Since I have "gone wide with pride" I have noticed how uncomfortable
by skinny 25mm wide race tires are on my vintage race bike. My all
round bike sports 41mm wide (actual) tires at 70 psi and they are
carefree and fast enough. So far these have been impervious to sharp
rocks on my friends long driveway and I love how they smooth out the
road. Acceleration is slower than lighter tires but its not very
noticeable in the real world. I am amazed at how some publications
promote what is basically a racing orientated mindset. If I could go
back 30 years and loose 80 pounds I could ride those skinny tires
again and fantasize that I am somehow faster by a large margin !
