OK, but that was not our experience with the 450d antenna. I think even Matt
admitted it was a couple dB less gain after touting its alleged improved
performance. The other factor was speed license keys. We bought all our 450 SMs
as 20 Mbps sustained but have spent $80 to upgrade around 25% of them to
uncapped. 450b SMs are uncapped. I think 450d base license was 40 Mbps?I also
don't remember if SMs before 450b could do 40 MHz channels. Original

Re: [AFMUG] Superbox

2024-11-26 Thread Ken Hohhof
The customer who had one (actually a friend trying to convince them to buy one)
said something about a “Blue TV” app.

You can buy an ONN brand Android TV box at Walmart for $20. But someone puts a
digital clock on the front and loads a pirate TV app on it, now it’s worth $250
or $350. And the hardware isn’t illegal, just like burglar tools and lock
cutters aren’t illegal.

And I notice these magic free TV box companies don’t say anything about being
able to watch network affiliates and cable channels and NFL and Netflix for
free on their website, they put that on their social media site and Youtube
videos. Plausible deniability anyone? Yet I get carded if I buy a can of
spray paint at Home Depot. You never know, I might be that criminal Banksy.

Re: [AFMUG] Superbox

was a joke, but probably not, they know theyre gonna get pirated left and
right, why not monetize it

as i understand it the box is allowed because it doesnt directly pirate
anything. Its the users pirating it.

>From a political standpoint theyre golden, the left wont come after them in
legislation because they want everything free and the right wont come after
them because holding a manufacturer responsible for a users action opens up
the gun manufacturer door.

The content streams are hosted in places where copyright isnt enforced and
mandatory ISP filtering isnt a thing that will ever work. Im guessing it
operates botnet style where a C&C keeps the content servers updated as they
get shut down and have to move. What I dont understand is how the
maintenance is paid on that infrastructure with the one time fee model. I
wonder if its security through obscurity where they infrastructure houses a
lot of the actual bad internet stuff, but since its hammered by housewives
using the box to watch the view and charmed, authorities have a harder time
filtering the bad content actors. May have to collect packets to see how
much content the bosses is serving outward onion

So this gives access to some pirate channels, or does it somehow

Re: [AFMUG] removal of WISP equipment

2024-11-26 Thread castarritt
The wideband 4.9-5.9Ghz antenna on the 450b was tuned for peak gain around
5.4ghz, and it had about 3dB less gain in 5725-5850 Mhz than a
450d despite the similar antenna dimensions. We liked the 450d a lot
because it had good gain in the primary band we were running our APs in,
and it could be easily pole mounted on a rohn h20-50 unlike a KP reflector.

I wouldn't see how Netflix would invest if they're one of the ones being
pirated.

It was not clear to me that the box circumvented regular streaming
content, as they did not really call out the fact that you could get
Netflix *(etc.) without subscribing to same.

Yeah, the 450b "high" gain ended up a few dBi under a 450d or 450+reflector
in 5.7ghz. 450b peak gain was in DFS land where the gain on the AP antenna
was the limiting factor, not the SM.

Re: [AFMUG] removal of WISP equipment

2024-11-26 Thread Ken Hohhof
450d was just a 450 SM with an integral dish, it had the same lower rcv gain as
a 450b. It should have never existed.450b has higher xmt power than 450 SM,
higher PPS thanks to faster CPU, and does 4.9 GHz thru 5.9 GHz in one SKU.

equipmentYeah, the 450b "high" gain ended up a few dBi under a 450d or
450+reflector in 5.7ghz.? 450b peak gain was in DFS land where the gain on the
AP antenna was the limiting factor, not the SM.On Tue, Nov 26, 2024 at 9:52?AM

[AFMUG] removal of WISP equipment?Because a new 450 SM is $280. A perfectly
good used radio is free for redeployment. We have a recovery list that the
installers reference when they are in the area and swing by and pick up the
radio and dish. We leave the mast and cable as it's now considered part of the
house. It makes good business sense. Now 450b's can rot in hell as far as I
care.?On Wed, Nov 20, 2024 at 11:25?AM Josh Luthman

"pickups" and it would be filler work for the field people. They'd remove the

them pretty quick because we left empty spaces in the schedule for service

[AFMUG] removal of WISP equipment ?We are starting to run into cases where
customers cancel (most commonly to get T-Mobile Home Internet) and while the
CPE is still perfectly functional we would not redeploy it.? Like a Cambium 450
SM with a reflector dish (as opposed to a 450b).? So we don?t want it back, and
don?t want to send a tech out to remove it.?Sometimes customers insist they
want us to take it off their house.? Is there some legal obligation for us to
do this?? I think if you discontinue DISH or DirecTV and want the sat dish
taken down, they don?t come do it (unless maybe you pay to have it done).-- AF
