I can speak to one.

Cokin.  Plastic resin.  Cheap.  Scratch easily.  Fun toys for silly special
effects, but on a tight budget, lots of filters to choose from.  I have the
system (Series A), Sepia doesn't do diddly.  The T2 Graduated Tobacco is
interesting if you are into that.  A Red 25?, don't use it and don't
remember why I wanted it.  Hood system is not really effective either.  More
rings to add to your collection of step ones too :)
