I don't know the LS 1000 but I have the Nikon LS 30 and am well pleased with it so I
think it a wise decision.

I would download and try out Vuescan
 http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html

a scanning program that is an alternative to NikonScan. You may also want to join the
Filmscanner group

http://www.halftone.co.uk/
Click Filmscanners in the left column, and then Mailing Lists in the left column

It is a lively and helpful group, especially if you elect to use Vuescan.

Subject: OT? Nikon LS 1000 Scanner

| I've a chance to get a well-maintained Nikon LS 1000 scanner at a
| reasonable price. I've decided that, for my first scanner, I want
| something inexpensive while I sort out the whole process of scanning and
| get a clear idea of what features I want in a new(er) unit.
|
| Does anyone have experience with the LS 1000? What can you tell me
| about it? It's offered at $300.00, which seems fair, although not the
| world beater bargain.
