I use the LS-1000 on a daily basis here at the paper that I work at. It is a good scanner, slow for my needs; but the scans are very good. I've scanned all manner of films as well... negative, slide... Slides don't look as good as the negative scans, but that is prolly because I do not have it properly set up for slides.
