I don't know if anybody pointed you to the merged bugs yet, but there
are fixed packages available at:

|+---|
| CVE Name | CVE-2007-5690 |
++

++
| Description | This advisory is a response to a false security |
| | vulnerability published in several places on the |
| | Internet. Had Asterisk's developers been notified prior |
| | to its publication, there would be no need for this. |
| | |
| | There is a potential for a buffer overflow in the|
| | sethdlc application; however, running this application |
| | requires root access to the server, which means that |
| | exploiting this vulnerability gains the attacker no more |
| | advantage than what he already has. As such, this is a |
| | bug, not a security vulnerability. |
++

++
| Resolution | The copy of the user-provided argument to the buffer has |
|| been limited to the length of the buffer. This fix has|
|| been committed to the Zaptel 1.2 and 1.4 repositories,|
|| but due to the lack of severity, new releases will not be |
|| immediately made. |
||   |
|| While we appreciate this programming error being brought |
|| to our attention, we would encourage security researchers |
|| to contact us prior to releasing any reports of their |
|| own, both so that we can fix any vulnerability found |
|| prior to the release of an announcement, as well as |
|| avoiding these types of mistakes (and the potential |
|| embarrassment of reporting a vulnerability that wasn't)   |
|| in the future.|

  Description : YAP Prolog compiler

YAP is a high-performance Prolog compiler developed at LIACC/Universidade
do Porto and at COPPE Sistemas/UFRJ. Its Prolog engine is based in the WAM
(Warren Abstract Machine), with several optimizations for better
performance. YAP follows the Edinburgh tradition, and is largely
compatible with the ISO-Prolog standard and with Quintus and SICStus Prolog.

YAP features constraint solvers over real numbers, and support for
constraint handling rules (CHR).

Package: libsdl1.2debian
Version: 1.2.12-1

Hello, seeing that both xmoto and tuxpaint fail to restore screen
resolution on exit and both depend on libsdl1.2debian, I guess there's
something wrong with it. Running "xrandr -s 1280x1024" restores it, but
kids can't do that by themselves ...

This is not a new bug, has been there for months now. I just recently
upgraded tuxpaint and libsdl1.2debian but even the new versions exhibit
this problem.

More specifically: sethdlc(-new) is a binary that is not often used by
Zaptel users. When it is used, it must be used by root.

Zaptel includes a sample network setup script to start a network
interface on a data T1 interface from a data PRI line connected to a
Zaptel adapter. That sample script surely won't work as-is (it runs
sethdlc rather than sethdlc-new). It is not installed by default on
Debian.

As aparant from the lack of man page for sethdlc-new, I still have not
figured out exactly what this program is supposed to do and how to use
it. I figure that if a certain user will actually complain that it
doesn't work and have a proper setup to test it, I might be able to
check things out.

Right now I suspect that this is basically rather theorethical.

Ben.

this chip is of the 'ralink' type like on (some??) asus wireless

Yes. The rt2570 driver is for Ralink's RT2500USB chipset. If you have
an Asus card with USB id 0b05:1706 or 0b05:1707 then it should work with
rt2570.

Ben.

ok, ben. i'll do that when i put my other (lenny) box online again. i'll

Bug#450692: atlas3-base makes octave crash while performing matrices inversions on an i586

2007-11-09 Thread Dario
Package: atlas3-base
Version: 3.6.0-20.6
Severity: important

Octave 2.9.14 crash when I try to invert a matrix. Initially I tought it was
an octave problem, then I remove atlas3-base from my system and everything
works fine.

It happens on a i586 pentium-mmx machine. atlas3-base (as shown in package
description) should had been compiled without processor optimization but
probably it includes some that i586 architecture doesn't support.

Reproducing the bug is simple:

- Install octave2.9 and atlas3-base on a i586
- Launch octave
- A=eye(2)
- inv(A)

At this point it quit because of an Illegal Operation.

Note that on a AMD K7 machine everything works smooth (with or without
atlas3-base installed).

You don't need to tag it. The version tracking takes care of that.

The bug is marked as closed in version 1.2.2. If you look at the bug list
affecting etch, it still shows as open.

Frankly, if you use Slony 1.2.1 in production, you're crazy. The releases
1.2.2 through 1.2.11 weren't just made for amusement.

