Hey Chris,

A few years ago I built a pulser circuit the produces a 35 Vp-p spike at 1 kHz. I have used it a quite a few times to recover abused batteries. Usually newer batteries that have been chronically undercharged, both AGM and flooded. My restore method is use a high voltage charge (up to 2.5V per cell @ 77 degrees) with the pulser connected for few weeks watching the current first rise then drop. Then I do a constant current equalization with no voltage limit, just watch the temperature, until the current drops to 1.5A per 100AH capacity for flooded or 0.7A per 100AH for AGM. I have put quite a few batteries back in service. When a battery is still connected to the inverter, the spike is filtered down quite a lot but still present. I'm not sure how effective it would be just putting one in a system.

A commercial manufacturer came by our retail store last winter wanting me to carry their charge and pulser products. I put one on the bench with the rep watching and could not see any pulse on the scope, just lots of ripple that I could not lock onto. I grabbed my pulser to show him what I was looking for. The rep could not explain it why theirs did not do the same. I suppose there could be several desulfator designs out there. I have not tested any others.

Dear folks:

What is y'all's opinions on desulfators? I have a customer who is having to do a battery upgrade, and someone's stuck a bug in her ear about them. I figure proper battery care is most essential, but I am interested in hearing about your experiences.

Thanks so much for your information!
