All good advice. I've ridden the 5 Borough and it was fun (especially riding over the Verrazano Bridge). But bike shop employees I know call it the "5 Borough Bike Crash" for good reason. I saw two bad collisions when I rode. And I'll second Steve's endorsement of the Tour de Bronx. It's my favorite organized ride in New York City.