Bug#450693: metacity: Desktop randomly hangs on mouse input

2007-11-09 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Package: metacity
Version: 1:2.14.5-4
Severity: important

Within the last month or so, my desktop has started regularly hanging
when I click on window buttons such as the minimize button or close
("X") button. The cursor still moves, but thereafter both mouse clicks
and keyboard input are ignored. Position-sensitive behaviours still
function, such as icons that highlight when you move over them or that
pop-up descriptions, but if I click a second time anywhere on the
screen
while in this state then even that stops working.

Typing and clicking on things within applications does not trigger this
problem. Switching to a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+Fn and killing metacity
(which restarts) clears the condition.

I have to say that I find this quite a surprising response. The
purpose of being able to build the package is so that one can make
and use changes. That's the whole point of Free Software, surely ?

In any case, the package will not work if it needs to be bin-NMUd (ie,
rebuilt), because adding a changelog entry without making any changes
is exactly what the buildds do in that case.

I think the package should be buildable even after changes, and that
the Build-Depends should specify all of the necessary parts for that.

> debian/changelog is

I see. I don't have any objection to parsing the changelog and
generating control files or the like. I just think this
autogeneration ought to work and it seems to me that it doesn't,
currently.

I'll take a look at that, thanks.

Bug#450694: /etc/Net is not a plain file

2007-11-09 Thread Sergio Gelato
I believe this affects systems that were upgraded from Debian woody (or
possibly earlier). /etc/Net used to be a directory containing a file
named Config.pm. In sarge, this file moved to
/usr/share/perl/5.8.4/Net/Config.pm .

It should be safe to
rm /etc/Net/Config.pm
rmdir /etc/Net || true
on affected systems. I'll let someone else decide whether this should be
done in some package's postinst or preinst script.

See also bug #425850. You may want to run
if [ -f /etc/Net ] ; then
if [ -e /etc/perl/Net/libnet.cfg ] ; then
rm /etc/Net
else
mv /etc/Net /etc/perl/Net/libnet.cfg
fi
fi
or equivalent. Again, I wonder whether this might not be worth
doing in postinst.

Bug#450696: phpbb3: login to admin control panel fails for fresh install

2007-11-09 Thread Andrew McMurry
Package: phpbb3
Version: 3.0.0~RC7-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After installing the package, I was following the instructions in
README.Debian. I logged in as Admin, and clicked on 'Administrator
Control Panel' and it asked me to type in my password again.

I get:
General Error
You need to enter your password to access the Administration Control
Panel.

I tried to find a fix for this by searching with Google and found this
problem reported several times, but the only fix I could find was to
update to RC7 style templates. I checked that the specific part of the
login template that needed to be fixed for this was already up to RC7
specification (as was expected since I have just installed RC7 with no
prior phpbb installation present, and have not added any styles or
anything). I have not yet changed any configuration settings, having
been unable to.

Bug#450695: CVE-2007-5395 arbitrary code execution via crafted file

2007-11-09 Thread Nico Golde
Package: link-grammar
Version: 4.2.2-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security patch

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for link-grammar.

CVE-2007-5395[0]:
| Stack-based buffer overflow in the separate_word function in
| tokenize.c in Link Grammar 4.1b and possibly other versions, as used
| in AbiWord Link Grammar 4.2.4, allows remote attackers to execute
| arbitrary code via a long word, as reachable through the
| separate_sentence function.

A patch for this extracted from upstream CVS is attached.
This is the cvs log for this fix:

Secunia advisory SA27340 and CVE identifier CVE-2007-5395.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the
"separate_word()" function in tokenize.c when processing overly long
words (over 61 bytes). This can be exploited to cause a stack-based
buffer overflow via a specially crafted sentence passed to the
"separate_sentence()" function.

If you fix this vulnerability please also include the CVE id
in your changelog entry.

No. The purpose of this formal package descriptions is to allow someone
to build the package.

This is about formalisms.

BinNMUs follows other rules: the version matches \+b\d+$. The relevant
code is available but currently not commited into xen-3.

No. Do you expect that a package which uses automake is rebuildable
after a change of a Makefile.am without pulling in automake? It is not
needed for an unchanged rebuild.

Bastian

This is no different except that the generated debian/control et al
aren't checked into svn, so I have to run
  debian/rules debian/control
by hand. That fails in the same way, until I install
linux-support-2.6.22-2.

Bug#248061: some link detection code all ready there

2007-11-09 Thread Geert Stappers

Where this bug was opened two and half year ago,
there was yet only tagging information in this bugreport.

netcfg has allready program code to detect
if a network interface is live.

