I don't have an anti-MicroSoft bias, I just hate Windows Media. I use OGG Vorbis where possible, which my Victor Classic Plus will play, and my only portable player is my Book Port which doesn't support Windows Media. I use FLAC for storage purposes only, so it doesn't matter if a portable unit can decode it or not, and again, my portable can't play Windows Media anyway. Every experience I've had with Windows Media has resulted in a slightly warbly sound with a rather penetrating high end. These are just my personal experiences, and maybe things have improved since I had said experiences.
