I'm on a weather-related forum and a member from Christchurch (Steve Burrows) posted the following brief report...
"Hi, I live and born Christchurch. I was in the middle of the CBD when it hit up on the 7th floor of our building, thrown off my chair and crawled under the table, cant tell you how long the quake shook but I would think 20 sec or more, It was very close to the city and very swallow. Got out of the building about ten minutes after, then witnessed a church collapse in front of me, had been a construction site but Ive heard they wasn't many workers there at the time of the quake. Tried to help out at a building (CTV building, a building about 7 stories now smaller than 1 story, reports say 100 were in there) across the road but there wasn't much we could do, could hear those trapped yelling out, witnessed a couple of bodies near by. Not something any one should witness in there home town. Power is back on here at my parents but no running water, my place as well isnt to bad, was a mess inside broken glass and food everywhere, our chimney fell over so will need to get up on the roof to cover that up. The bulk of those killed so far, have been in the CTV building and PGG, as well as those in cars crushed by falling buildings." -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