A month ago I did an install on a computer with two NICs
where only one was connected to a switch.

I was surprised that I still was asked to choose which NIC to use.

In the syslog came these entries (timestamp removed):

| main-menu[867]: INFO: Menu item 'netcfg' selected
| kernel: eth0: link down
| netcfg[2298]: INFO: eth0 is disconnected. (MII)
| netcfg[2298]: INFO: eth0 is not a wireless interface. Continuing.
| netcfg[2298]: WARNING **: couldn't determine MII ioctl to use for eth1
| netcfg[2298]: INFO: eth1 is not a wireless interface. Continuing.

After some research, I found out that my eth1 indeed had no MII ioctl
support. So the installer was right to ask for choosing a NIC.

People with multiple NICs, that do have MII ioctl support,
in their installed system and see that the live interface is detected,
please be carefull with closing this bugreport, because it is merged
with other bugreports.

Confirming that "link detection" works is appreciated.

Cheers
Geert Stappers

yea works a pain, gets in the way of SL. We can in theory build test
with pbuilder as well cross arch.

I seem to be keeping on top of this with my binary releases pretty well.

Ooooh git. I could *in theory* run a repo but it will be on a broadband
connection and i can't sustain huge numbers of people working off it,
but just a dev team would be fine.

I think the dpatch/quilt should work a treat. I don't know how it
integrates with git though. Maybe we should start with manual
dpatch/quilt and no git. You can have a working build with 7 patches and
some of them are added features such as openAL and mozlib.

I think plan #1 is create a makefile for 1.18.4.3 that will give us a
working start point for debianisation.

I will try to ITP and package c-ares soon as well. I've got another
package in my queue that i must finish first.

2007-11-09 Thread Peter Makholm
Package: cdbs
Version: 0.4.49
Followup-For: Bug #288806

Just overriding DEB_MAKE_INVOKE doesn't work for me. It fails when the
makefile class tries to run $(DEB_MAKE_INVOKE) -k $(DEB_MAKE_CLEAN_TARGET)

Instead I've made the attached patch which provides native support for
Module::Build including code to detect which build system is used by
prefering Build.PL over Makefile.PL.

Bug#450698: claws-mail: nntp auth behavior changed without notice

2007-11-09 Thread Michael Below
Package: claws-mail
Version: 3.1.0~rc1-1
Severity: minor

Hi,

I am using claws to read news from a nntp server that requires
authentication (news.arcor.de). After doing the upgrade from 3.0.2 to 3.1.0
I had to change the news config. In the old config, I had selected only
"Dieser Server benötigt Beglaubigung" (server needs authentication). Now,
this resulted in an error like this:

* NNTP-Verbindung zu news.arcor.de:119 wird erstellt...
[11:15:51] NNTP< 200 newsspool4.arcor-online.net - Welcome to Arcor NNRP
service - for problems mailto [EMAIL PROTECTED] (posting ok)
[11:15:51] NNTP> GROUP alt.guitar.bass
[11:15:51] NNTP< 480 Authentication required for command
** Gruppe alt.guitar.bass konnte nicht ausgewählt werden
** Gruppe alt.guitar.bass konnte nicht gesetzt werden

After selecting "Beglaubigung beim Verbinden" (authentication on connect)
additionally and re-connecting, things worked fine again. I think claws
understanding of options shouldn't change unexpectedly like this, at least
there should be a hint somewhere (e.g. README.Debian)...

Thanks for your work

Michael Below

I just run into this bug.
NetworkManager did not mangage to connect to the wireless network so I
connected via command line. The send/receive button of Evolution stayed
grey. Even killing NetworkManager and restarting Evolution did not help!

What can I do in this situation?

Looks sane to me, generally. But...

> +endif

If I understand Fr=C3=A9d=C3=A9ric correctly, the above restriction is no=
t
necessary when using Build directly. I haven't tested, so this is just
speculation for now...

Another thing is worrying about existing packages - do we not risk
breaking some current use of CDBS by changing this now?

If so, it might be better to check for Build.PL but instead of setting
DEB_PERL_BUILDSYSTEM only warn about it.

2007-11-09 Thread Lee Garrett

Hi again,

with some searching, I found that Ubuntu has this problem, too.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/155992

I guess coordinating this bug with Ubuntu would get it sorted faster.

