Basically I have no idea what goes wrong on your computer. In one of the 
older mails from you I found that you used the intel based sound card.
Could you do a "lspci | grep -i audio" so I know that sound card your 
system has.

Have you loaded the modules snd_pcm_oss and snd_mixer_oss ?

How many sound cards do you have ? And from which one doe you want to 
record ? Without the recording command, and the output when you add -v 2.
And lines from your log (/var/log/messages) it is very hard to help.
You should see some entry's when you start recording and it fails.
