But why should they? As a number, 2.1 and 2.10 are the same thing (except for implied precision). And I can see possible confusion there. But 2.1.0 and 2.10.0 are not valid numbers. Is the 1 and 10 right of the decimal point and the same? Or are they left of the decimal point and different? Uh, both. Or maybe neither. Because 2.1.0 and 2.10.0 aren't numbers. Rather, they're three separate numbers using dots as separators rather than as a decimal point. No doubt no matter what you do, some people will get confused.