I think so. But I don't really know that much about mysql.

I think most libraries just have a thread save version. Apr/apr-util can
be compiled both ways but the apache maintainers decided to only ship the
thread save version in Debian.

It would certainly not be binary compatible to other distributions. And
mysql_config would need to be modified so that --libs includes -lthread as
--libs_r does. I don't know what else needs to be changed.

Stefan

Bug#450700: ia32-libs: 2.2 breaks graphics in Second Life

2007-11-09 Thread Ben Hodgetts
Package: ia32-libs
Version: 2.2
Severity: important

Upgrading to version 2.2 of ia32-libs breaks SecondLife (2.1 is fine). It runs
slow and when
facing most directions half the objects (or everyting) disappears entirely
rendering the program unusable.
This seems to be related to Mesa (its 32bit libraries contained within). The
fix on 32bit was to
downgrade all libgl1-mesa packages to 7.0.1-1 from -2 so it must be those files
inside lib32
that break it.

Other Idea:

Generate a text with information about the network interfaces and below
the text in the same screen the choices.

So something like a multiple choice exam form.

Example:

   Detected network interfaces

   eth0:
 Vendor: somecom
 Model: tgv
 MAC: 53:4F:4D:09:0B:23
 Link: up

   eth1:

Bug#405915: init script problems

2007-11-09 Thread arno
Hi,
I installed sobby, and tried to use part of your patch to make sobby run as a
daemon. I found a few problems with your init script:

First, if SESSION_FILE does not exist (at first sobby startup for example),
daemon starting fails silently. If I just launch sobby on the command line, it
tells
Could not open file '/var/lib/sobby/sobby.log' for reading
Also, if autosave_file is written in sobby.conf it is taken into account
anyway.
So I replaced
DAEMON_ARGS="-c /etc/sobby.conf $SESSION_FILE"
with
DAEMON_ARGS="-c /etc/sobby.conf"

Also, I had to add the line
. /lib/lsb/init-functions
otherwise, log_daemon_msg (and possibly other functions) were not defined

Last, checkbashisms finds a "bashism" on line
[ "$RUNSOBBY" == "yes" ] || exit 0
I replaced that line with
[ "$RUNSOBBY" = "yes" ] || exit 0

hope that helps

For some reason, there was indeed original Motif installed on my box in
/usr/local/lib in addition to the lesstif version in /usr/lib from the
lesstif2 package. After I disabled the Motif lib xmgrace works like a
charme. You can close the bug, if you haven't already.

Bug#309188: savelog patch: configurable date format

2007-11-09 Thread Knut Auvor Grythe
On Sat, Oct 20, 2007 at 02:52:16PM +0200, Lasse Karstensen wrote:

I believe this patch must have been created for a version of
debian-utils older than 2.17.4, because it breaks completely in
combination with the patch for #401143, introduced in 2.17.4.
That patch assumes that the suffix consists of exactly 14 numeric
characters. Obviously, this is not always the case when users are
allowed to create arbitrary suffixes using -D.

I have attached a patch which (as far as I can see) removes all
assumptions about the format of the date string. It also solves the
problem with gzip errors from the initial rotation, as mentioned by Paul
Slootman earlier. I also hard coded .gz and .bz2 in there, so people can
change from gz to bz2 (or vice versa) without double-compressing logs.
$DOT_Z is also matched, to minimize the breakage in case of new formats
being added in the future.

Note that this patch might cause odd behaviour if one log filename is a
prefix of another. For example, when rotating the file "foo", "foo.bar"
will also be affected, since savelog doesn't know if "bar" is part of
the date string supplied with -D or not. I am not aware of log files
which would be affected, but didn't investigate the matter very
throughly. I considered a hack with limiting the matching to the length
of $DATUM, but that would assume that the format string supplied with -C
always creates dates of equal length, and we don't know that. Besides,
it would still break if $DATUM had the same amount of characters as
"bar".

Also note that DATUM=`date +$OPTARG` doesn't quote $OPTARG, and thus
requires the string supplied to -D to be escaped twice if it contains
spaces or other weird characters. I didn't patch this, because I'm not
sure if the possibility to use -D "%Y-%m-%d -d yesterday" to get
yesterdays date (useful when savelog is ran right after midnight) is a
feature or a bug ;-)

After upgrading to 4.4.1-2, the panel randomly stops working. It does
not disappear, but the icons don't respond anymore if you move the
mouse pointer on them. Additionally, switching workspaces and keyboard

reproduce this bug yet, therefore I cannot supply more information, but
I will as soon as I have it.

