There's a column in Chirp if you work from the Chirp editor instead of CSV

Re: [chirp_users] New Python coming?

But Chirp is only a set of Python scripts written in plain text.
Plain text is only 8 bit so why would the OS matter?
It's only the Python runtime that needs to be 64 bit.

Probably not but you can always set up email rules to reject those you don't

I suggest you send your radios to the dealer and get them to do the programming.

Perhaps the BJ-218 doesn't support 12.5K. Chirp thinks your radio is a 218.

That's unlikely to be Chirp.

More likely your device driver installation. Which COM port does your device

Billy,

Please answer these questions in my yesterday's message below one by one so we
can help you.

If you're using Mac or Linux skip the questions regarding Device Manager, but
you may still get a notification if you unplug and plug back in your USB cable.
We need to know the name the notification gives you for the location of the
cable.

Most of the problems people have is they are using counterfeit chips in
inexpensive pirated USB converters under Windows which use Prolific chip sets,
or the cable physically isn't fitting into the radio sufficiently enough and we
can advise you what to do to make it fit.

We need more information from you to start helping you.

Billy,

Tell us these things.

What Operating System and Version are you using?

Example Windows Vista, or Arch Linux, etc.

Go to Device Manager if you're using Windows and see if there are any Warnings
especially under connections and com ports. If so, what are the warnings?

Unplug your cable into the computer from your radio. One of the com ports will
go away in Device Manager. Now plug it in, you should get a notification, what
com port does it say? Do you get a notification?

Make sure the com port that you cable is using is the same one selected in
CHIRP.

Regards,

David

True. The setting of the volume control has NOTHING to do with programming.

If you have to wait several minutes between plugging in the radio and
downloading with Chirp then your Windows installation is broken. It's not Chirp
causing it.

Data uses the same connector. It doesn't go through the radio's audio chain.

I installed the latest Chirp, as of today, and it knows about the FT-3200D. I plugged the cable into the computer USB and the radio microphone jack. By trial and error, I discovered that the FTM-3200D goes into CLONE mode by holding in SETUP and then turning it on. Also, by trial and error, I found that the FTM-3200D went into TRANSMIT mode to the computer by starting the Chirp Download from Radio, and then pressing REV on the FT-3200, whereupon the radio went to TX mode and began to count up, and Chirp also showed that it was downloading data. The process finished, the radio went back to CLONE, but Chirp returned a checksum error. Chirp does not display any radio data after the failure. To sum up, the radio is happy that it spoke to Chirp, but Chirp is not happy with what it heard, probably at the end of the exchange.Does anyone know how I can get past this error message?Thank you and 73,Jan, KX2A___chirp_users mailing listchirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.comhttp://intrepid.danplanet.com/mailman/listinfo/chirp_usersThis message was sent to John LaMartina at joh...@usa.netTo unsubscribe, send an email to chirp_users-unsubscr...@intrepid.danplanet.com___chirp_users mailing listchirp_users@intrepid.danplanet.comhttp://intrepid.danplanet.com/mailman/listinfo/chirp_usersThis message was sent to Nigel Gunn, W8IFF at ni...@ngunn.netTo unsubscribe, send an email to chirp_users-unsubscr...@intrepid.danplanet.com

The one you download from the Baofeng website.
You can try https://www.farnsworth.org/dale/codeplug/editcp/ but it might only
support TYT and clones.

Yes, columns are consistent across all radio types.
Don't mess with CSV files.
You can copy and paste between Chirp windows/tabs.

True but the column headings are the same for all radios, which is what the

Chirp will take account of the differences in column contents.

Re: [chirp_users] Field names across different radios.

2019-12-11 Thread Nigel A. Gunn G8IFF/W8IFF
What is there to transpose?
TSQL to TONE SQL or T-sql are only column headers. They all mean the same thing
and, as groups of letters, do not get uploaded to the radio. They only exist
within Chirp.
Chirp only uploads the number in the box.

Re: [chirp_users] Field names across different radios.

2019-12-11 Thread Nigel A. Gunn G8IFF/W8IFF
You can just copy and paste between Chirp tabs and upload to the other radio.
Chirp will look after the radio's requirements.
If you use csv and a spreadsheet program, be aware that Microsoft Excel is
known to corrupt the spreadsheet by making unwanted entries in some empty
cells. Better to use Libre Office or Open Office.

Chirp will sort out the data. Just download from the new radio first so that
Chirp knows which radio you're uploading to.
Don't invent problems that don't exist. Just use it.

My CPS doesn't ask for a com port. It just seems to find the radio. However, it

That's my experience.
It just works, every time. At least with any flavour of Ubuntu that I've tried.

Re: [chirp_users] Chirp under Linux

2019-12-23 Thread Nigel A. Gunn G8IFF/W8IFF
The Windows equivalent of sudo is "run as administrator" which you Windows
users often seem to need.
At least with Linux, I can initiate an update and ALL the software I have
installed gets updated. No going around multiple websites looking for updates.
And it only takes 5 minutes at most for big system updates without numerous
reboots during the process.

Channel spacing is irrelevent.
He cant hear you because you have CTCSS encode on and he DOES NOT have CTCSS
decode on. You both need either encode AND decode ON or both OFF.

Channel spacing is the steps that the tuning knob or buttons step in.
It's DEVIATION that you are referring to.
Neither has any effect on SQUELCH on most radios.
Deviation will effect the loudness of the received signal.

Re: [chirp_users] chirp_users Digest, Vol 133, Issue 8

2020-01-11 Thread Nigel A. Gunn G8IFF/W8IFF
It's not the "Linux distro" thaty detects the chip and provides the device
driver.
Device drivers are in the kernal and all Linux distros get their kernal from
the same place. All kernals for a current distro will be the latest version of
the one kernal available.
If the kernal changes to detect fake chips then all future distros will be
impacted.

Yes. Has a .img filename suffix.
First time you download from radio you should go to the "files" menu in Chirp
and save that file before you edit it. Just in case anything gets messed up and
you need to restore the radio.

Chirp doesn't support the MD-380.
You can save the file produced by your code page editor but that is likely only
a configuration file and not a complete memory image.

You upload TO radio, DOWNLOAD from radio.
It's probably not com3. Mine is /dev/ttyUSB0
You probably have the wrong device driver loaded for the cable which probably

Open images of both radios into two different Chirp tabs and cut/copy/paste

More reliable than the website.

Re: [chirp_users] Google Chrome?

2020-03-16 Thread Nigel A. Gunn G8IFF/W8IFF
I've found a problem with the crouton script.
It repartitions your hard drive, which is probably only 16GB to start with and,
having removed crouton and reverted to vanilla Chrome OS, I have lost 5GB, I
assume, in a hidden partition that I can't get back.
So now, if I reinstall Linux, it only starts with 11GB.
Can't afford to loose that amount.

Your money, your paranoia.
