A couple of thoughts... There are people who go the other way too, so it isn't a one-way street out of Pentax Town. For example, this 35 year Nikon user who switched to Pentax with the K-5: http://pentaxworld.com/forum/introduce-yourself/recent-emigrant-from-nikon/ It seems that the expression "the grass is always greener on the other side of the street" was coined for a reason.
Secondly, people throw out figures (like 2% market share) and people take it as gospel. No source was sited. Well, I can't refind my sources either, but when Ricoh bought Pentax I saw a stat that said that Pentax/Ricoh would represent 6.4% of the digital camera market. When you look just at the DSLR segment, when Pentax came out on top of the J.D. Powers and Associates customer satisfaction survey, I saw a pie chart that showed that Pentax had 7% of the DSLR market. That seems to be the area that Ricoh wants to focus the Pentax brand name on going forward. Finally, the Nikon D600 may turn out to be a good value, but I wouldn't buy one until they get their quality control issues ironed out. http://www.petapixel.com/2012/11/21/a-time-lapse-showing-how-quickly-dust-accumulates-on-nikon-d600-sensors/ http://www.petapixel.com/2012/11/27/nikon-d600-speck-issue-may-be-limited-to-first-few-thousand-shots/ According to this 1-star review, the above is caused by lubricant being flung on the sensor by the mirror flip-up action. Then there is this: http://www.petapixel.com/2012/12/06/strange-exposure-differences-between-the-nikon-d600-and-other-dslrs/ http://www.petapixel.com/2012/12/06/some-nikon-d600-dslrs-not-closing-to-the-apertures-theyre-supposed-to/ Which could be simply a lens problem, but haven't seen definitively yet (or how widespread it is) You may recall that the K-5 had a sensor spot problem early on, so these problems definitely don't mean that they can't be ironed out and it become a great model. I'd just rather buy a camera when it no longer has over 15% of owners giving it a 2-star rating or LESS: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D600-FX-Format-Digital-Camera/product-reviews/B0099XGZXA/ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
