That, of course, is one of the myths about the Creative Cloud system.
The software isn't cloud based - it and your files reside on your own
computer, just as they always have. If you let your subscription lapse,
the software will stop working (although you get a period of grace of up
to 30 days for the monthly subscription) but your files are safe and
accessible by other software.

That much is understood. However, Brian, tell me if I understand it correctly, but the following points are true:

* To work with the software you have to be at least periodically connected to the web so that the software can sync with the cloud in terms of the license.

Yes - you get up to 30 days to continue to use the software if you are offline for an extended period on the monthly plan. Of course, depending on when the software is due to check its licence status, that period of grace could be anything from 1 to 30 days.

* The software is built in such a way as to "convince" me to start storing my work on the cloud. The functionality is there, but it is more "convenient" if some of the things were done the "cloud-way".

No - I work with the software the same way as I always have. I've never felt any need to use Adobe's cloud storage, even though I could still have access to 2GB if I cancelled my subscription.

* Statistics and use patters are collected.

Most probably.

In my case, until Adobe get too greedy - then I'll go back to my CS3 -or
maybe I'll buy a copy of Lightroom, assuming Adobe continues to sell it.

That goes without saying.

As Lightroom is already part of the Creative Cloud system, I sometimes wonder if Adobe might stop selling it outright and only issue updated versions via a Creative Cloud subscription.
