A Raspberry Pi, basic case, SD card and PSU costs about £55 here. Unless
you have terabytes of high-res music a high capacity USB memory stick or
portable hard drive will suffice as storage which will give you a very
efficient server more than capable of running LMS for around £100. 
Install Max 2 play pre-packaged LMS server and wire it to your router to
avoid WiFi problems. Hopefully BPA can get his life back and do
something more fun - like listening to some music!
