Hi Michele

As it is an IBM laptop, you may find that hard drive access is locked into the
BIOS of the machine itself as a security feature. This makes the data
inaccessible if it is hooked up to another machine via an adapter. I work in
digital forensics and this is an issue that we come across regularly,
especially
with older IBM machines.

You may be lucky, it depends very much on how the machine was initially set up.
Just don't assume that the data is trashed if you can't see it when you hook it
up to another machine. There are a number of forensic tools (linux based) that
may help you if you find yourself in this position.

Hi Phil.

If you can check the battery and charger, that would be great.

Once I know where the failure lies I can think about the solution (depending on
prices).
But I believe that I'll have to recover the data from the hard disk and get rid
of the laptop.
Can you recover the data or should I go to one of the places that you have
suggested?

Thanks.
Michele
