The 1st gps unit i ever had was a car Pioneer. Quite expensive at the time (€2500) . It has an external gps antenna, when it comes to signal reception it still beats my other units by a rather big margin. It even has a gyroscope so it seldom loses track. Let down now by maps & screen unfortunately.
My advice: don't bother, buy a new unit.
