I should have included more detail in the summary here, as several
people have been confused by this.

If you are looking at hardware in the P2-500 through P3-800 class, and
the corresponding AMD chips, AMD perform 15 to 30 percent better for
MPEG-2 encoding.

This difference is reduced as you get to faster chips and newer Intel
cores.

The cause of this is that AMD had a considerably faster implementation
of several MMX primitives than the Intel implementation. Over time,
Intel have improved both their raw performance and their MMX
implementation, making this edge smaller.

Don't expect to see this sort of performance difference with anything at
1GHz or faster, though.

If you felt enthusiastic, I would be interested in knowing what sort of
FPS you get for encoding on them, without any sort of noise filtering.

Specifically, I want to know what the minimum clock speed per CPU core I
can hit one hour of PAL DV video encoded per day, running 24x7.

It's clear that whoever set up the font colorings for most programming

in the 60's.
