The SSID is like a user name and the key is the password. You need both pieces 
of information to connect to a "secured" WLAN. 

That's another thing you can do to lock down your router; don't respond to 
being "boinged" or pinged, if you prefer. :) IAC the idea is to make it just a 
little bit harder for the casual hacker; not keep out the more determined 
vermin.

I've never groked why the SSID provides anything for someone with ill-intent 
towards your wifi link. Other than identifying you and where you are (if your 
SSID is "123 Main Street") what do they have if they have it? Your box will 
still "boing" when probed, whether it responds with an SSID name or not....
