There is no boundary between "elementary" and "advanced" mathematics.  
Also, there is no boundary between "discrete mathematics" and "complex 
analysis" or "numerics".

I cannot quite pin it down, but this sounds fishy to me.  Maybe because in 
this particular case it's not just about work, maybe also because there are 
some aspects I find plain wrong.
