At the time I reported the bug, emacs-snapshot was an official package. I only mentioned the above to show that the changelogs of the now unofficial emacs-snapshot package also cover the old case. > Anyhow, are you still able to reporduce this bug? Bug#459235: It may have to do with seahorse
Hi, I encounter the same problem and could not solve it with the suggestions in this bug report. However, it seems like seahorse is used: gpg is invoked with --use-agent from within enigmail, and the man page says it looks in the environment variable GPG_AGENT_INFO. On my system, it is set to $ echo $GPG_AGENT_INFO /tmp/seahorse-iiTyst/S.gpg-agent:4032:1 I then opened seahorse, and there is an option under menu (translating from Swedish now, may be inaccurate) edit/settings/pgp pass phrases where "never remember any passphrases" was checked. Changing it to "remember in 300 minutes" solved the problem in icedove/enigmail. paul -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

We're discussing in the context of Debian bug #488271 right now. I completely agree with this approach. In fact I proposed it to Marco d'Itri (Debian's udev maintainer) in April 2007 and pushed a testing branch to the initramfs-tools git repo at about the same time. Unfortunately it was rejected by the udev maintainer. I should probably raise that proposal again when I have time... Bug#488821: apache2-suexec: suexec configuration change demands extensive system changes
Hi Michael, On Wednesday 02 July 2008, Michael Alan Dorman wrote: > First, I would like to apologize for my rather terse initial > message---it took me a while to figure out that I needed to install > a new package (perhaps it warrants a recommends or at least > suggests, so it shows up somewhere?), and then once it was > installed, a while longer to figure out why that didn't help. apache2.2-common suggests apache2-suexec. A recommends would not be appropriate because the point of the separate package is that it is not installed by default (and apt pulls in recommended packages by default). But I would recommend you to install apt-listchanges. It will display relevant sections of NEWS.Debian during upgrades. > Second, I would like to thank you for your effort in maintaining > apache---it's an important piece of software that I suspect only > earns you annoying messages like this when it breaks, and precious > little thanks when it "just works". Users like sshd and mysql have no fixed uid but are guaranteed to be in the low 100s range. Those are the users I wanted to disallow. > Finally, when one considers the *many other* constraints on > suexec---the executable must in in a particular location, it must > be owned by the user in question, etc---I think your assertion that > there are gains in security as a result this change in an arbitrary > lower bound is questionable. Many of the suexec restrictions are in there to guard against bugs in suexec. For example, there has been a race condition in suexec that could be used to circumvent the owner checks in some obscure circumstances. Similar or worse issues can happen again. But maybe the gain is not large enough to warrant disrupting many system configurations. I will change it back for now. Maybe the apache2-suexec-custom could be extended to make the minimum uid configurable. Then the standard suexec could be changed to min uid 1000. But this will not happen in time for lenny. > you. At least be kind enough to your users to announce in > NEWS.Debian that you might be about to break their system. :) The min user id change was announced in NEWS.Debian, just like the move to a separate package. Bug#488932: xserver-xorg-video-vesa: xf86GTFMode implicitly converted to pointer
Package: xserver-xorg-video-vesa Version: 1:2.0.0-1 Severity: serious Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64. Function `xf86GTFMode' implicitly converted to pointer at ../../src/vesa.c:345 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. It looks like this function is available in xserver-xorg-dev from experimental, but not sid. Maybe this needs to be a versioned build-dep? Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed (e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity. See "update-alternatives --display desktop-background" > Maybe it should also print a message saying what is to blame, and what to do: > File a bug against xxx that is is missing yyy... I'm without broadband at the time I'm writing this, so my best guess is that: - you had desktop-base installed, which set up one of its files, /usr/share/images/desktop-base/Debian.jpg as the only alternative for desktop-background - then you uninstalled desktop-base, and it either failed to unregister properly (a bug in desktop-base), or this is just how update-alternatives behaves in such case (a bug in dpkg). It could also be a more complex interaction involving another package providing this alternative. To figure out how you got into this situation, you could do: ls -l /etc/alternatives/desktop-background find /usr/share -type l -ls | grep desktop-background dpkg -l desktop-base look for dekstop-base in aptitude's and/or dpkg log I will try to look into it further when I get to an internet connection. -- Marcin Owsiany <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://marcin.owsiany.pl/ GnuPG: 1024D/60F41216 FE67 DA2D 0ACA FC5E 3F75 D6F6 3A0D 8AA0 60F4 1216 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#488885: aqbanking-tools: Upgrade woes
Hi Christoph, thank you for your valuable feedback. Mostly every problem you discovered is a documentation issue. I'll see whether I can fix them all properly. If you really need a command line interface he provides one called aqbanking-cli under a commercial license not suitable for Debian. If you want to stick with the old aqbanking-tool linked against the old AqBanking 2.x you should downgrade the previous package aqbanking-tool again and set it on hold to prevent further updates. The command addmedium does not exist anymore because the medium layer does not exist within AqBanking anymore. Unfortunately the README didn't get updated together with these major changes. Another source of help you should know about is the AqBanking manual: http://www.aquamaniac.de/sites/download/packages.php?package=06&showall=1 It is not included in the package because it has no clear license. In chapter 5.2.2.2 you can find the command how to create a new PIN/TAN user on the command line (you don't need "aqhbci-tool addmedium" anymore). Bug#485989: I can reproduce this
/etc/mdadm# diff mdadm.conf mdadm.conf.broken 21c21 < ARRAY /dev/md2 level=raid1 num-devices=2 UUID=52978f9a52:9540e417:e3565b0a:1da235 name=bluebottle:2 --- > ARRAY /dev/md2 level=raid1 metadata=1 num-devices=2 UUID=52978f9a52:9540e417:e3565b0a:1da235 name=bluebottle:2 The above is a diff between two versions of mdadm.conf. The presence of "metadata=1" results in mkinitramfs producing an image that won't boot. Removing that (while leaving the "name=" section) results in making an initramfs that works. Also note that I didn't use knoppix or any other distribution for this. I created the software RAID-1 with Debian/Etch and chose the latest metadata format. Hello With vdr 1.4.7 I can tune the pixel width of the OSD. By narrowing it to less than 544 pixel, I can have usable menus. Bug#488937: acpi-support: Incorrect D-BUS HAL call in dbus-hal suspend method
Package: acpi-support Version: 0.109-5 Severity: important Tags: patch The implementation of the dbus-hal suspend method in the /usr/share/acpi-support/suspendorhibernate script is incorrect. I've attached a patch which fixes a number of issues with the implementation: * Currently, it calls the DBUS wrong method and thus reliably fails. * stderr was dup'd on to stdout using "2&>1" instead of "2>&1", which was passing '2' as an additional argument and redirecting the output to a file called '1' instead of the intended effect. * The current check for a DBUS error is fragile, since it uses 'grep -v' instead of negating the whole condition (that is, currently it checks if all output lines are not DBUS errors instead of checking that no output lines are DBUS errors, though these appear to be equivalent in the current implementation of dbus-send). I also made the latter two fixes to the dbus-pm method, though I can't vouch for the correctness of the method being called in that case. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages acpi-support depends on: ii acpi-support-base 0.109-5scripts for handling base ACPI eve ii acpid 1.0.6-10 Utilities for using ACPI power man ii dmidecode 2.9-1 Dump Desktop Management Interface ii finger0.17-12user information lookup program ii hdparm8.8-1 tune hard disk parameters for high ii laptop-detect 0.13.6 attempt to detect a laptop ii libc6 2.7-12 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii lsb-base 3.2-12 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii powermgmt-base1.30 Common utils and configs for power ii vbetool 1.0-3 run real-mode video BIOS code to a ii x11-xserver-utils 7.3+3 X server utilities Versions of packages acpi-support recommends: ii dbus 1.2.1-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii hal 0.5.11-2 Hardware Abstraction Layer pn nvclock(no description available) ii pm-utils 1.1.2.3-1 utilities and scripts for power ma pn radeontool (no description available) -- no debconf information --- suspendorhibernate.orig 2008-06-26 00:40:53.0 -0700 +++ suspendorhibernate 2008-07-02 01:32:07.0 -0700 @@ -73,14 +73,14 @@ # Call the power management daemon (which, if it is # running, we probably don't know about, since we send # keys if we detect one running that we know of). - if /usr/bin/dbus-send --session \ + if ! /usr/bin/dbus-send --session \ --dest=org.freedesktop.PowerManagement \ --type=method_call \ --print-reply \ --reply-timeout=2000 \ /org/freedesktop/PowerManagement \ org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.