I tell my grid friends to buy a Genset. If they can afford a roof
mounted solar power system and all of the RSD bloatware, they can easily
afford a good genset.
A recent project, the county would not approve the
offgrid home unless it had power. I was too busy (it was too hot) to get
involved so I had my client specify a genset for the home. Sailed right
thru the building department. This fall when it is cool again, we shall do
a proper ground mounted system. The RSD will be a 600vdc Square D disco.
Very Retro!

Many counties do not care about offgrid as long as all the
fees and school taxes are paid 😉 If they do care later, it is easy to pay
the fee to correct what they want with a ground mount. Feed them alot of
paper also is helpful!
