Safety Officer on board training from Seagull
(4 February, 2005)The best way to develop a safety culture and to achieve a high standard of safety is to have a Safety Officer onboard the ship. Seagull's Safety Officer training course consist of six Computer Based Training (CBT) modules combined with extracts from the MCA Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen and practical exercises.
The background for this training requirement is found in Code for Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen, consolidated edition 2002 (MCA). Seagull's Safety Officer Onboard Course Package provides the required knowledge, plus theoretical and practical skills to those who may be appointed as Safety Officer. The onboard course package includes: CBT #1, 2, 5, 53, 88 and 123 and a workbook of questions and practical exercises. The participant must complete all of these Seagull CBT modules, achieving at least 95% completion and a minimum test score of 75%.
