with extraversion that starts with + both on startup and
shutdown. The linux version is like

/usr/share/laptop-mode-tools/modules/laptop-mode: line 125: [:
25+acpitz: integer expression expected

Applying the same extraversion to 2.6.26-rc8 works. Note that + is valid
version character in most cases.

Bug#488951: libopenal-dev: problems when no soundcard found

2008-07-02 Thread Sébastien MARQUE

Package: libopenal-dev
Version: 1:1.3.253-5
Severity: important

I compile FlightGear CVS, libopenal (libopenal-dev) is one of its
dependances. I have not yet succeed to configure my soundcard, so I
haven't the luck to get the sound working.
Until now, when launching FlightGear, I get errors about ALSA and
AL, but it worked fine. Then this morning seeing a new libopenal-dev
version being installed, I recompiled FlightGear CVS, and then it can't
be launched anymore, I get these messages before the program exits:

Bug#488895: please move to main

2008-07-02 Thread Jan-Pascal van Best
> As far as I can (publically) see the need for contrib arises because it
> uses libdb-je-java.
The main reason is that lucene2 fails a number of unit tests when running
with java-gcj-compat, e.g. for the indexing of dates. See bug #468334.
This has been deemed serious enough to put lucene2 into contrib.

What I thinks needs to be done is look into the unit test failures more
closely, try to isolate java-gcj-compat bugs (or at least
incompatibilities with sun-java5/6) and try to have those bugs resolved.
Unfortunately, that will be quite a bit of work which I don't have time
for now.

I'm a bit reluctant to move lucene2 into main while we know it doesn't
work properly with java-gcj-compat, but I'll let Michael overrule me...

Cheers

Jan-Pascal

Why won't it boot? Is /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf in the initramfs
correct? Does /conf/md.conf look alright?

Does it boot if you add break=mount to the kernel command line and
remove the metadata=1 from /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf in the initramfs
before exiting the shell to continue?

I don't think it'll output anything. What I think is that kfind hides
itself from task list because it doesn't need to be there. Maybe there
is an option to configure that? Does it appear in alt-tab? Does it
appear in kde task list?

Task lists, alttab, windows list etc. will only show window which have
some defined properties. Can you use xprop to get all properties of
kfind window and attach it to this BR?
