For the shortbread layer, the font glyphs are being served from
"https://vector.openstreetmap.org/styles/shortbread/fonts/{fontstack}/{range}.pbf";
(see e.g. https://vector.openstreetmap.org/styles/shortbread/colorful.json). I
had a look at the OSMF chef but I couldn't figure out where the font pbfs
currently come from. It's unknown to me if the OSMF generates the font pbfs
themselves (in which case the extra fonts could be added more easily) or
whether the pbf files are just copy+pasted from upstream. I expect @pnorman
knows.