$DBUS_METHOD \ - 2&>1 | grep -vq " org.freedesktop.DBus.Error." ; + 2>&1 | grep -q " org.freedesktop.DBus.Error." ; then # Not a DBUS error: other side does exist, and # reports an error. I am actually interested, but ftp-masters rejected my package about 1.5 years ago because they consider it to tiny (it is just a init script). However that package is as tiny as important, it is a must-have in Linux audio systems using realtime kernels (it sets the correct priority to the IRQ-thread of the soundcard). Do you think I should try to re-upload it motivating the need of the package? Or try to find another package able to "host" the script? Package: python-gmpy Version: 1.02~1.dfsg.1-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch Hi, I packaged the new upstream release, the package builds, it's lintian clean. The patch is attached. I also added myself to uploaders and the DM upload field. Feel free to remove it if you disagree. I also imported the package to the DPMT repositories. Let me know if you are against maintaining it in there and I'll remove it. However, I strongly suggest you are not against :), as it is much easier to maintain it in DPMT, as anyone can easily fix the package and if you stay as the maintainer, you will need to approve all changes in the end and you will have to upload it. Let me know if you have any questions to the patch and also let me know if you are busy but otherwise agree with the patch, I'll ask some other DD to upload the package. Hi, thanks for reporting, The problem here is that after original selection is removed, symlinks are going to be set to the new value, but at that time new selected package is not yet even unpacked, so is not possible. However, on pre-configuration everything is shown (even the to-be-removed value), because preconfiguration is done after all the old+new debconf templates files. I am thinking about a way to defer symlinks setting during package removal to new-to-be-installed package postinst when a new ispell dict or wordlist is to be installed in the same run. This should deal with this bug report, if working. In the meantime I am reassigning your bug report to dictionaries-common, where the mentioned changes should happen. Bug#488937: acpi-support: Incorrect D-BUS HAL call in dbus-hal suspend method
Hi Austin, Austin Clements wrote: The implementation of the dbus-hal suspend method in the /usr/share/acpi-support/suspendorhibernate script is incorrect. I've attached a patch which fixes a number of issues with the implementation: * Currently, it calls the DBUS wrong method and thus reliably fails. Ah, that means I read the docs incorrectly. Thanks for correcting me! * stderr was dup'd on to stdout using "2&>1" instead of "2>&1", which was passing '2' as an additional argument and redirecting the output to a file called '1' instead of the intended effect. Youch, that's a nasty one! Sounds more robust indeed. I also made the latter two fixes to the dbus-pm method, though I can't vouch for the correctness of the method being called in that case. Thanks very much for fixing this up. I'll include the fixes in the next upload. Cheers, Bart -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#488895: please move to main
> As far as I can (publically) see the need for contrib arises because it > uses libdb-je-java. The main reason is that lucene2 fails a number of unit tests when running with java-gcj-compat, e.g. for the indexing of dates. See bug #468334. This has been deemed serious enough to put lucene2 into contrib. What I thinks needs to be done is look into the unit test failures more closely, try to isolate java-gcj-compat bugs (or at least incompatibilities with sun-java5/6) and try to have those bugs resolved. Unfortunately, that will be quite a bit of work which I don't have time for now. I'm a bit reluctant to move lucene2 into main while we know it doesn't work properly with java-gcj-compat, but I'll let Michael overrule me...
