I buy what I do (Pentax) because it suits my needs and fits with both my
skills and the available cash (which is a LOT less that it used to be when
working). The Pentax controls are in my finger's muscle memory and have been
since the 60's. I am not interested in learning a new brand's
idiosyncrasies, we all know they each have their own character.

As to sales figures, IMO they tend to show what is popular. Popular does not
necessarily mean best value or even best quality. If Pentax only has x% of
the market, it is still enough of a market for Ricoh to consider purchasing
the brand. I have to think they are not business dummies given their long
history. So a dead brand, no not exactly, just not mainstream but it never
was.

Nothing really. My brain thought thoughts, my muscles actuated, and the
letters and words magically flowed from my fingertips to the keyboard.

If anything it's a combination of the sales figures for all the brands that
I have access to, combined with my enjoyment of using the gear I'm currently
set with.
