In France I think they sticked on the ATM mode even for VDSL. Is packet transfer mode mandatory for VDSL ?
The firm you need should be into the TD-W8970 source code.
I got my current ADSL2+ firmware from the french version of the source code. Could not find any VDSL2 stuff - maybe one from germany ? (But I fear it will be annex-b only)

try adding -M2 to the vdsl_cpe_control and make the last 2 bytes of the xtu _01_07 i think that will force vdsl.
I'll try that with a VDSL firmware from above.
the spi driver fails on this unit and we are using gpio-spi bit banging :) i will look at the spi irq issue when i am done with vdsl
