Sounds like mose likely the problem you're having is that you've either got 
to lower the FD down the DT a bit to accommodate the new 26T chainring 
(never minding what used to be the largest triple chainring) and/or you 
need a different width BB spindle in order to recenter your chainline 
between the two new chainrings (i.e., a double).
