You write an image to an SD card, plug it into the rpi, plug the drive with your music on it into the rpi USB port, turn it on, wait a couple of minutes, open a web browser and the max2play configuration screen, tick a few boxes to download and install LMS and that's it! The rest is done using the LMS configuration / setup page. If you can manage the settings pages of LMS you will have no problem with Max2play. The whole point of the package is to screen you from any Linux nonsense. It is preconfigured with all the software you need to run LMS.
It took me about 15 minutes to assemble the rpi (I am a bit fat fingured), 20 minutes or so to download and write the image to the SD card. Once the rpi was powered up and I was in the M2P browser I ticked a couple of boxes to download LMS and set it running. To be honest most of the time was spent waiting for stuff to download. The whole process took less than an hour. There are more options if you want to use the rpi as a player but for server only duties it couldn't be simpler.