Have you seen http://www.tbble.net/debian/slviewer-artwork and
http://www.tbble.net/debian/slviewer?

My latest build there appears to be 1.18.1.2, although I have a
feeling I'd stuffed up the build-system patches on non-PowerPC...

I don't think it's hard to fix, in fact I thought I discussed it
earlier in this bug.

I think most of the work is in porting the various dpatches I have
to the latest version. Sometimes it's trivial, and sometimes it's
a pain, especially when they solve a problem upstream differently
to how I've solved it. (Although then you can just drop the patch)

The issue with using pbuilder (at least for my pbuilder-uml setup at
home) is that slviewer needs a couple of extra packages (also
packaged at http://www.tbble.net/debian/) and I never got pbuilder
satisfactorially grabbing them, given I haven't set up
apt-ftparchive or anything.

(See the ITPs marked as blocking this one for history of those two
packages)

I was thinking of actually hosting it on git.debian.org. Although
I'm not sure if we need a developer to get access, if it runs
through alioth, or what.

Manual dpatch is what's in my packages above.

I haven't been through the dpatches in the build since August,
according to the timestamps, so they may have been superseded
or declared bad on the sldev mailing list (which I also haven't
read since August)

The dpatch comments though should give enough background to track
down their history and relevant.

I don't think we need to convert the build system to make, that'll
just mean more maintenance work every time upstream Sconstruct
changes. I think it's a better bet to try and get our required
Sconstruct changes pushed nice and generic and pushed up into the
LL tree.

That'd be great.

this bug still exists in xterm. xterm inherits _every_ environment
variable i've set _exept_ TMPDIR. this behaviour is not documented and
afaik not intended.

bug description / verification:

a) ~/.bash_env
 --- 8< ---
 export TMPDIR=foo
 export TEST=bar
 --- >8 ---

b) ~/.xsession
 --- 8< ---
 . ~/.bash_env
 --- >8 ---

c) ~/.bash_profile
 --- 8< ---
 . ~/.bash_env
 --- >8 ---

d) via ShowCmdDialog or some analougus tool out of your favorite wm:
 env > environment-test

e) grep TMPDIR ~/environment-test
 TMPDIR=foo

f) start xterm via debian menu
 $ echo $TMPDIR

 $ echo $TEST
 bar
 $

this bug is not windowmanager specific: i tested it under pekwm, fluxbox
and gnome.

this bug is debian specific. i compiled the xterm_229.orig.tar.gz without
appling the debian pachtes to verify this.

for various reasons -ls is not allways desireable, so using it as 'fix'
for this bug is not allways acceptable (i for example have startx,
screen -x and things like this in my .bash_profile on various desktop
installations which make the destinction between 'interactive' and
'login' shell quite usefull).

my workaround (for the sake of other users suffering from this bug):

split your bash_profile and put environment settings in a some other file
(eg. ~/.bash_env). source it out of ~/.bash_profile. export an check
variable (eg. export _env=haveit). add the following lines to your
~/.bashrc:

[ -z "$_env" ] && . ~/.bash_env # for the sake of completeness
# workaround Bug #276234
[ -z "$TMPDIR" -a -n "$_env" ] && eval `/bin/grep "export TMPDIR" ~/.bash_env`

yours,
rainer ruprechtsberger

I guess this is the known gtk 2.12 + xfwm 4.4.1-2 bug.
Does everything else work?
Can you change workspace etc. ?

Bug#450707: rhythmbox keeps respawning itself when I CTRL+Q

2007-11-09 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.10.1-1+b2
Severity: normal

Hello,

I'm trying to quit rhythmbox. I usually use CTRL+Q to do
this, but when I do this rhythmbox start itself up again.
Same if I select Music -> Quit from the menu.

It's possible that gnome-session-manager has gone bananas I
suppose, but "killall rhythmbox" stops it.

The following is appended to .xsession-errors on restart:

Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a
_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for
0x2c00029 (Music Play)
Window manager warning: meta_window_activate called by a
pager with a 0 timestamp; the pager needs to be fixed.

Need to fit into 80x24 (inclusive some decoration/overhead). And
cdebconf/newt AFAIK don't support scrolling text over a selection.

