Combination. Cogs most certainly are more inboard now, as pointed out by WETH and Joe, your chainline has definitely moved toward the inner plate. The elevation of the FD needs to be adjusted for your switch from 46t (what RBW stocks at moment on XD2 triples) to 40.
Due to the shaping of the side plates of modern FDs, vertical adjustment is key because the inner plate has a big step at the rear of the inside cage to contact your chain sooner when moved. This is where I find these FDs "picky", the acceptable adjustment is smaller, the range of chainring tooth count difference they will tolerate is smaller. When I wide doubled my Rambouillet, I switched to a Suntour X-1 FD. Since I using outer and mid ring positions on my Zephyr cranks I did change BB length. Lowering your derailleur may get the granny end of your gear combinations to have the chain going through the D cage *above *that inner plate narrowing, not rubbing it.
