I don't know if you copied that from your .muttrc verbatim, but there's
no ending quote in that line. That could Seriously Mess Up Things(tm).
Other than that, I don't know what could cause this. :-( You could
experiment by leaving out the <enter>, after that your macro should
leave you at the pipe-message -prompt with spam.pl typed in, waiting
for you to hit enter. If it doesn't, then you need to further
investigate... If it does, well then you need to try something like
\n instead.
