My first response was going to be "you should use a polarizer" but then I
saw you did use one....  perhaps it wasn't used at the correct angle as you
said.

In this one the colors are much better.

The washed out effect could also be caused by film choice and/or scanning.

I tend to remember every shot I make, but forget how many of each!  I'll end
up with 5 or 6 exposures of the same subject (perhaps different compositions
or exposures).
