Hey Scott, If you're looking for a "test" area that will help you know if this nutty idea works for you or not, I'd suggest sleeping on the floor (if that can be done in a way conducive with whatever your family life is). When I switched, my wife switched too, so that made it a non-issue. Sleeping on the floor gives you 1/3rd of the day natural and unsupported. It may make your sleep worse for a week or so before your body adjusts to it, then it will improve from there. If you need a pillow to start, use one -- plenty of time to allow your body to catch up and loosen up before you lose the pillow. But it is very freeing to be able to lie down anywhere and have portable pillows in your arms. A bit quirky, but you may find this link helpful: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1119282/.
If sleeping is not conducive to family life, or you want to do what you can in addition to sleeping on the floor, then simply sit on the floor (without leaning on a wall) as much as possible rather than a chair. It will be harder to get 8 hours a day that way, but that will also work on your core in a way that sleeping doesn't. Again, it will be challenging and take 3 months to get really comfortable with it, but you will be amazed at the improvements along the way well before then. If you experience matches mine, you will start to feel limber and lithe and rejuvenated in a way you didn't realize you were missing. It really is amazing.
