I've also been thinking of offloading my mail and web serving off my
home server. I could save a lot of moeny if I were willing to give up
my static IP addresses, but I'll probably keep them because it's so
handy being able to get to my home machines when I want a file.
I use dyndns.org to point to my non-static IP address at home. It
works great. I even have a registered domain name that goes through
dyndyns to point to my home machine, so my website is hosted on one of
my home machines.
I used to do this too. A couple of things to deal with though: most
ISPs block port 80 so you have to run your web server on a different
port on you home machine and do some port-forwarding on the DNS layer.
My IP at home changed so often that I had a cron job run every hour to
update the dyndns provider. And running a mail server at home is a PITA.
Currently, because of my recent move and related expenses and time
consumption, I do not have a gallery web site, only a couple of blogs
that I'll throw a picture up now and then.
