Tom, I rather submit to the court that Pentax brand is not dead. In
fact, I can hardly point out a brand that is truly dead. Well, I mean
among those who were established in the last 30-40 years. Even venerable
Contax (with their revolutionary auto-focus rangefinder) is still
somewhat alive, given that you can buy an adapter and mount your Contax
lenses on modern mirorrless cameras.
Pentax is one of many. Obviously, it is part of human nature to "defend"
one's choice which if taken to the extreme turns to fanboyism or
internet flame wars. Been there, done that. Not interested any more,
thank you very much.
That said, Pentax makes (or specifically in my personal very humble
opinion, used to make) very dandy gear.