Bug#450709: grub-pc: installation failure under linux + udev

A partial fix can be found at http://darac.livejournal.com/220952.html

But ... util/biosdisk.c has another issue with detecting udev. The
routine has_devfs searchs for /dev/.devfsd, which cames from deprecated

Well. I'd rather see either “Évènement” or “Événement” (either would be
correct). You might have missed the reform which makes “évènement” the
recommended spelling (since it is consistent with “avènement”) —
although I agree with you that “événement” is nicer. ;-)

Then that's the translator's choice whether to follow that reform and
its new recommendation.

I don't think we will add gnomeries to Recommends. pmount works fine in most
cases. If you really need gnome-mount, feel free to install it.

Besides, thunar now use exo/hal mounting.

Hi,

Interesting, a similar problem was described in bug 415176, but never
really resolved.

According to upstream bug 473195, this might be "caused by some
misbehaving dbus client".

Hi,

Is this specific to Rhythmbox, or does it happen with other GStreamer
based players?

You should be able to try this by using a gstreamer pipeline, like this:

gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri="file:///path/to/my/musicfile.ogg"

You will need the gstreamer0.10-tools package.

Well, pmount is more or less "deprecated" and abandoned upstream. Using
hal (which gnome-mount does) is the way to go.

Sounds good. Does the exo/hal support in thunar allow to mount encrypted
partitions? Why is a Recommends pmount actually necessary?

Bug#450713: xserver-xorg-input-evtouch: Calibration utility does not work, use a different one?

2007-11-09 Thread Bill Gribble
Package: xserver-xorg-input-evtouch
Version: 0.8.7-2
Severity: normal

The source README with this package indicates that the author knows
the calibration utility does not work, and indeed it does not. First,
a required pixmap file
(/usr/share/xf86-input-evtouch/empty_cursor.xbm) is not installed in a
place that the utility can find it. Moving it to / (!) addresses
that problem, but then with current xorg I could not surmount the
authorization issues required to get the thing to run using its wacky
socket and xinit strategy.

There is an alternative calibration utility, which works for any event
input device, and prints the Min/Max X/Y values. It runs as a normal
X client and requires manual intervention to paste its output into
xorg.conf, but it is reliable and simple. It is downloadable at
http://linux.chapter7.ch/touchkit/calibrator.c, but unfortunately
there is no copyright notice or license in that file. It is very
probably free software, given that it is widely distributed with the
Linux usb-touchkit, but I can't say for sure.

Thanks,
Bill Gribble

Bug#450714: icedove: spellchecker language from addressbook

2007-11-09 Thread Alexander Buerger
Package: icedove
Version: 2.0.0.6-1

It would be nice to have an entry in the addressbook not only for
setting the html/plain preference of the recipient, but also for the
language, and to make the editor's spell-checker (optionally) switch
to this language when starting compostition. At present it is quite
annoying to switch the spell-checking manually for each mail.

Did you also file it upstream then? If not, can you please do?
It's better you doing it (and you be submitter and getting

Bug#450715: jabber-yahoo: Shouldn't depend on jabber

2007-11-09 Thread John Goerzen
Package: jabber-yahoo
Version: 2.3.2-1+b2
Severity: normal

The code in this package is compatible with ejabberd, jabberd2, etc.
There are just a few bits (the jabber user, etc.) in the postinst/init
scripts that seem to rely on jabber. It should follow the more general
approach of other transports and not depend on jabber to work.

See http://www.ejabberd.im/yahoo-transport-2 for instance.

2007-11-09 Thread Michael Gebetsroither
Package: libterm-readkey-perl
Version: 2.30-3

Hi,

We've a problem with ReadKey(0).
We use it in one of our wrapper programms to read non-echoed single
character's.

Something like this:
while (not defined ($x = ReadKey(0))) {}

The real problem is, that after starting start-x and returning, the cpu
runs at 100% because ReadKey does not block anymore and returnes
undefined value all of the time.

Code which shows this behaviour:

Bug#450716: libxosd2: xinerama really necessary?

2007-11-09 Thread Tim Connors
Package: libxosd2
Version: 2.2.14-1.3
Severity: normal

On my laptop (in fact all laptops using the nvidia driver), the
external display is unfortunately identified as the primary display.
With the default --with-xinerama, the osd display goes to the primary
display, whereas, I think it should go to the always present internal
display. On my other systems, I've found it just works best going to
the left hand display, ie, with geometry around +x+y for some y and
some small x.

