I spent about 4 years where my only bike was a Gunnar crosshairs, and I made
a point of proving that I could ride just about any ³mountain bike² trail on
it. It was great, and I learned a lot about bike handling. I remember
getting crazy stares high up in the Rockies when groups of mountain bikers
realized that I made it up there on my, gasp, ³10 speed.²

These days I have more than one bike, and I¹ve realized that just because I
CAN do a particular trail on a cross bike doesn¹t necessarily mean that it¹s
ENJOYABLE to me on a cross bike.

So for me today the transition from drop bar cross bike to suspension
mountain bike happens when riding the ³road² bike off road stops being fun.
That can happen because I¹m just getting too beat up, or spending so much
time on descents holding the brakes that my hands hurt, etc. Depends on the
trail, or how far I¹m planning to ride that day.

Horses for courses, but most horses can run lots of courses.

I guess that's why I got such a good deal on those Turbos ...
