yeah, that's pretty much what I was planning to do Herb. I have some lenses with 77mm threads, but I was mainly worried about wasting money on a series of 67 or 77mm screw ins grads which could not be easily 'rotated' on the lens. I am sure you can rotate screw ins a bit, but knowing my luck I'd rotate it clean off the front of the lens....

pretty much have to go with one if you want to use a gradient ND filter.
otherwise, you are stuck with the gradient in the middle. i use mine only

and use an adapter ring for all of my lenses that are smaller than 77mm.