All this can be achieved just by turning off xinerama with
--without-xinerama.

What would really be best though is to have the geometry or the
xinerama display number[1] of some other means of encoding the
position we want the OSD, user configurable for all users of libxosd,
via a dotfile in the user's home directory. Allow as many geometries
as the user wants, so they might even specify that the text appears
duplicated on both screen 0 and 1 via geometries with both eg. +20+960
and +1300+960.

[1] I think xinerama display number really is the wrong thing to do.
On laptops particularly, this will change. I tried first modifying
the source to go to xinerama screen number 1, but as soon as the
external monitor disappeared, naturally xosd-bin is going to crash
because there is no screen 1. A raw X geometry makes so much more
sense.

Wasn't sure about this either. So I just left it in for both systems.

I would really hate having a long term solution prefering a
compatability layer over using Module::Build directly. It is a problem
that you can't easily override the test som it might be preferable to
make the setting

DEB_PERL_BUILDSYSTEM ?= $(shell test -e Build.PL && echo Module::Build)
DEB_PERL_BUILDSYSTEM ?= MakeMaker

Yes, exisitng packages may fail but it is easily fixed by setting
DEB_PERL_BUILDSYSTEM to MakeMaker (or anything but Module::Build).

Hi,

the problem still exists today.
It doesn't depend on compiling multiple files. It happens
with simple .tex documents, too - aah, I'm using bibtex so maybe
this might be the same as compiling multiple files!?
Is there a chance for a fix or workaround? It's really annoying!

Package: passwd

usermod --append --groups cmstaff editor

Bug#450720: RM: lxdoom - obsoleted

2007-11-09 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi ftpmasters,

Please remove "lxdoom" source package and it's binary
packages lxdoom-sndserv, lxdoom-svga, lxdoom, lxdoom-x11
from the unstable archive. It is abandoned upstream and
orphaned within Debian.

The packages have no reverse-dependencies that cannot be
satisfied by anything else.

I am a maintainer of various doom packages in Debian, as a
member of the Debian games team. In particular I maintain
prboom, which is the upstream continuation of the lxdoom
project.

The original discussion on debian-qa regarding this removal
can be found here:

(when I get a bugnumber I'll ask a member of the -qa team
to append RoQA to this bug)

The attached one does not work becuase it will fire for gnupg 1.x and
gnupg 2.0 updates. Fix should be trivial.

Ah, ok. Makes sense :-)

Agreed, but we must remain backwards compatible:

# TODO: Favor Module::Build over MakeMaker
DEB_PERL_BUILDSYSTEM ?=3D MakeMaker
$(and $(filter MakeMaker,$(DEB_PERL_BUILDSYSTEM)),$(wildcard
Build.PL),$(warning use of MakeMaker is deprecated, please set
DEB_PERL_BUILDSYSTEM=3DModule::Build)

(the last 3 lines above as a single line).

When (or if) it is some day decided to bump the cdbs ABI, we can favor
Module::Build and only use MakeMaker as fallback.

Is that acceptable?

(do my reasoning make sense at all?)

i tried the command you suggested, but gst-launch appears to ignore
gconf-settings, so it seems to always use the default sound card, which
ist, in my case, the card that doesn't cause problems.

i tried this:
gst-launch-0.10 -v filesrc location=hartz_IV.mp3 ! mad ! audioconvert !
  alsasink device=hw:1

which results in the following error output:
---[snip]---
Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
/pipeline0/mad0.src: caps = audio/x-raw-int, endianness=(int)1234,
signed=(boolean)true, width=(int)32, depth=(int)32, rate=(int)44100,
channels=(int)2 ERROR: from element /pipeline0/filesrc0: Internal data
flow error. Additional debug info: gstbasesrc.c(1816):
gst_base_src_loop (): /pipeline0/filesrc0: streaming task paused,
reason not-negotiated (-4) ERROR: pipeline doesn't want to preroll.
Setting pipeline to NULL ...
/pipeline0/mad0.src: caps = NULL
FREEING pipeline ...
---[snap]---

givin [...] device=hw:nv_dmix as argument works. in this case nv_dmix
uses the right card (card 1), but as it does in rhythmbox, this doesn't
cause the hight cpu load. i tried to have gst-launch resample the
output to 48000khz (the card says, it's using this sample rate), but i
couldn't figure out the proper command line arguments how to do this.
