I've been a calorie counter for 40 years. At 62, I'm six feet tall and weigh 140lbs. I drink beer every day and eat pasta and pizza at least a couple times a week. The problem with Taubes is that his diet is too restrictive. Taubes states that low carb diets failed because doctors discounted them. Wrong. These diets failed because most people won't stay on them long term. The beauty of calorie counting is that you can eat whatever you want, you just need to control portion size. Calories in/calories out - it really is that simple.
